Confederate Flag, Conservatism, and Fundamentalism---Is Ignorance Really Bliss?
By Johnny Lee Clary

I can't begin to count how many times people have said to others that I must still be in the KKK because I either defend the Confederate flag, vote Republican, identify myself as a Conservative, or that I believe in biblical fundamentalism. It is sad that these people have so much bigotry and prejudice within their own beliefs that they are too stupid to pick up a history book, a political platform, or the Holy Bible and find out what it is all about.

First of all on the Confederate flag issue, the ones who say I am still in the KKK because I respect and honor the Confederate flag, are really ignorant when it comes to the history behind it. They probably didn’t bother to study the FACT that over 30,000 African American soldiers died in the war Between The States VOLUNTARILY defending the South and carrying that flag. No, they are too busy believing the ignorant propaganda that the South fought the war so they could own slaves and beat up Black people instead of learning what the real facts are.

Yes there were people in the South who owned slaves and slavery was wrong. However, how much better was the North when they said they wanted to free the slaves but when the slaves were freed and came to the North they were discriminated against and forcibly segregated into ghettos and projects? There they were forced into a life of poverty and lack of education while the Northerners sent their kids to the best schools and didn’t want Blacks assimilating into society as the White people’s equals. By denying Black people good jobs and equal education, many Blacks felt forced to turn to a life of crime due to the discrimination they received from the North. Many Black people returned to the South once they saw they were not welcome by those who set them free from slavery. Another fact that Northerners do not want to point out is the underground railroad did not go to the northern states, it went to Canada because they knew the north would either enslave them or send them back to their masters in the south. Many of the freed slaves were in fact enslaved by the North economically by being denied decent paying jobs, equal educational opportunities, or homes in areas other than the ghettos.

Wouldn’t you say it was just a little hypocritical of the North to condemn the South for slavery, while all the time the North was operating “sweat shops” where they used child labor forcing children as young as six years old to work for 12-14 hours manual labor until many of them either dropped over sick or dead from exhaustion? The North did this both prior to the war and continued this brutal practice many years after the war had ended.

Only 3% of the South owned Slaves. 97% of the South did not own slaves. Why would 97% of people who either couldn’t afford to own slaves or didn’t believe in slavery fight a war which saw their homes, families and beloved land destroyed so that 3% of the rich elitists and aristocrats could own slaves? The answer is: they wouldn’t. The people of the South fought a war against Northern Aggression because they saw the USA being governed in a different direction than what was originally intended by our forefathers who founded this nation. The North believed in a strong central federal government rule where the federal government held the power and could make the rules and override any rules they didn’t agree with that the individual states might enact as laws. The South on the other hand, believed in States Rights, which meant that the people ruled in each individual state and if Washington DC passed any laws which came in conflict with the will of the people of each state, then the individual states could override Washington DC. Webster’s dictionary also defines ‘States Rights’ as “The political position advocating strict interpretation of the Constitution with regard to the limitation of federal powers and the extension of the autonomy of the individual state to the greatest possible degree.” That was why the War between the States was fought. It was not fought for the right of people to own slaves.

Article II of the Articles Of Confederation, which is the original Constitution of the United States of America, asserts the equality of the separate states with the confederation government, i.e. "Each state retains its sovereignty, freedom, and independence, and every power, jurisdiction, and right, which is not by this Confederation expressly delegated."

The South knew that there was something wrong with the Union because the North wanted a strong aristocratic rule and wasn’t that why the Revolutionary War was fought, to avoid that type of monarchy? The South was led by descendants of the Revolutionary War who believed in freedom for all. The North and Lincoln led the war for a centralized federal government that would rule over all states. The "slavery" issue was on its way out to begin with and the northern press made it the issue. As a matter of fact, almost all leaders of the Confederacy who had owned slaves had freed their slaves prior to the war even before the war began. In many a diary kept by both northern and southern soldiers, the question was asked why the stupid media was making abolition or even bringing abolition into the war. The truth was that it was a cover for the real reason the South was fighting for freedom. The Confederate flag truly stands for Freedom. Too many uneducated people do not know this, and the reason being the North writes the history. We've been in a self-destructive pattern by our lousy politicians and liberals who rewrite history for decades. They have dictated to the people what is or isn’t politically correct.

There are those unlearned uneducated types out there that say, “The KKK flies the Confederate flag so that means it is racist and a symbol of the Klan.” They even advocate burning it or banning it. As the former Grand Wizard of the KKK I personally know what is in the Kloran, ( the handbook of bylaws for the KKK) and I know for a fact that the Confederate flag is not the official flag of the Klan. The bylaws of the Ku Klux Klan demand that two flags be present at all official Klan meetings, which are the Stars and Stripes flag of the United States of America, and the Christian flag. The Confederate flag is never mentioned.

Just because the idiots in the Klan choose to fly the Confederate flag, does not mean it is racist, no more than it means one is racist if they fly the flag of the USA or the Christian flag! Only an imbecile or total moron would disagree with that statement.

The top organizations of Southern heritage in America, such as Sons of Confederate Veterans and League of the South, make it abundantly clear that no one who advocates White Supremacy or membership in the Klan or any other White Supremacist organization are allowed to join them or attend any of their functions. Furthermore, many members of the SCV have attacked KKK members physically in the streets for holding marches where the Klan was displaying the Confederate battle flag.

H. K. Edgerton is a black Southern heritage activist and former president of the NAACP's Asheville, North Carolina branch, who is now the chairman of the board of directors of the Southern Legal Resource Center and an activist in the League of the South. He proudly carries the Confederate flag all over the South and educates people that the flag is the heritage of Black people as well as Whites, Native American Indians, and many Hispanics.

Therefore when people accuse me of all people, of being a racist because of the Confederate flag, they are showing their lack of education and just how mentally challenged they really are when it comes to history.

I like to ask Black people who insist that the Confederate flag is a symbol of racism or the KKK, just what flag has flown in the USA the longest? What flag was it that Blacks were sold under slavery to the longest? What flag was it that treated Blacks as second class citizens the longest? The Confederate flag was the official flag of power over the Southern states for only 4 years, from 1861-1865. Just what flag was it that Blacks have been denied the right to vote, and forced to live under discrimination and segregation for years and years; the Confederate flag or the Stars and Stripes of the USA? What flag has been in power since 1865; the USA or Confederate flag? What flag has flown over the employment agencies of Chicago, Los Angeles, Watts, Compton, New York City, Detroit, and many other Northern cities who have not given Black people equal job opportunities? What flag has flown over the banking buildings in those places I just mentioned as well as others that have denied Black people home, auto and personal loans? What flag was it that has flown over schools and universities that have made it difficult if not impossible for many Blacks to attend due to a lack of funds because tuition or admittance standards were set too high? So you see, if you want to compare apples for apples when it comes to which flag has represented the most suffering due to racism and discrimination, I don’t think anyone wants to go there with me!

It is the same thing when people accuse Conservatives or Republican party members of being racists. The truth of the matter is, the Democrats have had a lot more racists in positions of power in their party than the Republicans have ever had in theirs. Almost every Governor that rules over the southern states that enforced segregation were Democrats. Almost every Senator or Congressman in the South during that time were Democrats, not Republicans. Most of these politicians could have worked to do something to end segregation but didn’t. In addition to that, the Democrats are the party of the left wing liberals who believe in abortion, same sex marriage, gun control, and the removal of anything Christian being displayed in public places. The Democrats are the ones that seek to change the Constitution, by legalizing abortion, banning the name of Jesus in public schools and government buildings, putting restrictions on your 1st amendment right to freedom of speech, and taking away your constitutional right to keep and bear firearms; not Republicans. It is the Republicans who are against these things and that takes a stand for individual rights. It is easier to make the Republicans out as villains though by calling them racists because it takes the focus off of the godless liberal agenda of the Democrats and puts people who are ignorant in the mindset of “I better not vote Republican because I don’t want to be accused of being a racist!” That is pitiful that the liberals are so low that they have to stoop to those types of tactics.

When it comes to biblical fundamentalists, they too have not been spared the wrath of the liberal left wing atheist agenda in today’s society. The ‘Seeker’ or ‘User-friendly’ churches have a lot in common with the secular humanists as they preach a watered down non-threatening ‘gospel’ which is based on secular humanism and not God’s word. Liberals will hurl the infamous ‘R’ word (Racist!) at anyone who preaches the Word of God unadulterated and straight forward with no watered down gospel. That is why the secular media have demonized great men of God such as John Hagee who they demonized as a racist for taking a stand for Israel; Jimmy Swaggart who they demonized as a racist for taking a stand against same sex marriage; and the late Jerry Falwell who they demonized as a racist for urging people to take a stand against abortion, homosexuality and prayer being banned in schools; not only calling these men of God racists, but replacing them with certain contemporary seeker type preachers who preach universalism you-can-do-it-yourself messages with no hell, fire or brimstone.

Many of today’s largest Christian churches will never preach or allow a guest speaker to preach that there is a Hell and people will go there if they do not accept Christ. How many times can you recall turning on your TV and hearing a famous preacher of a mega-large church of ten thousand or more tell people they will go to hell if they refuse to accept Christ? As a matter of fact, one of the best known preachers in the world today was asked on a news show if Muslims will end up in Hell if they choose not to accept Jesus and to follow the teachings if Mohammed instead. This man replied that he didn’t know and that it was not his place to say anything. He said that was between Muslims and God and he didn’t know what God would do in that case. Although this man I am sure is a good man, the fact remains that he had a chance to preach the truth of God’s word to millions of people who were watching and he refused because he didn’t want to offend anyone. People do not like to hear the truth. Funny how people always ask for the truth but when they get it they don’t believe it because it is not what they want to hear. Jesus said in John 8:32 that it is the TRUTH that sets you free! It is not some watered down ‘gospel’ that comes from human tradition and man’s wisdom that set’s one free. The truth is, the Bible says man’s wisdom is as foolishness compared to God’s. (1 Corinthians 3:19) I don’t know about you, but I would rather get my wisdom from the Creator and not the created!

That is why the educated idiots with degrees in psychology or sociology are the ones who are screwing up this world, by creating false doctrines, false religions, and ideas based on human tradition or human wisdom rather than on God’s Word. (Col 2:8)

Now that you know the truth, stop using ignorance as an excuse. I realize there will be some that will read this and still keep those attitudes. In that case, there is none so blind as those who refuse to see.

Many say “Ignorance is bliss.” Suppose you were pulled over by the police for doing 65 in a 25 mile per hour school zone. Suppose you said to the policeman, “I didn’t know.” Do you really think that will keep you from being arrested or getting the biggest fine you could ever imagine? Is Ignorance really bliss?
