What do we do?
We teach the stylish form of Modern Jive & West Coast Swing. We run 3 main types of events: see blog for more details
What is Modern Jive?
We teach the stylish form of LeRoc (Modern Jive). The footwork is a simplified version of rock'n'roll steps basically, you're walking in time to the music.
What is West Coast Swing?
West Coast Swing (WCS) is a sophisticated cousin to Lindy Hop and is perhaps the most musically versatile of all the partner dances. Danced to pop, blues, disco, hip hop, rap, jazz, beach, R&B, country, some Latin, and, yes, even swing music, WCS is a rare partner dance that encourages creativity and improvisation in near-equal measure from both partners. Sometimes sexy, sometimes playful, sometimes relaxed, and always fun, WCS is a rapidly evolving dance that oozes style—making it particularly suited as California's State Dance. Influences: Latin styles and Hustle influenced WCS from the '70s. Beginners seeing Hustle and West Coast Swing often cannot distinguish them. Not surprising, since Hustle dancers tend to Hustle-ize WCS
My Swing Teacher Training with Skippy Blair
Skippy Blair: After her years of teaching under Arthur Murray in the '50s, Skippy became extremely influential in the teaching and development of West Coast Swing. The USA's top performers and competitors study with her to this day. Skippy observed that only 1 in 500 dancers has that natural quality that "simply takes your breath away." Why? Her continued reflection and analysis of this topic has led her into the very marrow of dance technique. She has develped teaching methods that have enlightened not only the top few of the dance elite, but even the least talented, on whom most instructors would prefer to simply give up. Info at www.swingworld.com The name "Western Swing" was being used by Arthur Murray for the dance. That Skippy changed it to West Coast Swing is the least of her achievements.
Where can I learn?
Walkinstown Community Centre, Walkinstown Ave, Crumlin, D12
My Swing Teacher Training
I've had WCS teacher training with: Skippy Blair (Founder of GSDTA & Director of the World Swing Dance Council), Mary-Ann Nunez (GSDTA), Jessica Cox (GSDTA), Sarah Grusmark (GSDTA), Sonny Watson & Deanna Mollman

  • West Coast Swing Workshops in Bettystown Co. Meath

    Hi All,
In September some of the best WCS teachers from the UK and USA will be in Ireland and they will be giving workshops just for us!!
West Coast Swing is an amazing dance to look at, the dancers look as though they are gliding around the dance floor. While it shares some similarities to Lindy and East Coast Swing, it suits more modern music like Hip Hop, r 'n b, rock, blues and pop music in the charts. A great example would be Rock Star from Nickelback.
The organisers of the Shamrock festival have kindly arranged the day of workshop on Sunday September 14th 2008 (11:00am to 6pm) in the Bettystown Court Hotel, Bettystown, Co. Meath with Ronnie Debenedetta USA (of Brandi Tobias and Ronnie Debenedetta) Lee Easton UK, Sydney Smyth UK, Jenny Stephenson UK and many more.
The ticket are very resumable. We will will post more infomation as we get it.

    Cheers,

    Alan
