Hi Guys,A couple of slices of news, in what will be the final Freedom Challenge mailout for 2008! It’s been a wonderful challenge, thank you all so much for the amazing work you’ve done. Aside from being truly inspirational, the pressure has been felt by China, and throughout the course of the Olympics we continued to see their efforts to have the games seen in a positive light by the rest of the world. A full round up of the Challenge, complete with your stories and some from China, will be in term 4’s ACTIVE. Before we get to Freedom Challenge though, two campaigning bulletins which you can distribute: Asia Pacific Youth Network... If you’re interested in finding out what other Amnesty youth sectors are getting up to outside of New Zealand, join the Asia Pacific Youth Network groups on Facebook and online social action website Ammado. This is a chance to network with other like-minded activists in the Asia-Pacific region, share ideas and information and contribute to global campaigning. The aim of the APYN is to connect with 20,000 young people in the region in issues relating to human rights, and as a part of this goal they are reaching out through off and online communities. The group regularly posts the most up to date information on campaigning actions both bygone and upcoming, and news bulletins and short reports on current affairs. Material such as videos, links and online petitions is also accessible via the page. Asia Pacific Youth Network groups online: Facebook - http://www.new.facebook.com/posted.p... The Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) Week of Action started on Monday 16 September. There are events taking place in over 65 countries and we expect this number to grow as people around the world show their support for an Arms Trade Treaty. Throughout 2008, a group of experts from 28 countries has been meeting (including at one conference in Wellington in February) to discuss the content of the treaty. Now is the time to turn words into action and deliver an Arms Trade Treaty strong enough to save lives and stop irresponsible arms sales. • Play our game and spread the word. http://www.controlarms.org/en/games/... • Update on Actions which have already taken place - India, Bangladesh and Sudan http://www.controlarms.org/en/events... • Download the campaigning material for the “World is Watching” www.iansa.org/campaigns_events/WoA20... • Promote this campaign on Facebook by posting this special link http://att.amnesty.org/facebook onto walls and discussion boards • Banners which you can add to your websites and blogs http://att.amnesty.org/banners/verti... http://att.amnesty.org/banners/full-... http://att.amnesty.org/banners/recta...
