Chapter 10

"So... how did you two meet?" I asked, producing a pen from inside my blazer and preparing to write down some notes,
"Well, I must say it was so romantic --" Candy started, but was interrupted,
"Our father set us up," I heard Aidan say, my ears perked up at this piece of new information,
"Aidan!!" whined Candy. Aidan, although talking to Candy, was looking me straight in the eye. I felt slightly uncomfortable,
"No point in lying is there? Sometimes... you got to know the truth," he said, twiddling his thumbs. I scoffed which, I must say, was very unladylike of me,
"Like you would know about telling the truth," I muttered, but unfortunately he heard me and rose that oh-so trim eyebrow of his,
"What is that supposed to mean?" he asked tightly. Candy sat to the side looking at us in utter confusion,
"Oh, I think you know what I mean," I said, sarcastically, putting down my pen and crossing my arms over my chest,
"I think you'll find... Miss. Takahashi, that I am perfectly capable of telling the tru--" Aidan said, but I was now in such a fury that I felt as if I could rip his head off those burly shoulders of his,
"TRUTH? BLOODY TRUTH... YOU WOULDN'T KNOW WHAT TRUTH IS IF IT SNEAKED UP ON YOU AND THREW A FLAMING PIE IN YOUR FACE!" I shouted, jumping up in anger and shaking my finger at him. He looked taken back at this outburst but looked equally angry,
"LOOK WHO'S TALKING! I CANNOT BELIEVE IT... NOT ONE SINGLE WORD I HEARD FROM YOU AND THEN YOU MARCH IN HERE AND START BELLOWING ABOUT TRUTH!" he shouted, I took a step back and shook my head, stating a no,
"No... I didn't hear a single word from YOU. Everyday I wrote to you, telling you how things were at school, how I really missed you, how everybody missed you... but most importantly, about how I loved you," I said quietly, lowering up head not daring to look at him. I couldn't bear it... his eyes sparkled emerald green with more mischief as when we students and his black hair shined in the morning light. I tried to slow my breathing, as I felt myself start to hyperventilate. Tears began to well, unwillingly, in my eyes and I hurriedly brushed them away,
"I did too," I heard Aidan say, I looked up and saw Aidan was only a step away from me, giving me the most sincere look I had ever seen in my life, "I sent letter after letter and nothing, not so much as an email or text was sent back... do you know how that made me feel?" he said, I looked at him in confusion,
"I didn't get any letters...," I said, Aidan took a step forward and looked over my shoulder his eyes focusing on something in the distance as if he was thinking,
"My father...," he whispered, so that only I could hear,
"You father?" I asked befuddled, he looked grim,
"My father always wanted me to marry a rich heiress and he didn't approve of us," he said, looking me dead in the eye,
"Oh," I managed to say,
"Suki, listen when I say this, I--" he was suddenly jerked back and I saw a flurry of blonde hair stand there looking very red in the face indeed,
"Aidan! What do you think you're doing?" Candy asked, Aidan looked at her blankly and then really looked her as if he only just realized she was standing there,
"Candy!" he said, his voice raising an octave. I sensed something big was going to happen and didn't want to be a part of it,
"I better go," I said, already packing my stuff up,
"No, Suki... we haven't finished the interview, I mean we have so much to discuss," Aidan said, turning to me, ignoring Candy's glare completely,
"This interview is terminated," I stated, not that it was much of an interview anyway, "If you have any questions, contact me," With that I walked out of the house.
As I walked down the stone steps, unsteadily I might add, I felt as if I was going to collapse in a bundle of nerves.
The truth being... I didn't know where this left Aidan and I.

"So you're telling me, that you had a full-blown argument with Aidan in front of his fiancé?" Maria asked incredulously. I merely nodded and tried to balance the wine glass on my knee and eat a box of Belgian chocolates,
"Oh, Suki... what are we going to do with you?" she asked, sympathetically,
After leaving Aidan's I traveled straight home, not bothering to return to work, and collapsed into Maria's confused arms and said... no sobbed... the whole story to her,
"I love him," I said sadly, stuffing a "tournai" into my mouth,
"You plonker," I heard Maria say softly, I turned my head and gave her a stern look but she continued, unperturbed, "I'm allowed to say that as I am your best friend and I love you," I chuckled a little,
"What do I do, Maz?" I said, looking at her fully now. She sighed a little before continuing,
"As I said a long time ago... let the pieces fall were they may, dearie," she said, before nicking my last chocolate and greedily gobbling it up.
