I thought at that moment. It would be perfect to ask Ruby what her feelings were to me. I thought she definatly liked me back; maybe even loved me. As she was proud that I was the father.
I began to pluck up the courage and by midday, I was set on what I was gunna say to her.
So when we had stopped for a short break and Matthew was off getting fire wood. I asked for a quiet word from her...
We wandered into a deserted area. My mind went haywire with the possiblity that this could be the place where she tells me that she loves me. Other ideas started to pop into my mind too but I knew that those were far to physical for at this delicate time.
"Ruby, we've been through so much together. I've known you all my life and would even dye for you. We have a family together..."
I grabbed her hand and held it. But she refused to look me in the eye..I kept going.
"You know this. We could have a life. Just the 3 of us..no sam.
Ruby-I lov you and I've always will.
Please tell me that you lov me back..."
I still had her hand clasped in mine..I could feel her pulse on her wrist.
"Callum..." she slowly whispered. "I'm....I.....I'm so....so sorry for all the pain that I've caused you but you need to know this.
No matter what, I will always love Sam.
I know that I've known you all my life and I know that it would be good to have a family with you. But my family is with Sam and our son. He's not your son anymore Callum. You should of let go of him along time ago. Just as you should of done with me..."

At that moment. I dropped her hand. It had broken my heart. She turned and clasped hold of my chin...her eyes gazed into mine. I turned and left the room...

I walked out into the cold night air...now it was my turn.
