Chapter 3

I was on my own for lunch because Maria had dance to go to.
As usual, I sat by myself in the corner of the library with my lunch and a book I had just started to read.
"Hey," I looked from my page and raised an eyebrow,
"Yes?" I said, haughtily,
"Uh... can I sit with you?"
"If you want to," I said, returning to my book. I heard some rustling beside me and saw Aidan sit down and pull out a sketchbook and some pencils.
We sat in an awkward silence when he suddenly burst out,
"What is you problem?" I raised both eyebrows this time,
"What do you mean?" I asked,
"You act as if you are above everyone else. I mean, I say hi to you and I don't even get a reply," he said, looking me straight in the eye. I was suddenly feeling a little uncomfortable,
"I guess it's just the way I am. And frankly, I do not think I'm above everyone else," I replied, glaring at him,
"Well, sorry for assuming," he huffed,
"Next time don't go around making assumptions," I huffed back before picking up my stuff and moving to another table.
God, he was so infuriating.

"How was lunch?" Maria asked, I glared gloomily at the floor,
"New boy just had to go ruin it," I muttered, "He said that I think that I'm superior or something,"
Maria chuckled heartily,
"It's only because you don't really speak to anybody and he doesn't really know you" she replied, "Because, if I didn't know you I would think that you think you're superior to everybody else,"
I cocked an eyebrow; I seemed to be doing this a lot lately,
"I guess you're right, but he is so annoying!" I grumbled as I reached my locker. As I opened the door a piece of paper fell out. Curiosity getting the better of me I picked it up and opened it out,
I am very sorry I made assumptions.
We got off on the wrong foot.
Maybe we can try and be friends?

I read the note again,
"Oh, snazzy. I think someones got the hots for you," Maria said, startling me. I had forgotten she was there; I blushed a deep crimson,
"Yeah, right. No-one ever fancies me," I muttered shoving the note in my pocket and stalking off.

"HEY! WAIT UP," I turned around and was surprised to see Aidan knocking people out of the way to get to me,
"Uh... hello?" I said, a little bit confused, he smiled radiantly at me as he slowed down to walk beside me,
"Did you get my note?" he asked, somewhat shyly, looking down at his feet,
"Yeah," I said, quietly walking out into the open air, "And I think you're right by the way,"
He positively beamed at me,
"Cool, my first new friend," he said, more to himself than me,
"So hey, I never did get your name," he said,
"Suki," I said, shoving my hands in my jacket pockets,
"What's your favourite colour?," he said, after a moments silence,
"What is this... 20 Questions?" I asked, looking at him sideways,
"I just want to get to know you, seeing as we know are friends," he grinning, nudging me playfully in my ribs. I smiled uncertainly when I noticed something,
"Hey are you following me home?" I asked,
"More like are you following me?" he said, wiggling his eyebrows playfully. I smiled hesitantly as I turned into my road,
"Well, I live at 21 Fuller Close," he continued, striding ahead of me,
"Hey... I live at number 19," I said, running to catch me up,
"Ooooh, next door neighbour, eh?" he said, "I'll walk you to your door," I shrugged non-commitedly.

"Well, I guess I'll see you tomorrow, Suki," he said, as we stood at my front porch,
"Ok, sure," I mumbled. We stood there for a few moments in an awkward silence until he looked up,
"Oh.. well bye then," he said, giving me a half-grin. For a while we just stood there staring at each other...

Maybe there was something there.
