Hey Everyone!!!

My name is Cara Cioni and Im your American traveller for this awesome journey called The Gap Year!!! The Gap Year is a journey of a lifetime... and I am looking forward to meeting new people from around the world, crazy adventures, and living life to its fullest!!

So I left South Africa after a month and just spent 2 weeks in Madagascar....it was quite the little getaway....amazing and challenging at the same time! Im making my way up north for a bit!

If you have any ideas as to where to go...who to meet...what to do, let me know! :)

Mozambique....What a week!
Hey Guys!

Here in Maputo, Mozambique! Its amazing here! We went to Tofo the other day after our horrendous flight. Its a beachy place...bungalows and huts all lined up along the shore! It was nice to meet some people along the way....its been a bit quiet along the route and kicking it back, having a few drinks, good conversation and relaxation....it was great!

Of course, after that terrible flight back from Madagascar, I had to board three more planes in 2 days! Go figure..and just to throw the cherry on top..the last plane there and back was one of those 12 seater charter planes over the ocean...I mean come on now! Cant a girl catch a break! Although it was alot better than I thought it was gonna be! :)

Finally around some internet...but yet again, I cant upload my pics! I saw so many amazing things that I would like for you to see...like the whale watching!!! It was freaking amazing...one of the coolest things I have ever seen! Spent a wonderful day in the sun...on a boat...watching these magnificent animals in their own world! What a day...cant wait to show you them! :) Then there was Tofo...seriously...such a fun place. Kinda like J-Bay...with the beachy vibe. The sea was great...got some color...met some Americans...its so weird when I come across an American here....we are so far from home...and its definetly not often!

Other than that...Saffron and I have been on the go-go-go! We leave for Tanzania tommorow...get there late at night. We are going to be there for about 21days...lots of cool stuff to do! Woo-hoo!

My worst nightmare came true....
Well, so we have FINALLY arrived back in South Africa for 2 nights...we have a connecting flight to Mozambique here in Johannesburg....but I wasnt sure we were actually going to make it ALIVE...!!!!!

So, as you guys saw in the video...Madagascar is quite the lovely country....hard at times yes, but amazing and challenging at the same time. The final week in Madagascar...I went whale watching...it was unbelievable! They were so close to the boat and you could hear them calling to eachother...it was unreal and magical. I have never seen anything like it. I also spotted some fury lemurs pouncing around from tree to tree....you cant go to Madagascar and not see some lemurs. Not a huge fan of the crazy insects running around...but it was fun. No lie...I had a camelian in my bathroom...right next to my shower. I made a friend!

So, yesterday..we had a 5am flight here to Johannsesburg. We woke up bright and eary at 3am...sat around for a few hours untill we boarded the plane. Saffron and I both had a weird feeling before getting on...but I didnt say anything cause as you know...im not the biggest fan of flying...so I just figured it was my nerves. Anyways...1hr into the flight (over the ocean) we were just dozing off and my ears began to pop and I felt these stabbing pains in the back of my neck. I literally opened my eyes and before i knew it...the oxygen bags came down and the smell of smoke filled the plane and we started to desend!!!! I looked at Saffron and my eyes immediatly filled with tears...i didnt even put my mask on at first...I didnt know what was happening. Saffron...bless her heart, was the calm one and she kept on saying....its going to be okay...WHAT IS GOING ON??? We both later on admitted that in the first few minutes we thought we were going to go down....between the smoke, the plane and the masks....it had all the props for the perfect movie crash. However, the plane came to a steady level. It wasnt shaking and we werent being tossed around...yet the smoke was still there. Before we knew it....the flight attendants were going up and down the aisle...telling us that we had lost cabin pressure and we were turning back to Madagascar and that we are going to fly at a low altitude so we can all breath.

We had an hour flight back to Antanarivo...its a 3.5 hr flight to Jo'berg and it was too far to continue on. So we sat there...talking to eachother...Saffron was calming my nerves town...I literally was shaking and I just kept on thinking...okay so the pressure is gone...we have an hour left...surely something else can happen. Thankfully that wasnt true....and 45 minutes later...we landed safely on the ground...air masks dangling in front of our faces...people clapping as we hit the runway.

Of course...we had to get back...I didnt not want to stay there another night if there was another flight. We waited till 2pm...and we boarded a HUGE plane back. The ones you take internationally. The funniest part was when they were doing the oxygen mask demonstration...everyone just laughed... We were like..."Been there. Done that! " haha :) We had some cocktails on the flight...put on our IPODS and passed out after the first hour. As long as I made it that far...I could rest easy.

So, we are here in Jo'berg. Resting up...I slept the second I hit the pillow.

So all in all...Madagascar was well??? Not sure how I can explain it...amazing and beautiful...scary and helpless. Between an illness, a flight from hell, french food, lemurs, beaches, breakdowns, bug bites and whales..it was a quite the journey. But....it truely is a great counrty and Im happy to be around civilization, the internet and on the ground!

we leave madagascar soon... and are heqding to mozambique. soon i can post pics and watch the videos...yeah!!!!!

but i just wanted to say hi to everyone and the other travellers!!!! xoxoxoxo

im gonna now go practice my french and try and pay the nice lady here at the internet who so kindly told me to unplug my earphones...twice....not sure why??? but ok!!! :)

Well im just going around to all my fellow gappies trying to catch up on the goss...

Its really hard to find a computer in South America that is updated and has flash player so that i can watch the vids...the last one i saw of yours was when you were in Paradise LOL...or is that the latest :L :L :L

Im in Ecuador at the moment, cant really say much because we havent done anything yet, just arrived a few days ago...tomorrow im off for some volunteering project in the cloud forest...should be fun...

I'm just embrancing the gap year. Been getting some attention from female viewers now that my hair has grown back and I've a bit of a tan so I'm trying to work up a fan base anyway I can... the more people tuning in regularly the more success we'll see with the Gap Year and I really want to see this project take off! I try to write back and respond to every message and comment I get (if there's anything to answer). The show is based on a social network site afterall!

I talked to your mom on MSN by the way. Your account back home must be launching automatically when the computer is booted! hehe
