A Universal Theory

I was prompted to write this chapter after reading a book discussing various theories of the universe. This book was entitled God: Fact or Fiction?* Although this book’s original topic was to discuss whether or not there is a God, I was much more intrigued by the theories of the universe, the Big Bang, the Big Crunch, etc. I was also struck by the realization of how small human comprehension really is. I am now discovering that ideas I have understood for my entire life aren’t understood by many scientists and writers.

Why would anyone with a reasonable comprehension of the universe ask “what existed before the Big Bang?” Let me point out all the reasons this is a ridiculous question to ask…

The Big Bang theory proposes that before the Big Bang, all the matter in the universe was squeezed into the tiniest possible amount of space – this amount of space is called ‘singularity’. So therefore, anything which existed before the Big Bang had to exist OUTSIDE of the universe. And outside of the universe – or so my theory runs, anyway – exists the Void. The Void is, quite simply, nothingness. But when I say nothing, I don’t mean nothing as in the rainy-Sunday-afternoon “nothing” to do type of nothing. I mean true nothing. No DIMENSIONS. No time, no space, no light. It’s surprising how difficult people find it to adapt to this theory – to twist their minds around an idea so far removed from their own monotonous lives they have to think in a completely different way if they wish to understand it. Basically, the Big Bang was the BEGINNING. There’s nothing before a beginning.

I also have another topic to talk about, which I found in “God: Fact or Fiction?”. It deals, basically, with the universe, and the fact that quite simply there is not enough matter in the universe to hold it together, and yet it does stay together, it doesn’t drift apart. Well, I’d like to present you with my theory on why this is so – if you don’t want me to twist your understanding of the universe, don’t read on.

Do you know what a plane is? You’ve probably heard the term used in geometry. It is the area in which lines and points exist – any plane contains an infinite number of lines and points. Have you heard the phrase “plane of existence”? This is the plane in which we exist. But consider this: what if there was another dimension – plane – and things could therefore exist simultaneously at the same place and point in time, but on different planes. My theory runs that there are a few planes, up to maybe seven or down as far as three, in each place. The matter in these planes is caught by the gravity of this place, and therefore helps to hold it together, but its physical attributes all occur on its own plane. The only effect it can have on our plane is to be pulled by our gravity.

I very much hope this theory makes as much sense to you as it does to me. If you have a valid point to make about it, or a reasonable question, please leave it in a review or comment and I’ll do my best to reply. I'd also like to point out that this isn't actually my dedicated opinion on the subject - I have many such theories, and this is simply one of them. It's just something interesting I thought I'd bring up.
