Full-time Careers Advisers (2 posts)
Careers Service
£33,779-£42,791

During the academic year 2007-8 two long-serving careers advisers will be retiring from Cambridge University Careers Service. The Service is therefore looking for two people with a strong interest in students and their futures to work as full-time Careers Advisers, helping students in all disciplines and specialising in some combination of the following career areas: public sector, government and civil service; teaching; the media; the arts; marketing and advertising; law; finance. The successful candidates will join the busy Careers Service team (11 advisers and 27 other staff) serving Cambridge students and graduates and their employers. Candidates should have a degree, substantial work experience and ideally a working background in one or more of the sectors listed.

Essential personal qualities include enthusiasm, curiosity, objectivity and the ability to switch tasks frequently. Above all, the post-holders will need to be outgoing, to like people, and to be able to work under pressure, both independently and in a group. Appointment is for a probationary period of 9 months and thereafter to retiring age subject to satisfactory performance during the probationary period. The posts are available from Spring 2008.

This is an unusual job. It is essential before applying to obtain further details by telephoning the Careers Service, 01223 766067, or by emailing Isabel Evans at IsabelEvans@careers.cam.ac.uk.
Interviews will be held on 12th and 13th December 2007. Closing date: 23 November 2007.
