May Review of Archie's Pizza Restuarant, 61 Davis Crescent, Newmarket - Friday 31 May 2008530 days ago

... Well its been almost 2 weeks since lunch, but the bad memories linger still, pity I can't make sense of my hastily scribbled notes :L :L :L ... So here goes nothin'... It was a very busy Friday lunch-time - the place was full of patrons - which is normally a good sign....Tash pre-booked our table and pre-ordered our meals but we still had to wait... actually the meals were waiting in take-away boxes - communication breakdown???? Luckily there were spare tables for us.. because we still had to wait, and wait, and wait... did I mention the service sucked?

Pip had Prosciutto cotto e Funghi Pizza (Prosciutto ham, field mushrooms, tomato parmesan & mozzarella) - it was barely warm (probably all that waiting in the take-away box) The pizza was bland - suprisingly un-spicy, lots of tomato, not enough cheese. Rating: 6/10. On the good side, Pip did like the music - Elvis Rocks don't ya know.

V and Mia both had Polo e Pesto Pizza (Chicken, pesto, zucchini, pine nuts & mozzarella) which they found good, a bit oily but tasty, and of course luke-warm. Mia said that her Vodka and Lemonade had too much Vodka... We all looked at her in confusion, as this would not normally be considered a bad thing :L :L :L Vika found the meal not that filling because she ate again at work within the hour :O :O :O
Rating: a charitable 7/10 (for both I think - can't read my notes :D :D :D )

The above three were lucky enough to actually have their meals served to them on plates... the rest of us were waiting for soooo long (i.e. a 40 minute wait... for pre-ordered food) that when they finally decided to give us some food, it came in foil take-away boxes :( :( :( .... at least the food was hotter..

Tash wisely decided to have a drink before her meal arrived... Mind you, she had to go searching for a waitress, any waitress, to take her order... about 15 minutes later she got her Kahlua - which was very nice but wasn't big enough to drown the hunger pangs. Tash had the Cajun Chicken Salad, (Sauteed chicken strips with Cajun spice served on mesculin salad with green beans in a vinaigrette) which she said (with great disgust) was mostly rabbit food, not enough chicken, no dressing. Rating: 2/10

Dazyd had the Penne Pollo (Fresh chicken breast strips, mushrooms, garlic olive oil, fresh herbs, parmesan cheese in a fresh creamy sauce) and Garlic Bread. The pasta was served hot, and tasted very good - I woz garnt peelivit!!! The sauce wasn't as thicky and creamy as she would have liked, but overall, very nice. the Garlic Bread wasn't as good, lots of garlic (yum) but cold. Rating 7/10

Lakai had the Panfried Seafood Salad (Fresh mussels, fillet of fresh fish, scallops, calamari, pan fried in white wine, lemon juice, fresh garlic, capers, served with tartare sauce on a seasonal green salad) - yummm, doesn't that sound wonderful?? L got there about 20 minutes late... but still had to wait another 20 minutes for the food... which was bland with a tastless sauce. But she enjoyed helping Dazyd eat her Garlic Bread. She also had to ask (twice) for cutlery and a glass of water, which was rather poor. Rating: 5/10

In conclusion: Poor communication (some of the staff had very poor English) and even poorer organization and surly customer service ruined what could have been a very pleasant lunch. The lunchtime menu was recommended to us by several friends, and indeed some of us had lunched and dined at Archie's in the past.... Perhaps this was just a one-off bad experience.....

Would we recommend Archies - home of 'The Best Pizza in All The World'????.......HELLLLLL NOOOOO!!!!

Go McD's or BK - the service is faster, friendlier and most of the food tastes better
