We Messed Up... And We're Sorry!68 weeks ago
 
Dear Bebo'ers,

As you probably noticed we were out of commission for a while starting on Tuesday. We have been fortunate that in the nearly seven years that Bebo has been in operation, these glitches have been few and far between. Still, we work hard every day to keep the site constantly working and we heard from many of you -- loud and clear -- how much your lives were affected by the outage. We are both profoundly sorry and profoundly moved by the outpouring of comments on blogs, Twitter and elsewhere.

Once we had everything back up in perfect order, we realized we needed to explain what happened so Nigel from Marketing went back into storage and pulled out the Big Book of Website Excuses (2012 Edition). Among the options considered:

1. "Occupy" protesters took over Bebo.
2. Another internet company was protesting against SOPA/PIPA.
3. Time to get a new server... That Amiga 500 has gone as far as it can go.
4. Huge spike in traffic exceeded our server capacity and brought the site down.
5. Time off for the staff to watch a Harry Potter Marathon on Blu-Ray.
6. Just a publicity stunt to get more attention.
7. Government-mandated program to get users to spend more time outdoors.
8. Too many cute cat photos causes our servers to run out of disk space.
9. New policy: turn the site off one day per week to reduce greenhouse emissions.
10. It was all just a dream.

But in the end, we thought it best to just be honest and tell you the truth: we were working on some new features (pretty cool ones, I might add) and in the process we crashed the site. Embarrassing, but true. And we worked as hard as possible to restore everything as fast as we could. Unfortunately, on a site as complex as Bebo, with as many users, these things take time.

We're not going anywhere. (And even if we were, we wouldn't just disappear into the night without even saying thanks, right?) The fact is: Bebo has a fantastic future ahead and we've been working on some new things that we're truly excited about. We can't wait to share them with you, but of course we'll be a bit more careful as we roll these things out.

Thank you Adam, for all the work you and the team do for us. I can imagine there was a lot of work involved wish I was their with helping hands, you's have always been their for when I needed help with something or just a quick gossip to see that you're all ok.

So it was my turn to be here waiting for you all to be back online. I didnt get too much sunshine from the shiney ball thing in the sky.:P But anyway so glad to see bebo again, keep up the good work you're always doing from the start, very much appreciated by myself and others who feel the same way.

Only kidding, it's lovely to see you guys back on track i was literally wanting to die without my favorite site about. I miss how Bebo used to be before Facebook stole the members away...come back people! I'm glad to see you all staying strong and hopeful at TEAMBEBO and in all honesty you guys rawwwwk!

Bebo will always live on for me no matter whether it's active or down, i got where i am today thanks to this site so i wouldn't ever leave it and i started skins again as i realized that i missed them after i stopped making them for nearly 2 years ...absolute torture :O

if people dont like the site then delete your page let us that do use bebo and love bebo alone to get on with it dont discredit bebo just because you dont like it there are still some die hard fans here yet that love bebo

#bebomemories was the number 1 worldwide trend on twitter;
that in itself shows how massive bebo was, and infact still is/can be.

Due to roleplaying that i do; i was gutted when the site went down. been on bebo since early 06; roleplaying since the "wrestling roleplaying" began here in october 2006. always have been here, always will.

good to see we're stll afloat!

Can you say withdraw? :L I had such a hard time the whole time it was down, seeing as how I roleplay on here, I was crushed when I thought that all my friends and I wouldn't be able to talk again. I live in the USA, and I know a lot of people who are on here that are from the UK, Ireland and so on...so when the site crashed for a few hours, I was missing my friends. Please bebo, don't leave us again! We all were so sad when you crashed.
And yes, there are still a ton of people who get on here, for the person who said they couldn't believe bebo still had a following. You got on,didn't you? Did you honestly think you were the only one still here? :L

I found out by BBC News, on their website about that it had "Shut down". And that you guys were having technical difficulties. I wasn't too fussed about it, but glad to know that you're working on some cool stuff!

Top 10 excuses for a crash website, I love them!

So I call myself a bebo original, I was one of the people to test out bebo & share the site with friends, bebo started back in 2005, I joined just shy of a year, back then it was really small but I have watched it grow, I've seen issues & I've seen great ideas.

I got many to join mainly family but also friends, I've helped many people, some strangers with the knowledge and experience I've gained through my 5-6 years as a member.

I'm excited to see what the future holds for bebo, I'm going to be here to witness great things as I have faith in the new team and know to expect great things and of course I'm here again as a support person for my friends!

I speak for many when I say, you were missed Bebo, welcome back!

The Harry Potter excuse was truly brilliant.

Bebo has become the home of roleplaying, and I would have been lost without it (and I was, for a short period of time). I'm so glad that you're back to normal! Cant wait to see these new features!

Really chuffed to see bebo back online, i didnt think yous had pulled the plug on the site! Just gotta work hard bebo and attract everyoneback to this site and compete at the top with facebook, yous manage to compete with myspace a few years ago so lets hope your new designs and ideas get you more fans and more users! long live bebo [b]

this is so sweet, being honest and telling us what happened! :* :D love the excuses haha :L bet Facebook wouldn't do this. Not liking Facebook much atm. I've been on bebo for years and years and I'm not giving it up:) and is it just me or is Facebook copying Bebo by letting people put their own picture on the top of their profile like a bebo skin? :o anyway, love you bebo :*

That was brave of bebo and It took a lot of guts for bebo to stand up and being honest with what happened, but humans make mistakes and learn. I agree with you fb would not, and the staff dont interact with members, it just questions asked and get an answer.

The timeline on facbook overall looks like bebos image only layout, with each module under the picture. My dad hates the timeline layout, apprently it cant be changed back I heard, I says did you know bebo all together has 8 layouts? He looked shocked.

I asked him also about the photos moving 1 album to another, he didnt even know either and uses facebook every day. :O I asked my friends it was like "emmm" kind of thing honestly right hand to god, nobody could give me a straight answer to moving photos.:O

The help search is awful, pages of stuff comes up. People dont always have the patients to sit and look everywere for answers. To contact personally it took me ages to even find link and at the same time never replied. :O :O

Phew! ^^; I'm soooooooo glad and happy to see bebo up and running again :)) I got extremely worried about it. Been looking through those comments on Twitter and don't like what some people say about bebo.

But anyway, bebo is cool, amazing, very easy to use, simple, laid out all organised and you can do absolutely anything on it. Like, give love to friends, customise your profile in anyway style or way you want it, organise your photos, play your favourite videos on your profile ect: and what does Facebook, Twitter, Myspace or whatever let you do? None of those things for sure.

They are just so boring, confusing to move about and takes ages figuring about to look for stuff but you bebo are just simply amazing! So, keep up the fabulas work and just try and attract more people to use the amazing site.

Your the best ever bebo!
Without you I wouldn't have met the amazing friends that I made :D so thank you so much :))
