	A LITTLE BIT OF INFO ON AUSTRALIA DAY Australia day is the official national holiday of Australia. It commemorates the establishment of a settlement and penal colony at Port Jackson by Captain Arthur Phillip who later became the first Governor. Australia Day is an official public holiday in all states and territories of Australia On Australia Day, the Prime Minister announces the winner of the Australian of the Year award. The award is given to any Australian citizen who has shown a ‘ significant contribution to the Australian community and nation’ and is an ‘ inspirational role model for the Australian community’. I hear Adam was a close runner up this year. It all started back in 1788 and although some people want the date of Australia day to change to Anzac Day or January 1st (When Australia’s six colonies federated into one nation) this is the one-day where all Australians come together to celebrate all things Australian. WHAT ARE WE DOING TO CELEBRATE AUSTRALIA DAY?? Fosters are giving away hats and beach balls to those who buy a pint of…yeah you guessed it Fosters. We also have a band on at 6pm called Duke, who I’m, sure, will rock. DJ’s are on from 6pm and we have a Surfboard Simulator. Whoever stays on the surfboard the longest will win the Fosters Twist fridge. The draw will be made at midnight. Anzac biscuits have been made which are a favourite in Oz and we will be playing Australian tunes, the 4th test against India will be on too and we have loads of Australian flags to give out too.
