West Coast Swing Workshops in Bettystown Co. Meath
Hi All,
In September some of the best WCS teachers from the UK and USA will be in Ireland and they will be giving workshops just for us!!
West Coast Swing is an amazing dance to look at, the dancers look as though they are gliding around the dance floor. While it shares some similarities to Lindy and East Coast Swing, it suits more modern music like Hip Hop, r 'n b, rock, blues and pop music in the charts. A great example would be Rock Star from Nickelback.
The organisers of the Shamrock festival have kindly arranged the day of workshop on Sunday September 14th 2008 (11:00am to 6pm) in the Bettystown Court Hotel, Bettystown, Co. Meath with Ronnie Debenedetta USA (of Brandi Tobias and Ronnie Debenedetta) Lee Easton UK, Sydney Smyth UK, Jenny Stephenson UK and many more.
The ticket are very resumable. We will will post more infomation as we get it.

Cheers,

Alan

Dublin June Swing Workshop with the Swing Dance Champions Myles Munroe and Tessa Cunningham
Hey Swing Cats and Kittens!

Here’s all the news and info about the Dublin June Swing Workshop with
the Swing Dance Champions Myles Munroe and Tessa Cunningham who’ve
come over all the way from Vancouver (that’s in Canada doncha know!).

The Basics:

Dates: Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd June

Venue: Bective Rugby Club, Donnybrook.
You can find a map to it here: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl
 =en&geocode=&saddr=53.320877,-6.233969&daddr=&mra=mi&mrsp=0&sz=1
 5&sll=53.322594,-6.232209&sspn=0.011997,0.029182&ie
 =UTF8&z=15

Cost breakdown: €15 per class
€50 for one full day (save €10!)
€90 for the weekend!!! (That’s half a day for free!)
It’s strongly recommended that people wishing to do classes on the
Saturday sign up for the whole day in order to get the most from it.
A pick ‘n’ mix option for this day is only advised for people with previous
West Coast Swing experience.

Levels (VERY IMPORTANT!): A strong grasp of the basics of Lindy Hop and
six-count east-coast swing are essential for this workshop in order for the
teachers to get stuck straight in and not have to explain an 8-count and a
6-count etc. at the beginning.
(What’s West Coast Swing? – check this out!: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3Zxi... )
The ‘Dip It Good’ class on Sunday is aimed at intermediate Lindy dancers
(min 6 –9 months dancing) and the ‘Down ‘n’ Dirty Blues’ class will be
aimed at dancers with prior knowledge of the basics of blues (and who
don’t mind getting close!).

Saturday Night Dance: Jessica will be running the Vertical Rhythm Club on
the Saturday night and Myles will be the guest DJ so you can show off all
your new moves! This is separate from the cost of the workshops.

Now here’s the interesting stuff!!!

Schedule/Classes (please read the above regarding levels):

Saturday 21st (aka West Coast Swing Extravaganza!):
10 – 11am:
West Coast Swing from Scratch.
A singing nun once said “let’s start at the very beginning, it’s a very good
place to start” and with Canada’s number one West Coast Swing (WCS)
couple teaching you, you can be sure to start on the right foot!
(Leads on the left… hee hee).

11.15 – 12.30:
The Squish and The Spring:
Squishing and springing are essential techniques that deliver the unique
look, style and character of WCS. Want to see what I mean?
Check out the videos of Myles and Tessa squishing and springing it at:
http://www.youtube.com/view_play_lis...

12.30 – 2pm : Lunch (get those energy levels up!)

2 – 3.15:
Westies Do It With Whips:
Not as kinky as the title sounds (sorry!) this will be a patterns class on
integrating whips into your WCS. Adds speed, style, and sexiness
(bonus points for bringing an actual whip along!).

3.30 – 4.30:
Make Lemonade:
Step one- grab a lemon… joking!
More of a “when life hands you dance lemons…” class.
This will teach you how to use the unexpected to your advantage
and can explode your pattern repertoire in minutes!

Saturday Night – Vertical Rhythm Club in Bective with guest DJ Myles Munroe!
Get your glad rags on and burn up that dance floor!

Sunday 22nd (aka Let’s Get This Right!):
Note: all Sunday classes will use Lindy Hop as their base dance.
Please see note at beginning for levels.

11am – 12:
Yo! Pitch!
Reinvent your dance posture. Make sure you have the foundations right to
alleviate awkwardness and pain in your dancing and to make speed, agility and styling accessible.
(Did I mention Tessa has a degree in Human Kinetics?!?).

12.15 – 1.15:
Turn For The Better:
Leads: ever turned you partner and seen her wobble?
Follows: ever gotten your feet tangled under you?
This class does exactly what it says on the tin!
Amazing turn technique for both partners

Hey Alan,
How are you? Hope all is well in the new job so far.
Saw your post on the WCS workshops in Bettystown Court Hotel. I live right near that. Would love to take part but wouldn't like to overexert myself as I'll be 25 weeks pregnant then!! However, would love to go along and watch, any idea if that would be possible?
Take care,
Avril
