Who is this woman?

The next day Emily woke up and looked around the room to see the bed on her right empty, if that wasn’t puzzling enough, she looked to her left and saw that Ferd was still there and he was sleeping soundly as ever.
“Oh dear… I thought we came here to relax.” Emily said to herself out loud
“Nope.” came a voice from the door “If you live here for too long you won’t remember what relax means!” laughed Ian
“Hi, how are you?” Emily asked Ian
“I’m fine, although I could do with a hand…Would you?”
“Yeah, what with?”
“Well… Maxwell was running down the stairs after Yoda in his doggie form and he fell and he’s bleeding, you know how much I don’t do blood at the moment!”
“Yes, but you know how much I don’t do small annoying brats, but seeing as it’s for your sake not his, I suppose I could.”
“And you know how much I love you!” pleaded Ian.
“I thought you loved me more?” asked a now wide-awake Ferd.
“Not anymore I don’t my dear friend. Now get up before I start charging you rent.”
After Emily cleaned up a bleeding-to-death Maxwell she headed into the kitchen to see a sight of total destruction. There was a sink of washing-up, clothes (mainly pink frilly pants) scattered the floor and there, in the middle of the kitchen, Ian was sat, sobbing on the floor holding a torn photo of him and Karen on their wedding day.
“Hell, you go from one emotion to another Ian, you’re worse than Jackie. Where is she by the way?” asked Emily, she was talking like nothing was wrong, but deep down she was about to cry.
“She’s at the door, I think the rest of my ‘dear’ and ‘loving’ family has come. It’s that or Ferd has invited his mates for a gay reunion!” laughed Ian. He was making a big effort, but it was hard to be happy for this long, he knew his mask would break soon, and then his true feelings would come out.
“Uncle Ian!!!!” came a high-pitched voice that surprisingly wasn’t Ferd’s.
“Amie…” sighed Ian un-enthusiastically
“Auntie Jack…Emily!” Amie screamed again
“Hi Amie, how are you?” replied Emily
“I’m fine although Jamie pulled my hair out and now Mummy’s mad at him because he put the hair toggle in his bag and then the rabbit that was hiding in there ate it… naughty bunny” recalled Amie
“Right, I think I will go and fetch some more chairs from upstairs” said Emily. Any excuse to get away!
As she walked along the landing she spotted something on the floor outside Ian’s bedroom. It was a pair of woman’s underwear and a small camisole top. As she went to pick it up Ian’s bedroom door opened and a petite pretty woman walked out, she had brown hair, which was up in a bun, and was wearing a pair of jeans and a strappy red top.
“Who the hell are you and what are you doing in our house?” shouted Emily indignantly.
“Well, for one it’s technically also my house and two, I don’t think you have the right to speak to me like that. Do you have any idea who I am?” questioned the woman.
“Well, if I did, I wouldn’t have asked, would I? So, you are…?” replied Emily, just as fast.
“OK, you are obviously very stupid and am I really going to have to explain this to you AND all those other people downstairs?”
“Yes, as I doubt any of them know who you are either,” said Emily
“I wouldn’t be so sure. I have a funny feeling I know most of those people. I’m surprised you can’t see the resemblance between me and m-.”
“For goodness sake, shut up and come with me…” Emily was fast loosing her patience. The strange woman, in a move that was terribly uncharacteristic, did as she was told.

“Who the HELL is this slut, Ian?” screamed Emily as she and the stranger walked into the kitchen with yet more chairs.
“Well-” started Ian, but Simon cut across him
“SAM?” he yelled.
“Congratulations. I thought blonde men were idiots.” said Sam flatly
“You were like this when I met you, once a b-” started Simon
“Ah-hem?” coughed Ian “Before you all start to insult each other, I think I should introduce you all to my new girlfriend and Maxwell’s mother, Sam.” Ian said proudly. He soon stopped beaming when he realized that both Simon and Nicola’s faces had fallen and Clare didn’t really look ecstatically pleased for him.
“So… why do you all look so ashamed?” asked Ian, he was genuinely confused, hadn’t he done something right for once?
“Um… Ian?” asked Simon “Do you realise who this … slu- woman is?”
“Yes I do. She is my girlfriend and Maxwell’s mother… I did just say that by the way.”
“No, seriously?” he asked. When Ian looked blank, he continued
“Well… I guess you know that Nicola Sam and I all work at the school?”
“Yes?” replied a bemused Ian
“Well, I used to go out with Sam. And not to be mean or anything, she’s not the easiest person to live with. Or to get on with for that matter…” He really had stepped over the line now…
“OK. Let’s get this straight, ok? I suddenly acquire a son, that’s not one of my best moves, right? Then me and Karen split up, also not good; and now I get back together with my son’s mother, shouldn’t that be counted as one of my better moves?” asked Ian, he was fuming at his family for not being happy for him.
“Well,” Clare piped up “It would be good apart from the fact that she seems to have a slight history with some important people in our family. Or had you forgotten that, Dad? Oh, by the way, in case you hadn’t noticed, she’s only just older than me, are there any other sluts that you knocked up and I need to know about? Now is you’re chance to tell me Dad.”
“There was Marilyn… but we won’t go into that now sweetheart,” said Ian
“Yes Ian, now really is not the time to reel of that list of your exes, is it?” asked Nicola, in a voice unusually sarcastic for her. Somehow Ian got that that was a rhetorical question.
“Ok, fine! I get the message! No more comments from you lot, but I was thinking, seeing as everyone else has something bad to say about Sam, Ferd probably does too. Now’s your chance!” shouted Ian. He really was fuming now and if Ferd said the slightest thing wrong, he really was going to be made into squirrel food.
“She was quite nice to me actually, but there was that thing she did to Simon… the thing with the pig?” Ferd – lovely but incredibly stupid.
“Yes, I heard about that too. Can you remember that, Dad? Sam?” Clare was just asking for it now.
“OK, you’ve made your point, now you can all bugger off. Me, Clare and Sam need to speak for a moment. Can you take them to their rooms Jackie, Emily?”
“Sure. Come on” said Emily. She really wanted to go and sit on her own with Ian, but she realised that he had slightly bigger problems at the moment. So she and Jackie lead everyone to their rooms whilst Ian, Clare and Sam talked. Or rather, shouted.
“HOW COULD YOU?” shouted Clare at no one in particular
“I don’t know. It was a while ago now… only a while after you came and found Me.” replied Ian. He didn’t want to upset her, but she had to be considerate to him.
“Look, if I thought it would upset you this much Clare, I would have stayed away for a while, till things had settled down. I just wanted to be with your Dad and my son.” said Sam.
“DON’T LIE! Don’t talk to me like you are inferior to me! You are only 5 years older than me. And if you wanted to be with Maxwell, why the heck did you put him in care. It’s not like you were still a kid when you had him, were you? Just a bloody unfit mother. You still are!” screamed Clare.
“Look, Clare, love” Ian began
“NO, I WON’T. I can’t see how anyone is ever going to speak to you again Dad. I know Mum overreacted about Maxwell, but you really have pushed it this time. We have all bent over backwards for you but I’ve had it. You better fix it yourself this time because if you don’t do it soon, I'll be gone. And I don’t mean gone for a bit. Gone again and I’m sure you wouldn’t want me to do that because if I go, Cadence and Mike come too. I’m sure you wouldn’t want that. You better think hard about what you want more - Me and your other family or her and your brat son. OK?” Clare stormed off to talk to Mike. It was just too much too soon.
“God! What have I done? Why, why are women so hard to please?” Ian asked himself.
“I’m sorry Ian. I really think I should leave, I’ve caused too much hurt already and you have only just introduced me. Goodbye Ian.” Sam said
“No, Sam. I refuse to let you leave. I know everyone is annoyed now, but they’ll come round. I will make them give you a chance. I have only just found happiness with you and Max and I refuse to let them take that away from me. They have enough demons in their cupboards and I managed to forgive them, so they are going to have to get used to us. Maxwell need’s his Mum and Dad. One is not enough and we are going to be together no matter what they say. Ok?”
“OK. I will stay a while longer, but I really don’t want to upset anyone more than I already have.” replied Sam
“I love them all, but it’s my life. So stuff them. That’s that then.”
“Ian?” came Nicola’s voice from outside Ian’s room.
“Yeah. What do you want? Come to gloat have you?” came his muffled reply.
Nicola went into his room and sat on the bottom of his bed. He was sat on the pillow staring out of the window.
“No, I came to say sorry. And I don’t want you to think I don’t care, I just want you to be happy.” Nicola said
“You sound like Mum you know.” He replied
“Really? I don’t know if that’s a good thing, but I do know that we have all been unreasonable. It was just a shock to see Sam again. She brings bad memories with her. But really, if she makes you happy, go ahead. We knew she was Maxwell’s Mum. We guessed.” She had answered Ian’s next question. “And I think it’s good that you are trying to be a proper family for him, and I don’t want to stand in your way. OK? I just needed you to know I cared.”
She stood in his room for ages and Ian did not reply. She could tell he was holding back the tears.
“No, I know you care and I just wanted everything to be ok for once. Why does life never go right?” Ian shouted to her as she headed for the door
“I don’t know Ian, I just don’t know”
