2007, eh? It's been pretty good. I don't usually write a summary of many years, but this kind of deserves it, I think. I like concise paragraphs that only focus on one element, so I'm going to do that instead of a regular blog entry thing.Best game- I could do a cop-out and say "MetalGear 2: Solid Snake" since I bought another copy this year, but I'd rather focus on a new game. For that, I'd probably have to say Resident Evil 4 on the Wii. I'd stolen Dylan Manson's GameCube copy, and I bought the PS2 version, but the Wii game is the first I found myself really addicted to. I must have completed this around 6 times since I bought it in summer. The ability to move your hand and physically aim your gun makes as big a difference to the game as the camera angle did. It's been around 2 years since the game first came out, and it still looks incredible. Well done, Capcom. (Runners up- Super Mario Galaxy, skate) Best album- Again, this is for an album that was released this year, rather than an old one that I'd bought (as I'd bought most of The Who's best albums on Vinyl). I'm going to say "Icky Thump" by The White Stripes. It's not anywhere near as good as "Elephant" or "De Stijl", but it's far better than "Get Behind Me Satan". It's iffy in places, but the high points can sit alongside the band's best. (Runners up- Traveling Wilburys Vol. 1, The Good The Bad & The Queen) Best band I'd got into- It'd have to be The Doors. I bought their first album in 2006, but saying that I was a big fan of the band by that point is pushing it a little. I bought the Perception Box-set when I'd seen it for sale in Grooves, and decided to throw some money at it. By the time I'd listened to Morrison Hotel, I was completely addicted. I've listened to pretty much everything that the band's recorded now, and it's barely been 10 months since I first really listened to them. I know around 80% of the band's songs inside-out, now. I haven't listened to a band so much since I got into The Who. (Runners up- Traveling Wilburys, Bo Diddley) Best event- Going to Osaka. I'm sure that's what I'll remember 2007 for in years to come. I've wanted to go to Japan since I was around 5 years old, and my time there satisfied all my expectations. Den Den Town is the greatest place I've ever been to, and I'd be surprised if anything could ever beat it. Considering how little it felt like I was doing, I've got a hell of a lot of fond memories of Osaka. My only real ambition, at the moment, is to go back there. (Runners up- Gig-Fest 2007/Gig-Fest 2, Quitting Somerfield) Looking back at it all, it's been a really strange year. I've been incredibly lazy, but I can't think of any time where I got more done. No idea what 2008's going to be like (the second half, at least). Just hope I can get a job soon and that I don't have to worry about how to pay the rent/taxes. Anyone who bothered reading all this introspective shite has my condolences, and I wish you a Merry Christmas. | |||
