Arraignment

“You’re being charged with the kidnapping in the first degree and murder in the first degree.” Judge Kirk Daywood announced. “Mr. Narcs where is your attorney?”
“I don’t want one sir.” Narcs responded.
“Mr. Narcs this is kidnapping 1 and murder 1. I will not have you without a lawyer in my court,” Judge Daywood stated a little overly dramatic. “Do I have to appoint a public defender sir?”
“No need your honor I am present, O’Lisa Preston for Derick Narcs. May I have a brief converstation with the defendant?” O’Lisa announced as Derick Narcs just sat there looking puzzled.
“Go ahead!” Judge Daywood motioned. Then O’Lisa took Derick Narcs out of the room to speak to him.
“I don’t want a lawyer, and who are you?” Derick asked.
“My name is O’Lisa Preston I’m taking your case,” O’Lisa answered.
“How many times do I have to say it, I don’t want a lawyer,” Derick shouted at her.
“Okay, Daywood always gets what he wants in his courtroom. So, you can either one, have me as your lawyer who is determined to win this case, or two, you can have some public defender who really doesn’t give a crap,” O’Lisa explained smugly.
“It’s your choice Mr. Narcs,” Derick just sat there for a moment to think.
“Fine, but do I have to pay you or something?” Derick agreed and asked.
“No, I want this case,” O’Lisa answered.
“Why? I’m just another kidnapping and murdering criminal who the public loves to stereotype and judge, just because it makes them feel better about themselves,” Derick told O’Lisa angrily. “Because everyone deserves a defense,” Said O’Lisa ,a little shaken up by Derick’s speech.
“I’m innocent,” Derick told her. “Okay,” O’Lisa said suspiciously.
“Do you believe me?” Derick asked looking into O’Lisa’s eyes. O’Lisa nodded.
“Then say it!” Derick said sternly. “
Yes Derick, I believe you,” O’Lisa told him slowly.
“Now lets see if we can get you some bail”.
“I doubt it,” Derick said.
“You’re probably right. It is a murder one and kidnapping one case,” O’Lisa agreed and they entered the courtroom once more. After entering and taking their seats the judge asked Derick if he pled guilty or not guilty.
“I plead not guilty your honor,” Derick answered. The police were dumbstruck, for Derick had confessed to both the kidnapping and murder. They knew they would have to work harder to get Derick in prison since now he had a lawyer.
“Is this case going to be too hard to win?” Detective Shannon asked her partner, while O’Lisa, A.D.A. Daily, and the judge were working out the bail. Bail was obviously not going to work out for Derick and O’Lisa, but they already knew that.
“No, we can win this one easily. We’ve already got his confession,” Marson answered his partner. But little did they know O’Lisa Preston had a plan to get the confession thrown out. This case was not going to be easy. For anyone!
