| Ever since I can remember Number 666 Low Fell High Street has always been empty. As children we'd dare each other to go near it but not one of us was brave enough to make it to the front step. We'd all say we saw something glaring down at us from the upstairs window. So how Mandi with her camcorder had managed to persuade me to spend the night in there was beyond me. I shuddered as we approached the flaking green door. It was Halloween 10 years ago that Mandi became obsessed with the supernatural and all because some gypsy at Blackpool Beach told her she had 'The Gift'. Since then I'd been dragged to every spiritualist meeting and church she could find. I was surprised how full they were of people desperate for contact with a loved one. "Will you stop freaking? This put to rest this silly urban myth!" Mandi grinned as she forced open the door. "Or we could be laid to rest!" I gasped as we stumbled through into the hallway. It was dark and full of cobwebs. "You are such a wimp!" "We need to leave - now!" Mandi ignored me and started videoing the empty rooms. She was thinking of herself and how much money she could make with 'her gift'. Sometimes I wished for the old 'Mandy ' back instead of this rather gothic looking hippy. "I'm not picking up any vibes!" She whispered yet the coldness made me shiver and there was this bitter stench that filled the air. I could feel the bile stick to the back of my throat and I was sure I heard whispers. "Okay. I've had enough now. Can we go now? Mandi? Mandi? This isn't funny! Just come out from where ever you're hiding!" There was nothing but an eerie silence that seemed to follow me as I frantically searched for her. Every step I took the air got heavier and the stench got thicker. I saw her standing in the old bedroom with her back to me. She was staring out of the window. I gasped as I saw her turn to face me and her now ashen white face. "Help me!" She mumbled. "Please!" "They won't let you leave. All they wanted was some peace but you and that darn camera of yours. How could you?!" I heard myself saying. "I don't want to be here." She wept "I'm scared." "You? With your gift? Except it wasn't - it was mine and you've been milking it ever since! - They're here!" "Who? Who are here? Please. What are they?!" "They have you surrounded Mandi!" I shed a tear for her before walking away. I could hear her screaming, begging for mercy but there was none. Soon she'd be one of them. If only there could have been another way but some things just shouldn't be meddled with. "666! Number of the Beast!" Came the echoing call from the Eyes of the Faceless ... | |||
