| Meeting The Wolf Man | |||
| Paige saw Lance bow and leave from the corner of her eye. Her attention was directed fully on the letter in front of her. A dark line appeared between her eyebrows as Paige finished reading the letter. Who was “The Survivor”? Paige thought to herself. Before Paige could think any more about the letter a loud thumping occurred outside before the door slammed open with a deafening crash. A man appeared in the doorway, he was so tall he had to duck his head to get into the room. His huge body was covered with thick black fur and his head had striking similarities to a wolf. A thick gold hoop hung from one of the nostrils on his muzzle and his eyes were a deep shade of red. “Is this, I ask myself, Miss Paige Keku my soon-to-be bride?” The wolf-man asked, his voice sounding like gravel had been caught in his throat. “Only if you are His Majesty King Vidian” Paige replied. She suddenly felt a strange sensation as she saw his red eyes flickering over her. “That I am” The wolf-man replied. He stepped toward Paige and slight tremors rocked the floor and her boots as he moved. “I welcome you to my kingdom” King Vidian said grasping Paige’s hand between his own paw’s and pressed it to his rough lips “Come, we must dine with the high courts and tell all of Sacrimagi about our unison-to-be” King Vidian hooked one clawed hand around Paige’s own and led her out of her room and down the staircase toward a huge eating hall were a table covered of food took up most of the room, surrounded by thousands of chairs. Candles and floating balls of light illuminated the room with a soft glow. At the northern end of the table a large group of were-men sat talking among themselves, each resembling Kind Vidian but completely different. “Gentlemen I introduce you to my bride-to-be Princess Paige Keku” King Vidian said leading Paige over to the head of the table and sitting her down beside him in a magnificent throne. “It’s a pleasure to meet you” the entire group said, one after the other. The rest of the night passed as a blur to Paige, broken only when a strange man appeared beside him when all the mead had been drunk. His features were unusually sharp and his skin was drained of all colours. “Excuse me” King Vidian murmured before retiring to a room just off the eating hall. Nervously Paige looked around, checking to see if there was anyone still awake. To her surprise all of the were-men were fast asleep, their fangs glistening in the candle-light as they snored. Paige extracted herself from the table and silently crept toward the room where the strange looking man and King Vidian had entered. Stopping outside the door Paige muttered a spell of hearing and closed her eyes as her hearing increased vastly. She could hear everything that was happening in the castle and outside. She could hear the kitchen hand drop a plate and the crash was deafening to Paige, somewhere in the Knight’s Quarters a squire was whispering frantically to himself about losing his master’s sword. Paige quickly blocked these unimportant issues out and focused on the room in front of her. “You have made a fine choice with your new bride” A slimy voice was saying. “She is rather too confident for me” That was King Vidian. “What about the matter of the treaty?” The slimy voice asked. “I will not accept because the Magikeku are a race of war-haters and they would be pathetic allies to me” King Vidian said harshly and Paige made out the sound of him spitting on the tile floor. “What about the girl?” Slime voice asked “She is merely a hostage in my war campaign and nothing else” King Vidian replied “You have this all planned out well Vidian” Slime voice said proudly. At that moment Paige withdrew from the conversation and wiped away the tears that had pricked in her eyes. She quickly hurried back to the table and took out the letter from a pocket inside her dress. | |||
