| [NOTE: Anyone reading this with intent to review, please do not only review based on this chapter, not only is it not finished, but even when finished it won't even be half the size of a normal chapter. If you want to review just one chapter, please start at Chapter 1] Hatred runs through most families, but in more often than not it isn't pure hatred, just simply an argument every so often where the people involved would go through the shame of having to apologize and be ready to talk and play with them on the next day as if nothing had happened. Matthew Prince hated his family but this was not the kind of hatred where you kiss and make up in an hour or so, this was one of the rare instances where a person hates his family right down to the blood running through his veins. His father was a rich man who owned a successful branch of restaurants. He had the money to get Matt anything he wanted but he never did. Matt wasn't that shallow, he didn't hate his father for that reason, although it did contribute. He hated his father because he had never, not once in Matt's recollection spoke to Matt for more than 30 seconds, when he did speak to Matt it was; "Bring that box up to my room, child" or; "Stay here and be quiet! I'm going to have a talk with your mother upstairs and we don't want to be disturbed" Then there was his mother, she absolutely despised Matt altogether. She often called him "The little mistake", she blamed everything on him and convicted him without reason, explanation or even evidence that he had actually done it, sometimes even resorting to smashing ornaments and vases and glass windows herself so she could punish Matt. She only liked Matt’s father for his money and he only liked her because he'd met her on a street corner and paid a handsome amount of money for her services. Since then she had found him again and offered her services but she did not use any birth control as she'd promised and the result was Matt. She didn't even name him; he was named after one of the doctors in the hospital when she demanded he be called "Accident". She used Matt as an excuse to live in his father’s house and spend all his fathers’ money. She was never mother to him, she was Belinda. One thing Belinda liked to bring up was the fact that Matt had no friends. Not a single one. He had been sent to a public school for the first years of his life, up until his 13th birthday 2 years ago where he had been expelled from school for fighting. During his time at school he had been the butt of all the jokes and rumours. He was glad to leave until he realised he would not be going to another school. he'd thought it would be a new start but his father didn't want to bother with the hassle of having to re-school his child, he was more concerned about how the media would react if they found his child had been expelled so he kept it under the collar by home schooling him, unfortunately his idea of home schooling had consisted of not actually spending anytime teaching or spending any money on supplies so he went and bought the three cheapest books he could find to educate him with instead. The books were not helpful at all. There were three books, One about the battle of Hastings which was only 12 pages long and surprisingly short of facts, the second was a large book about how to write the basic structure of letters which was also surprisingly short of actual information. The last book was a basic maths book for year 7 students which he had already completed at his former school, however there was something strange about this book. There was a test at the back of the book which had 150 questions, and then on the next page was the answers. The first time Matt did the test, he checked the answers to see if he’d got them right, and when he got to the last answers he was taken by shock. 145) 2/3 146) Tn = 2n2 – 4 147) л + 3 148) 172 149) 17.4 150) 100 151) 18 152) 10 153) 86 These last three answers were scrawled onto the bottom of the page in red ink, and they intrigued Matt, he would often wonder why they were there or who had written them there. There was only one person Matt could trust with anything he wanted and this person was not even a person. It was a little incorporeal ferret called Kaman. Kaman was his anismastis, his soul in a form visible only to him. She spoke to Matt and comforted him whenever he needed it. He remembered the day he met her very distinctively. Matt was 7 years old, and he was walking back from school. As he was walking, he started talking to himself, and he nearly fell over when a voice answered him. He looked around for who was speaking and didn’t see anyone He carried on walking and then Kaman just showed up, on his shoulder. They spoke for most of the way home and ever since then, they had been friends. She was his best friend, his only friend; she was the only thing keeping him sane, the only barrier between him and suicide, the one who understood what he was going through. She was much more than just a ferret. She was him. | |||
