Chapter 10 - A Traitor Falls

Matt was waiting outside for Stealth. Neither him nor Hailey were speaking, they were just listening to the sounds from inside the house, and even those were keeping quiet. Matt was thinking back to the train, when Hailey had told him about her parents. He thought how much trust it took for her to tell that to someone she’d only known for a week. Matt had never had a real friend before. He thought to himself that if anyone fit the criteria for a friend it was her.

“Ask her” Whispered Kaman in his ear.

“Hailey?” Matt said nervously. “Do you want t-” He was cut off by a loud crash of metal, Matt stopped and instinctively jumped through the window to aid Stealth. He realised he didn’t know where to look so he ran into what looked like a living room. That was when he heard Stealth shout him and Hailey. He followed Stealth’s voice and heard him scream in pain. When he found Stealth his stomach churned because there was a once fully healthy man lying at the bottom of the stairs, unconscious but still breathing, with his arm detached and sitting next to him. His anisma was standing by his arm, futily trying to hold in the constantly draining blood. Sorrow was standing over him, ready to finish the job. Matt shouted in an attempt to get Sorrow’s attention.

Sorrow span around and looked at Matt, grinning cheekily.

“Just look at the power of your warriors compared to that of Master Rahn! Join us Matthew Prince, and the world shall belong to Rahn!”

“I’ll never serve Rahn” Matt retaliated

“Why Matthew? Because someone told you he’s a little bit mean? Master Rahn can give you the power you desire Matthew.”

“I don’t want power, I want the man who killed my Father brought to justice”

“The father who abused you and neglected you? Yes Matthew, Rahn knows about you. Rahn knows about all of you and one by one, He’ll pick you off. Join us and be spared a cruel fate”

“No!” Shouted Matt once more, unable to concentrate on the conversation anymore. He was filled with anger for this person who was insulting the man who had died saving him. He pulled his swords from the sheaths at his waist and ran fast, towards Sorrow. He had both swords facing upwards, an offensive pose. He jumped and brought both swords down on top of Sorrow, who brought his own sword up to block them successfully. He unleashed a frenzy of strikes, all aimed at key parts on Sorrow’s body and Sorrow skilfully blocked each one, moving the sword gracefully between blocks without so much as a recovering breath while doing so.

Matt heard footsteps from behind and in seconds Hailey was beside him, she swung her sword upwards into the centre of Sorrow’s armour, producing no results. Soyanamon was at her side and he shouted out to tell her to attack the arms and the neck, where there were gaps in Sorrow’s armour. Hailey aimed to hit his left arm and Matt the right, but Sorrow simply transferred the sword from both hands into his right hand, moving both hands out of the line of the two swords. Sorrow held the sword in both hands again and hit Hailey hard in the chest with the handle of the sword, bringing the blade back into where Matt was. Matt used both his swords to stop Sorrow’s hitting him, but Hailey was thrown backwards and into the ground.

She went to get up and fight but Kaman shouted, telling her to check on Stealth. Matt threw the sword in his left hand into the air and caught it on the way back down, now he had one sword facing up and one down.

He lifted his back sword upwards in a swiping motion and used the other sword to stab directly towards the face, Sorrow was smarter than that trick though and used his sword to block his face, knowing his armour would protect his chest. Sorrow swung his sword into Matt’s side, briefly knocking the wind out of him. Sorrow saw his chance and kicked Matt square in the chest, causing him to fall directly to the ground.

“So these are the great and powerful Warriors, gifted with an anisma and sent to eliminate Master Rahn.” Sorrow spat. “Pathetic”

Sorrow raised his sword and dropped it towards Matt’s neck. Matt acted fast, Shunting his sword under Sorrow’s armour as he stood over Matt. Sorrow’s sword stopped an Inch over Matt’s neck. Something changed in Sorrow, just moments before his death and he used what was left of his strength to throw the sword to the ground. He was still over Matt, with Matt’s sword impaled in his back, It had gone under the amour into his back and came out of his chest on the other side, piercing several major organs. He managed a few strained wheezing words before he stopped breathing completely

“Matt… my sword… is… Eve… your’s in Rahn’s… armoury. Good luck… Adam” His last words were the final attempts of a guilty soul. Matt watched the colour drain from his eyes and felt the body go limp on his sword. Sorrow was dead. Matt went over to Stealth and radioed back to the base.
