Culture Factory <CultureF5>
"Thanks to everyone who has helped so far!"

The Culture Factory group was born of the frustration and anger at the lack of facilities for the young people of Newbridge and it was quickly agreed that that something must be done to tackle the chronic shortage of services. We aim to provide a suitable space that will promote the creative collaboration between artists & young people, many of who, are excluded from what is traditionally regarded as the ‘arts sector’.

This space will be open to all young persons regardless of race, religion, sex etc. Ideally, it will be situated in the Oscar Cinema. This old building is up for sale, although other buildings may also fit the bill.

In this building we will provide facilities for: Live music, rehearsals, recording studio,
dance, film making, playing pool, artistic teaching zones, cafe, and meetings.

If you would like to help, get involved or have suggestion about what you would like to see in 'Culture Factory', just get in touch with us!

  • Now's The Time

Culture Factory would like to let everyone know about an art exhibition that concentrates on a number of artists whose lives were cut short prematurely but whose work continues to exert influence upon artistic practice today. Artists featured include Piero Manzoni, Eva Hesse, Bas Jan Ader, Gordon Matta-Clark, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Helen Chadwick, Michel Majerus, Martin Kippenberger and Jason Rhoades.

This exhibition at Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane provides the first opportunity to view work by many of these artists in Ireland. The Gallery’s founder, Hugh Lane, died at the age of 39 but his extraordinary legacy continues to enrich the cultural life of Dublin. In the Gallery’s centenary year Now’s The Time provides an opportunity to assess the achievements of a diverse range of artists who created enduring work that continues to inspire and provoke audiences around the world.

A film programme in February 2009 will include works by Gordon Matta-Clark and Robert Smithson.

    Now's The Time runs from 06th November 2008 to 08th February 2009

  • Nialler9 is 3 Today

The Nialler9 blog is three years old today! As Nialler is a good friend of Culture Factory we wanted to wish him all the best particularly after all his work on our brochure. To mark the special day, Newbridge's own DJ Robbie Coffey was once again asked to put his skills to use for the occasion and he concocted a sweet mix, full of killer grime, dubstep and hip-hop and its a FREE download! Just follow the link below & enjoy!

  • Our New Years Resolution!

    Hey all!

Culture Factory are looking to be even more active next year and are looking for some feedback on our initial ideas. We are looking to represent 40.7% of the population (which is the amount under 24 in the town) in a meaningful and creative way in 2009.

While we will hopefully have some more gigs we want to cater to more if not all forms of arts/entertainment. Some of our ideas are as follows

 Projecting movies/films on to walls outdoors (similar to drive in movies in the US)

 A photo exhibition allowing young people in Newbridge to present what means the most to you in the town & as you see it.

 We would also like to facilitate in someway and art exhibition in the same vein as the photo exhibition.

These are just a few ideas we came up with recently. We would like to know how you would like these ideas developed further and what do you think? Also if you have any suggestions get in touch either on Bebo/Facebook or by email to culture.factory@yahoo.ie

We look forward to hearing from ya! :)
