Changing Faces <ChangingF>

Changing Faces is a UK charity that supports and represents children, young people & adults who have disfigurements of the face or body from any cause. Over 1 million people in the UK have a disfigurement to their face or body and over 500,000 to their face.

We offer a space to talk, get support & new ideas or access counselling; workshops & events, information & resources. Anyone aged 11-21 can join www.iface.org.uk & swap tips, share experience & get advice, whether you have personal experience or are a friend/relative of someone who has a visible difference.

Our Young People's Council (for 14-25 year olds) helps us develop our services for young people & gives a voice to help other people understand what it's like to have a visible difference. They meet 5 times a year & get involved in loads of fun activities.

  • Look out for a new BBC3 programme tonight at 9pm - Jess: My New Face

    Hey there,

On BBC3 tonight the 'Beauty' season kicks off with a documentary called Jess: My New Face.

It stars (and is narrated by Jess) who's a committed member of our Young People's Council and a champion of the Face Equality campaign. The programme follows her as she meets a variety of women who have different perceptions of beauty & explores the importance of looks against the context of her own experience of growing up with a facial disfigurement & preparing for surgery.

Kellie, who's also a committed member of our YPC and who also features in our new ad campaign for Face Equality, features too.

BBC 3 controller, Danny Cohen, was so impressed by the preview tape that he chose the programme to kick off the BBC3 season on beauty.

Jess: My New Face 9.00pm BBC3, Monday 30 June and repeated on Wednesday 2 July at 9.55 on BBC3.

You can also watch online here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcthree/livearena/

    Best wishes,
    Changing Faces

its very sad this hasnt got the recognition it deserves - not to sound too patronising but theres enough things out there to support aids/cancer and the like - not nearly enough things in place to support disfigurement and government should be putting more effort into addressing the problem - and not forgetting these charitys i mentioned before hand can carry a high risk of one becoming disfigured - maybe its just not seen as trendy as the others - perhaps if big celebs took the time to promote it the way they do with other things it would get the recognition it deserves - its a shallow and cynical way of thinking but the public needs to be aware more - i dont personally think enough is done - not by the charitys supporting disfigurement itself but the recognition and funding as its something thats still very alien to society - why cant there be anyone with a facial disfigurement on these reality / talent shows etc - its something that should be addressed.

OMG, I can't believe there are others my sort of age who may be able to relate to some of the life experiences I have had...why isn't this charity promoted more??? Although being a bit different on the outside, it is on the inside where the real battle lies. Havin some people along the way to help you fight that batlle can make the difference between being happy and waking up dreading the next day. This is why I hope Changing Faces is able to reach out more to people usin bebo or whatever so that guys like me know we are not alone :) Sorry for the lecture xo

You should make up a group on this instead of just a normal profile
The people can be part of a group instead of just being a friend

    Just a suggestion
