| June 28th, 3859 A.E After Lord Valdrek had taken his leave, David headed down to the bathing quarters, planning on having a very long soak. It did not take his weary muscles long to relax within the heated water, as he rested his head against the side of the pool. It was here that he reminisced once more, but of times not so happy… At his feet was the half dug out remains of his betrotheds grave. The twitch of hatred stabbed at his undead heart at the thought of someone grave robbing his precious scarlet. It had taken almost 5 hours to dig out her crushed body from under the mountain of rock. At the beginning, David had been on his knees, pulling at the rock with his bare hands. If it hadn’t been for Lord Valdrek, who forcefully dragged his son away and back to his chamber, the purple haired Prince probably wouldn’t have stopped until his hands were cut to ribbons. David crouched down and pulled up a hand full of dirt. Rubbing the fingers of his right hand together against his thumb, the dirt fell back to the floor through his hand. He then rested his right forearm against his thigh, allowing his soiled hand to hand limply from his wrist. Rubbing his left hands forefinger and thumb against his bottom chin, he slowly stood. The silent footsteps of a visitor echoed in his ears, as he kicked around the dirt a little more, before addressing his companion. “Nice of you to join me, Karmel…” David turned his head to look besides at Karmel. “It has been a while my Prince.” Karmel gave a low bow, at the waist. David then noticed a smear of dirt against the cave wall on the far side, behind of which Karmel stood. His gaze quickly fell to the floor, as he saw the random smears continue across the hard dirt surface, towards him, and stop at the open ground of the grave. Pushing past Karmel, David placed both hands against the smear and ran his hand against the dirt, which clung loosely to the cave wall. Looking either side of the smear, he found another but a few feet away to the right of him. Another smear was located in the corner of the cavern, near the floor. Once again, David got down onto his knees and found the dirt to be less hardened than the rest of the cave floor. He ran his hands through it, looking for where it began to get hard again, but it didn’t. The loose dirt came away easily, slowly revealing a tunnel that went under the wall and out into the caves. “Karmel!” David Shouted, before standing and pointing towards the tunnel. “Where does this lead?” Karmel had run over upon his name being shouted and look down into the tunnel. “It seems to run into the catacombs, sire.” He replied, before standing and standing to attention. “See to it that the catacombs and forest at all entrances and exits are thoroughly searched…who ever did this will still be close by…” David ordered, while running his hand over the dirt smear on the cave wall that had lead him to the discovery of the tunnel. He then also snapped to attention “No Vampire is to rest until her body is found, is that understood?” Karmel saluted at the barked orders before taking off to inform the rest of the troops. At this moment, David was glad that his father’s troops were able to do something useful while they planned the wars next move. The earthquake had a motive. The werewolves had known of Joe’s presence from the start, and so had triggered the quake as a diversion, in order to capture him. It was now that David realised the true meaning of his father’s words but a week ago. “I got attached father…and now I am paying the price…I shall see that Scarlet’s death is paid for in Werewolf Blood, and that her body snatcher is put to justice.” David muttered to himself, before taking off back towards his chamber, in need of rest. David slowly opened his eyes, stirring from his memories once more. His guards had followed his orders to the letter, but after over 2 weeks of searching every nook and cranny of the catacombs, behind every leaf and blade of grass in the forest, there had still been no sign of Scarlet, or her body snatcher. Lord Valdrek had decided that enough was enough and cancelled off the search, using the war as an excuse, and scolded David for using the imperial guard for personal use. David’s hand unconsciously rubbed against his ribs where the bruises were still slowly healing. A slam of the door on the upper level roused him further. The sound of boots tapping against the stone steps that ran from the upper level to the bathing chamber, calling out David’s name, made the Prince snap to attention. David quickly hauled himself out of the water and grabbed a towel. By the time the door had swung open, David had only just managed to cover himself. Lord Valdrek gave David a cold look before taking a few steps closer. Alarm bells rung in David’s mind as his backed up against the chamber wall, tightening the towel around his waist. This action did not go unnoticed by Lord Valdrek and he took yet another step forward, so that David’s only escape route was to either jump into the bathing pool, or go through him. David lowered his gaze respectfully, not wanting any trouble. Lord Valdrek tilted his head to one side, not one hair in his long silver mane moved. “I would like a word with you…” Valdrek gave David a once over glance “Upstairs and dressed please.” David nodded slowly and listened to his father’s footsteps retreat back to the stair well. “And would you mind making an effort? We have guests…” and with that Lord Valdrek ascended the stairs and returned to the upper level. David let out a small sigh, before dropping the towel back where he’d picked it up from and got back into the water again. If they had guests, he might as well actually have a proper bath while he was down here. It did not take long for David to rub soap through his hair and over his body, before rinsing off and climbing back out again. The towel, which he had used before, would suffice for rubbing down his hair, but a clean towel would be needed to get his body dried. The clothes he had brought down with him consisted of his nightclothes, which went straight into the adjoining room along with the wet towels, a pair of leather pants, a fresh shirt and black boots. David dressed quickly; tucking his shirt into the tight leather pants in order to look more presentable and pulled at the lacing that ran across the V shaped neckline of the crisp white shirt. Taking a deep breath, the Prince made his way up the stone staircase and to the upper levels. All the while wondering, who the hell would visit at this time of day? The upper levels of the city were deserted as David made his way towards the Great Hall. If his father had any visitors, they would mostly be gathering there. It was only when he had reached the doors that he noticed they were not fully shut. Peeking in through the thin gap, David saw that his father’s visitor was hooded and cloaked. Suspicions roused in his mind, as he smoothed his shirt and corrected his posture. With a deep intake of breath, David knocked on the door… The door creaked open under the force of David’s knock, opening his view of the room further. Lord Valdrek was stood in front of his cloaked guest, but an eerie scent in the air made David uneasy. Lord Valdrek beckoned David to enter further, who had stopped after closing the door behind him, stepping between his guest and his son. “David, I would like you to meet our guest…Lord Lucullus…” At that, the guest pulled back his cloaks hood, revealing the Dark haired Lord of Fang. David’s eyebrows knitted together in hatred, upon seeing the Werewolf Lord. He then glared at his father, wanting an explanation. “What the hell is he doing here? You dare let him live after what he has done?” Lord Valdrek said nothing, simply smacking him round the back of the head. David cursed under his breath, realising his mistake. Rolling his eyes in defiance, David gave a slight bow at the waist, and lied through his teeth. “It is an honour.” Lord Valdrek smirked at his son’s distain, happy to see some discipline, before any damage was done. “Lord Lucullus is here for a little chat. It seems that he did not realise the influence your little wolf friend would have on his son…Do you know anything about this?” Lord Valdrek asked David, who simply kept his head lowered and shook it from side to side silently. “Very well then…you are free to go.” Giving David a soft pat on the shoulder, David turned and took his leave out of the room. Once out of earshot, David punched the nearest wall several times before sinking down to the floor with the back rested against it. His forearms were resting on his knees, while his head was lowered to look at the ground between his legs. He was breathing hard, anger and hate burning through his blood. The fact that his own father had let the enemy into the city made the hatred in his blood burn hotter. Resting a slightly bruised hand against his forehead, David attempted to suppress his anger, but had no such luck. Quickly standing, David took off towards the armoury, hoping that Karmel was still within the city. He was in need of a good spar…or three. The afternoon so far had been pretty peaceful. After the heart-felt events that occurred during the first few hours of daylight, Joe and Dai had returned to the blissful realm of sleep. However, not only had none of the servants come looking for Dai, due to his rooms being in a shape of utter disrepair, but also no one had even called them for breakfast OR lunch. It seemed that while Lucullus was away, most of Fang was taking advantage. Joe was still lounging around in bed at 1.30pm. The sound of the water running in the shower did not stir him. Not even when Dai walked quietly through the room, one towel wrapped around his waist, another over his head and around his neck as he dried his hair gently, did he wake. Dai approached the large chest of draws across from the bed. Pulling out a shirt, Dai pulled it on and only fastened the middle three buttons. He then moved on to drying his hair. A small grunt came into earshot as he turned around to face Joe, who was still sleeping. The covers where tangled around his tan legs, pale scars decorating their length. His right hand was draped lazily across his chest, while his left lay on the pillow besides his head. Brunet hair was spread out over the area around Joe’s head on the pillow. The early afternoon sun that shone through the half draped curtains cast its rays upon the shiny strands. Dai dropped the towel into the basket next to the draws and crawled up onto the bed to sit by his lover. The softness of Joe’s hair threading through his fingers as he stroked it softly. “Joe…” He whispered, lying down a little more on the bed in order to get better access. “Joe…you can’t sleep the entire day away…” This received another soft grunt, as the brunet nuzzled the top of his head against Dai’s warm hand. The blond smiled softly to himself and leant in to kiss Joe on the cheek. “Wakey wakey, sleepy head…if you get up now, I’ll go an get you something good to eat.” He emphasised his point by nuzzling his nose into Joe’s cheek, which seemed to stir the brunet further. Joe’s eyes began to flutter open, as he rubbed them sleepily, before gazing up at Dai lovingly. “Good morning…” Joe murmured, while running a hand through his hair to find Dai’s and enlacing their fingers together. This earned a smile off Dai, who leant in closer to Joe, giggling softly to himself. “Afternoon…” he corrected and kissed him softly. When he pulled away, Joe’s smile got a little bigger and pulled Dai closer again so that the blonds’ head was resting against his chest. Whilst keeping a soft grip on Dai’s hand in his left, Joe ran his right through Dai’s slightly damp hair, petting him. Dai let out a soft moan, and snuggled closer to Joe, letting him know that he appreciated it. Joe’s gaze moved over his lovers face and down to his chest, which was peaking out from under the partly open shirt. It was only when his gaze went lower to view a milky white thigh poking out from under the shirt hem that he smirked. Letting go of Dai’s hand, Joe moved his left down onto Dai’s thigh and ran his fingers up and down it. Moving his head a little closer to Dai’s ear, while his right moved to Dai’s other ear and scratched behind it, he whispered hotly into it: “A little early in the day for this attire isn’t it?” Dai moaned softly at this and slowly sat up to stretch, his arms moving above his head, knocking away Joe’s hands in the process. “Well considering you slept through most of it…” He yawned “…not really.” He turned back to Joe, leaning against his chest, and nuzzled his neck playfully. Joe smiled at the affection and kissed his cheek. “Not that I’m complaining or anything, but didn’t you say something about food?” This earned a small smile off Dai, who draped his arms over Joe’s shoulders and faced him. “Why? I am not good enough for you?” Dai pouted playfully, only to receive a soft kiss against his pouted lips. “Yes…but I can’t eat you…” Joe stopped for a moment, only just realising what he had actually said as they both blushed deeply. Joe cleared his throat slightly, keeping this thoughts to himself. “How about we go for a picnic?” he leaned closer and kissed up Dai’s neck softly. “Just you…” he kissed along Dai’s jaw. “And me…” he kissed across Dai’s cheek. “…And a picnic basket” finally kissing him on the lips, once. Dai blushed deeper at all the attention and nodded softly in affirmation. Joe smiled and patted Dai’s waist in an attempt to get him off him, so that he could stand. Dai crawled off the bed, searching through Joe’s draws again for a pair of pants he could borrow, as he was already in one of Joe’s shirts. Joe had already noticed this and came up behind the blond, wrapping his arms around his waist. One hand sneaked under the hem to caress Dai’s abdomen. “I like this look…perhaps you should keep my shirt so you can delight me with this sight more often…” Joe kissed down Dai’s neck again before his kisses escaped into the collar of the shirt, as it began to slide off Dai's shoulder. A shiver of anticipation ran down Dai’s spine, knowing full well that Joe could feel it also. “Maybe I will…” He turned his head to the side slightly and took Joes lips in a soft loving kiss. | |||
