1. How long have you been in oz and why would having a marae in sydney be important to you?

2. Do you have any skills or talents that you feel could aid with the project?

3. Where do you think the marae should be built?

My Whanau have been here now for 18 years
and I think our Marae should be situated
somewhere in the middle so it is central for all
and definitely near transport for those who don't drive.
As for talent have to get back to you on that
same with any idea's but i'll think of something
I know Uncle Mano Tairi will have lots of idea's

We have been here going on 7 years (not long compared to others).

This Marae/Community Centre will be a place where we can gather, meet, eat, bring our families from NZ, mourn our dead, learn tikanga, sing, laugh, cry, talk (the list goes on) and that we can call our own.

As for the location, I would say it would have to be where the land is affordable which is a big ask in Sydney. Actually it doesn't matter where it is really, cause if we have to get there we will find a way.

Talents? Next question....

KiaOra My name is Richard Toi & i've been living in Sydney 22 yrs. I think it is very important to have a marae moreso in Sydney now then ever because we need to have something to identify us as who we are Maori !!! I think it is important for the children that have been born here and still living here to have something to identify them selves with.
As for skills & talents i have been working as a boilermaker for more then 28yrs & would like to assist in that area maybe a little bit later on as a koha ! Talents i'll speak about that maybe next time.
Marae location any where as long as we have a marae.

Kia Ora,
Me and my whanau have been living in and out of sydney for about 15 years now, and love every bit of it!
having a marae here is a great idea to show our children our history, my father has taught us that no matter what country you are in that we should always teach our children about our maori people, other wise the maori culture as we know will vanish in the wind,
i have half greek children and it will be great to have a kohanga (excuse my spelling) incorperated into the marae to teach them our language! it'll be awesome!
I really think the marae should be built in the lidcombe area, as it is close to the cfmeu building,
a very central place!
i would also like to thank the cfmeu because without them this project wouldn't have as many contacts, the cfmeu has brought our people in australia back to life!
alot of respect and thanks to them!
aroha nui... Christina Keenan

Tena koutou katoa,

Born and bred in Sydney but maintain a strong link to Aotearoa through my whakapapa. This marae is needed, not only as a place to hold hold hui and tangi's but as a place that Aussie-born Maoris can call their own - somewhere to belong.

I'm a school teacher by trade and I would love to assist the marae appeal in some capacity. My elder brother Kris (www.kriskerehona.com) is a film/television producer, and we may be able to document the marae's aims, goals and development in the form of a documentary - not only to assist in gaining support, but also as a record or legacy of the project.

Anyway, all my aroha toward everyone involved in this project - this will be a taonga for all of us.

Ma pango ma whero ka tutuki ai te mahi
