| PAUL KEOGAN ON THE LIGHTING DESIGN FOR ROMEO AND JULIET... | 638 Tage her | ||
![]() Lighting is key in setting the scenes in this production…..as very few props are used to allow scenes slide into each other quickly the lighting lets audiences know they’re in a different scene…. Inspiration for the lighting came from films such as Sin City and Blade Runner… we wanted a dark, ‘graphic novel’ look … light haze is used in the air to make the light seem solid.…. Here are some examples of how lighting is used… Act II Sc 2 - THE BALCONY SCENE But soft! What light through yonder window breaks Use of darkness and light…. …the balcony is lit and the light streams through the window from behind Juliet… adding to her radiance and beauty…. ….the rest of the stage is in darkness…allowing Romeo to hide in the shadows…. Act III Scene 5 – MORNING AFTER THEIR WEDDING NIGHT More light and light: more dark and dark our woes The light becomes the enemy…. it means that Romeo must leave Juliet…..and go to Mantua…. …light slowly fills the stage….Juliet protests but Romeo must leave… ….Juliet eventually concedes as the light continues to build in the room….. | |||
