| Monday 2nd July After a rough night, were I failed to get to sleep until 1 a.m and then woke up at 4 a.m, I finally got to sleep and woke up again at 10 to 8 feeling like death. Knowing that I had a solid days work ahead of me. I got dressed and wondered to the common room. To make matters worse, I had woken up with cramp in my calf, so now struggling to walk. I sat down an enjoyed my egg, jam, banana and weetabix, which went down nicely. I then had my first experience of the long drop, and got to christen Tom’s home made toilet seat. It was a new, yet exciting prospect, after 5 minutes I shut the door and it was over. We then set out to work, another morning of sanding, I was over the moon (not). After three hours of sanding we called lunch. Lunch was another appetising meal of jam and honey buns. Which Claire, Amber and myself had prepared, after a nice break and some fun washing up it was back to work. The first thing we discovered was that half the sanding we had done that morning did not need to be done, which was quite gutting. But in the afternoon, we set about digging the foundations for the tree house, this was 2 and half hours of solid digging in the sweltering heat, sweat ran down off brow and off my body. However I was having so much fun, looking round see the others digging away, and then seeing Apollo, digging his hole 5 times faster than everyone else, with half the effort. I personally thought I was doing quite well, but as I got deeper the ground got harder and harder, at about 5 p.m a storm started coming in so we had to gather the wood in, and at 5.30 the rain set in. It was possibly the greatest rain shower ever. Everyone was so happy, we showered, danced it was just incredible. The Ugandans must have thought we had never seen rain before. I had to leave early, as I was preparing dinner, firstly I had to prepare the chapattis (type of bread) to go with the pasta and sauce. Which was once again stunning, we then got stuck in with the washing up, which ended up getting very eventful. It started well with myself, Rod and Ivan with the help of John, Sophia and Antoine. However after a few splashes, things started getting out of hand, it amounted in John calling me dick, rather loudly, whilst the children were outside saying the prayers. Making him feel very embarrassed. We then returned to our area, were we sat and chat. Which was very interesting, with truths about students, staff and trips were revealed. We eventually wondered off to bed about 10.30, absolutely exhausted and ready to sleep. | |||
