The Spark

Over the months Chang grew more and more irritable, getting drunk and generally being a pest. One night he returned to the village with 100 stunning horses, all battle worthy and strong, this was to be the spark that set off the explosive battle in the next chapter.
Kuan and Liu both were amazed by the remarkable creatures, that Chang had ‘found’. However, in the morning, this wasn’t the case, as Lu Pu bellowed for Liu to meet with him. The three brothers approached the obviously angered warrior.
“That damned Chang has stolen 100 of my best horses!” Liu looked at Chang who simply gave a lazy shrug.
“Lu I must apologise for my brother behaviour. I will return your horses immediately!” and Liu hurried his men to get the horses, but Chang could no longer hold in his anger.
“Lu! You come here! We give you a place to call your won! And how do you repay us!? With this foolish village and calling my lord ‘little brother’! Have you no respect!? No honour!? You are no more than a thug!” and suddenly the two ran at each other. Liu, frightened of what may happen suddenly threw himself between them.
“Stop! Chang! Return to your household! Get out of my sight! I don’t want to see you for the rest of the day! You have no understanding of how things work, you simply answer everything with your fists or your ungifted tongue! It is you who is the thug!” Chang Fei was so hurt by what Liu said that he crept out of sight in shame. This pleased Lu Pu mightily, he gave a hearty laugh.
“Yes, he is a foolish one, not like us little brother, we understand how things work.” Out of the corner of his eye he saw Kuan Yu readying his weapon.
“Kuan, is it your turn to see if you can take me on?” Lu Pu asked slyly. Kuan simply turned away and disappeared out of sight.
“Lu Pu, indeed you are merciful! Please, take your horses, I shall punish my brothers for their rudeness!” and with that Lu Pu left.
Liu firstly went to Chang, and calmed him, for he did not mean his words, he just needed to calm the situation. He then went to Kuan Yu, and passed him a note, no words exchanged, just a simple nod, but Kuan knew perfectly what he was to do.
Zhou Mai had on that night decided to camp out, reading the stars. He suddenly sprang up with shock and mounted his horse. The stars told him that the plan for help would be discovered. He raced on wards, in the hope that he could meet up with the messenger. However, he arrived to see a small platoon, standing among a few dead soldiers and Lu Pu at the head reading a letter.
“That bastard Liu Pei! I allow him to live in MY province and this is how he repays me! He plans an attack with that scum T’sao T’sao! Well, tonight we’ll make him pay for what he has done!” Zhou Mai was panic stricken, and raced back to T’sao in a desperate bid to get help.
Lu Pu approached Xiao Pei to find it quite empty, Kuan had returned in enough time to evacuate his brother and the rest of the family. Lu Pu was quite angered, and mobilised his army in pursuit of Liu Pei’s fleeing force.
How would Liu Pei manage to repel Lu Pu, and could he?
