You Had Me At "Hey" 9 - "The name's Suki Takahashi"

Chapter 9

4 years later

4 years of emptiness. Filled with nothing but work, work and... you guessed it, more work.
I am 20 years old and work for The New York Times.
I am one of the top journalists in the field.
I live on 39th street, which is conveniently near work.
I share a studio flat with Maria.
And I have no boyfriend.
My life slightly sucks, doesn't it?

"Suki... darling, baby, sweetcheeks," I heard my boss, Alex Foster, greet me,
"Cut the crap, Foster," I said, looking up from where I was highlighting important things for my article, Obama or Clinton?,
"Well, my love, we have just been landed the biggest story ever," he said, slapping a piece of paper on my desk. My boss is probably the most gayest man you would ever meet, it's sickening, I rose an eyebrow,
"I thought the Obama/Clinton one is the biggest--" I got cut off,
"No way, my honeybun, this is even bigger," he said, placing his bum on my desk causing some highlighters to skitter across the desk, I glared at him as I automatically rearranged them,
"Our resident heiress is getting married," he said, pointing to a picture of a blonde woman with blue eyes and the figure of a stick insect. I rose both eyebrows this time,
"She... the one who has no interest with current affairs and has the IQ of a gnat... although maybe the gnat is a little bit smarter... anyway, she is getting married?" I asked, trying to hold back my laughter,
"Yes, well I know you have a very strong... dislike for her, but with this our sales will boost through the ceiling," he said, waving his hands in the air for dramtic effect,
"Dislike is an understatement," I muttered under my breathe. My last interview with the "heiress" aka Daddy's little girl was what some people would call a disaster, needless to say that I would not be looking forward to meeting her again,
"Please, do this interview for me, Suki baby... everyone else is tied up," Alex pleaded, batting is unusually long eylashes at me, I sighed in defeat,
"Fine whatever... who is she getting married to anyway?" I asked, out of curiosity,
"Not other than the baddest boy in town... Aidan Haulster," Alex said, grinning.
I swear my heart stopped beating.

Aidan's P.O.V.

"AIDANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN," I rolled my eyes as the whiny voice of my soon-to-be wife entered my ears. I stood up and walked towards the living room,
"Yes, darling?" I asked, wearily. I watched as Candy smoothed down her too blonde hair and rearrange her too small tshirt and turn to face me,
"The media will be here soon," she said, draping her arms around my neck. I looked down into her blue eyes and felt nothing,
"Really?" I said, quietly observing her as she puckered up her lips. I unhooked her and walked away,
"I better go get ready," I said, probably leaving her with a cross look on her face.
Whatever.
As I entered our room I noticed the newspaper from this morning laying on the bed. I picked it up casually flipped through it until one certain name caught my eye. Suki's.
I sighed heavily.
Not even one letter I had sent over the years had been returned.
No calls, texts or emails.
And now my father's making me marry that thing downstairs. I hate him.
Dingdong.
I looked up when I heard the doorbell ring.
I galloped down the stairs and opened the door.
I swear my heart stopped beating.

Suki's P.O.V.

"Aidan," I said, icily. I brushed past his shocked face and surveyed my surroundings,
"Nice place," I commented,
"Suki..." I heard Aidan say,
"I prefer not to mix work with my personal life so leave it out, okay?" I said, marching towards the living room,
"You!" I turned to faced Candy Blightworth and looked her up and down. She hadn't changed one bit,
"Yes, me," I said, crossing my arms and glaring at me, "Gotta problem, sort it," I hissed and took a seat and got out the stuff I needed. She looked quite shocked, as if no-one had spoken to her like that before. From the corner of my eye I saw Aidan trying to hold back his laughter, I secretly smiled to myself,
"What's your name again?" I heard Candy say,
"Suki," I replied, smoothing my skirt down and inserting a blank tape into the tape recorder,
"What, like Suzuki?" she asked, in that annoying high pitched voice of hers, "I always wanted one of those, but I guess I'll just have to put up with my 3 Mini coopers," she said, putting 2 fingers up. I rose an eyebrow and looked at her pityingly,
"Honey, the name's Suki Takahashi and you're holding 2 fingers not 3 , learn how to count next time," I said, she looked postitively crestfallen,
"Are we ready?" I asked, clicking the 'Record' button.
