Memories and Promises

June 27th, 3859, Fang A.E

It was a dismal night when the moon had finally turned full. Joe had already realised from his previous transformations in Fang, that they were different from anywhere else on Gorneth. As the night wore on, within his candle lit chambers, Joe had a very slow reaction to the moons effects, much like the month before. His nails grew longer, turning into claws. Canines sharpened. A tail had sprouted the previous night and gone fluffier as the day had come and gone. He looked much like Dai had done the week before; apart from Joe had not grown out of his instinct to catch his own tail.

At the opposite end of the long hallway, Dai was having a far worse experience…His hair had grow wild and darkened over the past week. His eyes jet black with but a thin green iris within its centre. The fur on his tail was thicker and also darker, the same colour as his hair. His pale skin was now tinted a darker shade, making him look evenly tanned instead of his normal milky white sheen. His current stage of transformation was normal compared to the previous full moons, but when a spark of pain jabbed through his chest, some how he knew that tonight was going to be different…

A loud, ear splitting scream penetrated through the walls of Fang as Dai felt himself be ripped apart from the inside. He lay tangled in his now ripped bed sheets, a cold sweat forming on his skin. Already his legs had started to be broken down and regenerate into lengthened, wolf-like limbs. He felt as if his blood was boiling away at his body. Muscles expanded and became heavily toned. Dai gripped tightly to his bed, digging his claws through the sheets and into the mattress.

His abused body curled and arched through the pain, as another scream pierced the darkness within the room. His legs shook traumatically against the footboard of the bed, before Dai pulled one of his legs up and kicked out at the oak panel, putting his newly formed foot through it. The bottom of the bed shook before snapping, causing the bed to tilt downwards towards the floor at the end of the bed. The loud crack is made reverberated off the walls and through the floor into the bedroom below.

At this moment, clicking and scratching sounds came from the door, as it was unlocked, and Lucullus burst into the room. The two oak doors banged loudly against the wall behind them, as he strode over to Dai and pulled out a small vile. Dai’s screams could now be heard clearly down the entire corridor of the 3rd floor, as werewolves stuck their heads out of the doors to their chambers, to see what the racket was all about. Joe was one of the few who dared to investigate further by walking up the corridor, to take a closer look. He joined Michael and Andrew at Dai’s door, watching with pained eyes at his lover’s struggles. Michael noticed Joe’s inner turmoil and laid a comforting hand on his shoulder, squeezing gently in sympathy.

Lucullus had Dai held by his hair, in order to tilt his head back and tipped the contents of the vile down his throat. He made a soft shushing noise and stroked Dai's hair gently once the teen had swallowed and started to calm down. Out of the corner of his eye, Dai could see Joe and slowly reached out for him. Lucullus followed the motion of Dai’s hand and scowled slightly when his eyes were cast upon the half dressed, half-transformed teen at his son’s door. A clammy hand gripped at his robes, bringing the Elder's attention back to Dai, as the former blonde teen looking up pleadingly at him. Sighing, Lucullus squeezed Dai’s hand reassuringly before removing it from his robes and back down onto the bed.

Without a second glance, Lucullus turned and pulled both doors shut behind him, as he exited Dai’s chambers. Andrew and Michael moved away from the door, as he did so, standing to attention in front of the Elder. Joe remained lent against the wall besides the doorframe, head lowered sorrowfully. He did not raise his head when Lucullus stood before him, but instead spoke softly to him, his gaze remaining cast to the floor.

“What did you do…?” Lucullus sighed and unfolded his clawed hands out of the sleeves of his robes.

“I did what I had to…” he replied in a softened voice. This caused Joe to raise his head in alarm, having never heard anything but cold words from the elder. Lucullus laid a clawed hand on Joe’s shoulder. “Dai is different…as you already know…he does not transform as little as we d-“

“It’s because of that experiment, isn’t it?” Joe interrupted, feeling his anger rising. Lucullus sighed as a reply, before speaking again.

“He was the only one who had the right combat-“

“Is that all he is to you? An ingredient? You don’t give a shit about him do you?” Joe shouted, thoroughly angered.

Lucullus attempted to remain calm.

“It was his choice to go through with it…he wanted to do it. You don’t understand how important it meant to him…” Lucullus withdrew his gaze from Joe and turned to speak to Michael and Andrew.

“Return to your rooms…there is no need to worry about the Prince.” He received two bows before the two males left the Elder and Joe in the corridor outside of Dai’s rooms. Returning his gaze back to Joe, he spoke softly once more. “Give him 5 minutes…then take him down to your rooms…I shall see to that you are not disturbed.”

“But you said-“

“I know what I said. But Dai needs you this night, and I am willing to give him at least that.” With a swish of heavy robes, Lucullus evacuated the corridor and returned to his own chambers. It seemed that Joe would be able to see his lover, after all.

After sitting outside Dai’s doors for a good 4 minutes, Joe was starting to fidget. He decided that he’d given Dai enough time and stood up. At first, he knocked gently on the oak door. Nothing. He knocked again. Still nothing. Opening the door a crack, Joe peered into Dai’s chambers and checked out the damage.

The bed was smashed up, sheets clawed and shredded. The curtains that hung around the bed and across the window shared the same fate. Within it all lay Dai, curled up in a ball, half-naked and asleep. Joe walked further into the room and pushed back the torn and tattered curtains. Dai’s arms were wrapped around his head, claws having almost completely retracted back to normal nails. His legs were bent and twisted around each other, skin paling slowly. His sweaty, tangled hair also had its honey sheen back, rather than the dark mass it had become up to that night.

Joe manoeuvred Dai into a more comfortable position, before picking him up bridal style and making sure he was safely tucked into his arms. From there, he carried Dai out into the corridor, kicking the doors closed behind him and took off down to his own chambers. Once safely inside, Joe placed Dai down on his own bed and tucked him in. Looking down at his lover, Joe brushed a few strands of honey coloured hair out of Dai’s face, before running a finger down Dai’s now smooth cheek. Smiling softly to himself, he crawled into bed next to Dai and pulled the blonde into his arms. Sleep soon followed after kissing the blonde softly on the cheek.

Within the Quoja Cave Systems the storm above had only made itself known to the few unfortunate vampires that felt a light draft coming from the catacombs. Their homes were filled with small puddles of standing water where the storm water had made its way through the fault lines within the rock between the caves and the surface. None of these factors went noticed by David, however. He was lounging around in his rooms, a waiting a visit from his father. His nightmares had eased slightly, as his mind because more stable during the recovery process from the shock and tumour of loosing Scarlet.

A soft sign passed the princes lips upon thinking of her. He rolled onto his side, from where he was cocooned within the satin sheets, and hugged the nearest pillow. Never had he slept within the whole bed, always keeping to his own side, just in case Scarlet ever returned to reclaim what was hers within their rooms. His eyes were heavy with prolonged grief; David watched the pillow absently, while a long pale finger traced invisible patterns along its cover.

His thoughts once more lingered on that of the slim, yet curvy, brunette Vampiress whom still had a tight hold over his heart, but had also slipped through his own grasp, literally. David snuggled his face deeper in to the pillow, inhaling deeply the sweet scent of his lover which clinged to the fabric. The thought of her being his former lover flashed through his mind like a lightening bolt, and so yet another sigh passed his lips.

The cool satin did nothing for his cold, lifeless skin, as he rubbed one of his cheeks against it thoughtfully. 'Almost as soft as her...' David mussed to himself, his hands clutching to the pillow tightly. Closing his eyes, removing all sight of his room from his mind, David's thoughts retreated to a private corner within his consciousness. Within he kept the remains of long felt feelings from the moments he had with Scarlet.

He recalled the first time he'd laid eyes on her living, breathing flesh. The beauty radiating from her that night had sent his blood afire in his cold veins - much like it did whenever he had been with her or thought of her. Although Vampires do not have a pulse, it is said that their minds play tricks on them, causing them into thinking and feeling the stir of love, and desire, within them. David could still remember clearly the feeling of his rekindled heart, as he swore he felt his heart slam into his ribs faster and harder with every beat whenever he saw her. It was from that moment that David had silently sentenced Scarlet to be his for the rest of eternity.

December 31st, 1894, The Vampire's Alternate Universe

It was New Years Eve and Lord Valdrek was hosting an annual ball with his wife, Lady Micha. All the nobility and families of high society attended on the last evening of each year. It was here that David, having finally come of age to find a suitable maiden, wondered amongst his father’s guests within the crowded ballroom. Lord Valdrek gloated to a random aristocratic couple, while Lady Micha was also entertaining, with her back turned away from him. David took this as a chance to slip deeper into the mass and examine the young beauties that congregated within.

After several dances with a different variety of gentlemen’s daughters, he slipped out of the main ballroom and into the entrance hall, where a group of young girls had retreated from the busy atmosphere. It was when his back was turned away from the main staircase that his ears picked up a soft giggle. It echoed its way through his mind and sent a tremble down his spine. Discretely, he turned and greeted some new arrivals, all the while sending quick glances over to the group of girls.

There was one in particular who caught his eye. A brunette, with a slim, yet curvy figure. Her eyes met his for a brief moment, just as she let out another giggle while breaking contact. His eyes widen for a split second as it sent his senses wild once more. She attracted his attention once more as she excused herself from her companions, before making her way up the main staircase to the balcony located just a few feet off of it.

David politely excused himself and cautiously made his way up the staircase without drawing much attention to himself. Once he reached the top, his gaze rested upon her arched frame. The girl was stood against the stone railing of the balcony, facing out into the gardens and unaware of David’s presence until he was but a few feet away from her and cleared his throat. David could hear her heartbeat in his ears, as it quickened in shock. She was now facing him, hips against the railing, hand over her heart and a faint blush covering her cheekbones.

In the moonlight the brown of her hair turned into more of a mahogany, highlighted with flicks of auburn; skin as smooth and flawless as porcelain, glowed; eyes contrasting between the deepest and brightest of greens; Lips full and as red as the reddest rose. Everything about her excited him to no end. It was only when her blush deepened that David realised her was staring at her. Clearing his throat again, he apologised and moved to stand besides her, looking out towards the trees, which lined the edge of his fathers estate. She to turned; looking back into the gardens, however both felt the awkward silence that swallows the night air around them. Some minutes later, David was the first to shatter the silence.

"What’s your name...?" He turned to gaze at her some more, while waiting for an answer, while watching a shiver travel down her spine once his words reached her ears. She turned slowly, head slightly downcast, and spoke softly.

"Scarlet...my lord...Scarlet Flynn" This earned a smirk from David, as he moved closer and tipped her chin up with his thumb, catching her gaze with his own.

"David...call me David..." His voice was almost as soft as hers, only hinted with desire. The thumb on her chin moved ever so slightly up to her bottom lip and stroked it with a feather like touch. The blush across her cheeks returned as her lips parted ever so slightly. Once again her heartbeat sounded in his ears, her warm breath against the pad of his thumb, the glint of passion in her half closed eyes. He gave himself an inner smirk as she was quickly falling under his spell. He had this affect on most women, but she was far more responsive then the others ever had been.

Slowly, he wraps an arm around her waist and gently pulls her closer. Scarlet's eyes are not fully closed and still has not noticed that there is no warmth emitting from his skin, whereas David can feel the warmth of her own body against his. Taking his time, David softly rubs his nose against Scarlet's; their lips are but a hair’s width apart. Leaning in closer, his lips ghosted over hers, before claiming them in a soft, yet passionate kiss.

Over the course of the kiss, David slowly kissed his way down Scarlet's neck. She tilted her head back further, giving him more access, already heavily captivated. David took this as his chance, and without faltering, grazed his teeth against her neck before sinking them into her soft, succulent flesh.

June 27th, 3859, Quoja

The morning after that night, when Scarlet had awoken in David's bedchamber, she had been turned. David could still remember how she was so obedient, always wanting to please him in whatever way she could. Lord Valdrek had disapproved of David's choice at first, but Scarlet soon grew on him. It was shortly after, that the town’s people discovered the families true colours. A wave of sadness washed over David from where he lay in bed upon remembering that night.

There was an outbreak just after midnight, only 2 weeks after Scarlet had been turned. Some of the town’s people had grouped together and broke into the estate, throwing burning torches through several windows of the manor before riding off back towards town. The blaze had engulfed the entire building not long after the fires had started. David and Scarlet were first to awake, and ran down the corridor to Valdrek and Micha's chambers, only to find it empty. One of the fires had started in the room and the bed was already in an inferno. David could still hear his mother’s screams in his ears. The sadness was soon replaced by relief he felt back then, when his father had placed a hand on his shoulder and pulled both David and Scarlet out of the burning house.

A knock at the door pulled him out of his thoughts and he called them to enter. Lord Valdrek came into the room, closing the door behind him before suddenly receiving an arm full of David. Valdrek stood, still in shock, for a few moments before wrapping his arms around David.

"What's with you all of a sudden...? This isn't like you at all..." He rested his cheek on the top of David's head, waiting for an answer. Instead, David snuggled deeper into his father's embraced and simply said:

"I love you...father..."

June 28th, 3859, Fang A.E

As the morning sunrise peaked up over the mountains, Fang’s night of violent storms had relinquished their hold on the domicile. Dai stirred in a soft, warm bed just as the sunlight began to stream through the gap in the heavy velvet curtains. He fought to keep unconsciousness as the beams of light continued to flicker across his sleep-starved face. He did not recall going to bed, nor did the coverlet’s scent resemble anything to his own. However, he found it very pleasant and snuggled closer into the satin sheets. After breathing in the covers aroma deeply, something suddenly clicked in his mind. This mental flash struck more frequently when he discovered the tanned arms wrapped around his waist and the warm body pressed up against his. His eyes widened in shock at this realisation, and shot open even further as his captor pulled him closer and snuggled into his hair at the back of his neck.

Only when he heard the murmured sound of his name in a familiar, did he start to relax, before returning back into shock. Pulling up the top end of the sheets, he was relieved to find his trousers still clad around his lower half. Another sigh of relief was expelled, before he felt that he had to wake up Joe. Slowly, he moved to roll onto his back and then his other side, while still encircled by Joe’s arms. Once achieving this, he began to attempt waking up Joe.

At first he simply tried whispering his name. No such luck. Saying it a little louder did not seem to do much difference. His second attempt consisted of a light shake of the shoulder, resulting in a slightly harder one. Still nothing. After feeling that he’d done what he could without removing Joe’s warm arms from his waist, he tried something that he hoped would work.

Slowly, Dai moved his head closer to Joe’s on the pillow. He titled his head to one side to get a better look at his lover’s face, before letting out a small sigh to himself. Though men are not usually visualised as beautiful, Dai seemed to be unable to describe the man before him as much else. The soft morning light glinting off the silky, brown strands made him look far too feminine for him to be claimed as handsome. Dai slowly lifted a hand to gently drag it over the top layer of hair, amazed at its smoothness at such a time in the morning. His own hair was slightly tangled and as he recalled the events of the night before Lucullus had came into his chambers. He wasn’t surprised if tangles weren’t the only thing in there.

The hand then moved downwards, running his left index finger down Joe’s cheek before the other fingers joined it as they ran down the brunettes neck. Their journey ended within the silky locks at the back of Joe’s head, where Dai had cupped the base of his lover’s skull. Continuing on his way, Dai moved his face in ever so closer, rubbing his nose against the tip of Joe’s before gently moving it up and down against the others. The last few centimetres were made up by Dai’s lips, which moved closer to Joe’s ever so slowly. When they were but a millimetre apart, Dai closed the gap completely and sealed their lips in a soft and loving kiss.

Upper lip, bottom lip, over and over again, the same old dance, which seemed to intensify the feeling in his chest the longer is carried on. It was when the lips beneath his own began to move of their own accord, did Dai relinquish is control over the kiss. As soon as his guard was down, Joe’s lips took on a mind of their own, pressing slightly harder against Dai’s lips as the kiss became more passionate. A soft moan left the blondes lips as he allowed himself to be completely overpowered, the brunette already having rolled him onto his back and was now half lying on top of him. The kiss seemed to last for a lifetime, until Joe finally broke the sizzling contact, causing Dai to release the hold he had on the back of Joe’s head and relaxed back into the bed sheets, breathing hard.

Slowly, Joe began to kiss down Dai’s neck, before returning back up to his jaw. A low moan emitted from Dai’s throat as he arched his back, tilting his head back to give the brunette more room. Joe smirked against Dai’s skin at this before pulling back and resting his forehead against Dai’s.

“You know…that’s probably the best ‘Good morning’ I’ve ever had…” he smiled softly down at Dai, and propped himself up on his elbows as Dai’s arms returned around his neck.

“Mmm, well I guess I’m going to have to keep it up then aren’t I?” Dai smiled before leaning up to melt into another kiss. Joe responded lovingly, quite liking the idea of having a gorgeous Dai in his bed every morning to wake him up.

“Yeah~ but it’s a shame that Lucullus only let me have you last night as a one off…” Joe snuggled against Dai’s neck and rested his head on the blondes shoulder. Dai let out a slight groan at the thought of Lucullus allowing them to spend one night together and holding it against them for the rest of their lives.

“You do realise you’re in his favour now…?” Dai asked, running his fingers back through Joe’s hair. The brunette smirked and started to draw circles on Dai’s bare shoulder with his right index finger.

“I kind of grasped that already, but I’m planning on keeping you here all day if it’s the last chance I get to have you alone in my bed.” To enforce his point, Joe wrapped his arms around Dai tightly, and huffed into the blonde’s chest. Dai giggled softly and kissed Joe’s forehead.

“As much as I would love to, I have to fix my room today…” Joe winced, but tried not to let Dai notice.

“Can’t Lucullus take care of it? I don’t want you back in there just yet…you have no idea how worried I was about you last night…” Joe tightened his grip slightly and tucked his head under Dai’s chin, wanting to be as close to his lover as he could and to never let go. Dai returned the hug and lovingly stroked up Joe’s back to his shoulder, down his arm and back again. When he began to feel something wet pooling in the dip of his collarbone, He pulled away slowly, in order to look at Joe face to face.

Joe knelt, between Dai’s legs, on his hands and knees. His hands clutched to the sheets either side of Dai. His head was downcast and every now and then a small crystal tear would slide down his cheek and drip off onto Dai’s chest. Dai was sitting up slightly, his legs bent either side of Joe in order to keep himself up. His hands were running up and down Joe’s arms, trying to calm him.

“Shh~ its ok…I’m fine…really…” At this a shaky sob left Joe’s lips. “Joe…” Dai pulled him forward into a hug and layback, so that their bodies pressed together, in order to try and calm him more. Instead, Joe clutched tighter onto Dai and sobbed even harder, tears now freely running down his cheeks. He muttered the same inaudible words every now and again, which Dai only just caught the one time:

“I Love You…Dai…I Love You…”
