| A sliver of light in the smothering black, The single glimmer of hope. A promise. No more broken dreams, No shattered heart. I hesitate, then reach out. My salvation, a guiding hand. An angel in the midst of my hell, A smile, the first, warming my soul. Strange compassion from one who gave pain, A comforting paradox. I reach the pure gold seam, am bathed in its glow. Until the hand draws back. Pain. I fall again. The light disappears. No more hope, same bitter disappointment. Another broken dream. Heart cracked where it never really healed.
