| Now that Elizabeth was next in line for the throne plots started to form. The most famous one, which nearly cost Elizabeth her life, was the one with Thomas Wyatt. Elizabeth who was held in the tower for two months. In that time she wrote a famous saying “much convicted of me, nothing proved can be quotes Elizabeth prisoner” Eventually she was but under house arrest for 16 months as there was no evidence against her. At this point Mary thought that she was pregnant. Mary and Elizabeth arranged to meet. After the meeting Elizabeth returned to her home at Hatfield. Philip now bored of England and of its resources returned to Spain. Mary’s pregnancy turned out to be a phantom and she soon realised that she was baron. Eventually Mary said that she would allow Elizabeth to succeed as long as she maintained the catholic faith as it was and to pay off Mary’s debts. Elizabeth agreed. At 7.00 in the morning on 17th November 1558 Mary died of cancer. When the councillors came to declare Elizabeth queen Elizabeth was sitting under an oak tree. Then in Latin she said, “this is the work of the lord and it is marvellous in our eyes” Elizabeth was 25 when she came to the throne which in those days wasn’t considered very young. She was tall with brown eyes and orban hair. She enjoyed walking early in the morning, dancing, reading, and horse riding and hunting. She believed that she had been chosen by God to rule England. Parliament wanted an heir to secure the succession however Elizabeth refused, as she would not give up her independence. But if she did marry who would it be…. | |||
