Chapter 8
 
Sitting on the couch in Charles’s private office Julia felt self conscious. “ So Charles what answer do you need?” As if she didn’t know. Julia already knew he wonted her to say yes to going to the retreat with him.
“ Well Julia I know I dint give you enough time to decide but I need an answer now if you don’t mind.” Charles looked at Julia with concern.
“ I don’t know Charles. Maybe you should choose somebody else. Besides my husband might already have plans. My husband! I forgot I haven’t been home he is proberly worried about me I need to call him.”
Charles nodded his head and directed his hand to the phone on the desk. “ You are welcome to use my phone if you like. It’s a private line son nobody can hear it on another line unless they have authorization.” Charles stared at Julia for a minute before leaving the room and giving her some privacy.
Julia got up from the couch and made her way to the phone sitting on the desk. She sat down in the comfortable chair and dialed her husbands cell phone number.
Julia waited for a few minutes before she heard a voice. “ Shhhh………….Hello.”
“ Julia hesitated for a moment. “Hi honey it me.”
“ Julia hi how are you?” Julia was wondering why Greg didn’t call her a pet name like she did him. Then she heard another shushing noise over the phone.
She was also wondering why he was asking her how she was doing instead of asking her where is she and if she’s ok. “ I’m fine darling I’m sorry I wasn’t hone from dinner.”
“ It ok Julia. I wasn’t even home anyway.” Julia raised an eyebrow.
“ You wasn’t dear? Then where are you then?”
I’m on my way to Texas doing business.”
“ Oh, ok when will you be back then ?”
“ Proberly in a month Julia. I will let you know. I have to go now.”
“ Ok honey I love you”
Waiting for what seemed like a minute Julia finally heard something from him. “ Uh-huh see you in a month” And the line went dead.
“ Julia ?” Julia looked up and put the receiver back into its cradle. She saw Charles there in the door way. “ Are you ok Julia?”
Julia didn’t know that she was on the verge on crying. So she took her sleeve and wiped away the tear droplets that were beginning to form in her eyes. “ Yes Charles I’m ok.” Julia gave him a quick smile so he would just drop the subject.
Charles didn’t believe it for a minute that Julia was alright but anyway he made his way towards the desk. “ So do you have a answer for me?”
Julia though for a minute before answering. Since my husband was gone to Texas and without further notice it couldn’t hurt. “ Yes Charles I do have a answer for you”
