| I relaxed in the wooden chair I had been sitting in for the past three days, as it would get no more comfortable than this. I watched as the unidentified captor paced from side to side of the little hut, and wondered how long I would remain a hostage. I adjusted my hands, which were now handcuffed, to my right side to fix my shirt. "Ms. I don't know what I did! I honestly have no idea why in the heck you would take me in the middle of nowhere I mean…" "SHUT UP! You are they most annoying person ever! I didn't kidnap you for nothing." The kidnapper reached into her pocket, and pulled out a gun of some sort, when my vision blurred. I blinked and BANG! I opened my eyes to find the stranger lying on the floor. Had she committed suicide? The door hung wide open and within seconds the rope around my body fell and I was finally free. I was about to turn around when my head was yanked to look straight at the door. Their hands were clammy and shaking as the mysterious stranger said, “Run, run for your life. Civilization is straight ahead. Whatever you do, don’t look back. You don’t know who I am, but you will soon. Now run.” As the man (could be a woman) whispered, chills were sent down my spine. I was pushed out if my chair and fell to my knees. I rubbed the dirt off my legs as I heard, ‘Run, don’t look back.’ three times. I took off in a full sprint into the forest. My heart beated faster with every step I took. I gasped for air when my lungs felt like they were collapsing. My hair blew in my face as I felt a few dewdrops on my head and smelled the thick humidity. My nose crinkled as the smell of hotdogs and fresh tar filled the air. And in the spur of the moment, I tripped over Oak roots. As I fell, I realized my hands were uncuffed, so after regaining myself I reached into my pocket to find my dead cell phone. It had been off since the day I was kidnapped. I put the Razr in my hands and held the red “power” button. I love Duncan appeared and then my number…DUNCAN! “I’d better call him.” As soon as my phone was completely on, I held in 1, and put the phone up to my ear and waited for a ringtone. BEEP! “Crap, no service!” I am talking to myself way to much for some odd reason today. I walked around in all kinds of poses finding service. As soon as I found service, my phone screen turned black. UGH! I sat down on a tree root and finally looked back. All I could see were trees and grass. I banged my head on the oak three times and closed my eyes. In, out, in, out, in, ow! I rubbed my side as the pain grew stronger and stronger. I was left to think, rub and nothing more. If they find my body 20 years from now, I want them to at least be able to tell who I am. I dug in my back pocket of my torn up sevens and poked around for pocket knife. Something pricked my finger, probably the scissors that were left open. I closed the scissors and pulled the knife out. The sun was rising in the east and gave me some light so I could write on the tree. Nadia Merilee 16, 10th grade Kidnapped Bye to… That’s all I got to write when a loud horn broke my concentration. My knife dragged across the bark as I looked east, directly into the sun. Real smart! Ain’t it though! Oh great now I’m answering myself! EAST! Dansville is always west of the waking Leo! That means face north and I am FREE! I dropped my knife and held my side as I took off to freedom. I didn’t care if I looked like old granny running toward her kidnapped Ms. Frere, but no one was watching but God. THANK GOD!!! A sign popped up out of nowhere and I ran directly into it. I pulled myself up and to read the sign. It stated: “Nadia Merilee! Black Hair Aqua Blue Eyes, distinct mole on her upper lip. $$$Reward$$$” Dustin must have gone to all this trouble just to find me. So loved! And in fine print on the bottom of the message was: “Paid For by Friends and Family of Nadia.” Ok…and my family! BEEP, BEEP!! BEEP, BEEP BBBBEEEEPPPP!!! I turned around and gazed with my mouth open at what seemed like a miracle. Interstate-71 lay right in front of me. Finally, things were staring to turn around. And I could see Dansville from atop here. More BEEPS and HONKS came from the cars, some waved, and rest yelled OMG out their window. I waved back, and then, all of a sudden, I collapsed. I knees gave in leaving me to fall. I lay on my back staring at the rising sky. It was still dark but presences of the sun were there. In the east the sky was a pink-orange color, and white fluff clouds were staring to appear. A wide grin fell on my face, with my teeth chattering and hands shaking, I gathered my thoughts, and re-gained power. But just enough to stand up and look into the horizon. I took one last look into the forest and trudged, step-by-step up to the interstate. Wiping my muddy hands on my faded blue jeans I yelled, “TAXI! TRUCK! ANYONE!” and stuck my thumb out, hoping for the best. | |||
