As many of you will already be aware, following extended disputes with the landlords over their interference in our business practices, the Rotterdam Bar and Pat's Bar is no longer anything to do with the Roddy / Martyn partnership.

Control of the bars have now been handed back to Mr. Arthur Mooney, a rather inaffable Belfast hotelier and property developer who intends to demolish both of the buildings the minute he has all the relevant planning permissions in place. I hear he now also owns The Rosetta and has similar plans for more apartments on that site!

Having had a look at the planning application, it seems that the objections to the proposed development by the DOE, Belfast City Council and Belfast Harbour Commissioners are the reason why their building programme is moving at a slow pace. There are letters in the planning file from experts in the relevant fields stating that the building is of no real archaeological interest. Historic Buildings also state that the building is not unique in structure. It has to be noted that here are no comments on the 29 (only 29? How so?) objections on the grounds of social history initiated by Ludwig and his campaigners whom, I might add, we wholeheartedly support. So the idea that the bar was 'saved' by the efforts of the Save The Rotterdam campaign is unfounded.
I keep hearing whispers that we are involved in some malicious rumour to try to discredit the current goings on in the bar. Not so. Those who know us are well aware that we don't easily engage in negativity and are putting our combined energies into getting a business up an running again in another location. Just like all the rest of you, its the music that drives us.

Once again we would like to wholeheartedly thank everyone who has supported our efforts to keep the Rotterdam music scene up to the standard that we achieved in the last ten months. Especially the musicians both established and beginners. Believe me when I say that we did our utmost to offer them all the hospitality and respect that they deserve and we wish them all the best in their futures. We also give heartfelt thanks to the staff who kept the engines running and the fire burning, sometimes against all the odds (anyone wanna go down the sewers?!!). But it would never have gotten off the ground without the support of the public, regulars and otherwise, who were the lifeblood of our business.

IF YOU HOLD TICKETS FOR ANY CANCELLED EVENTS, PLEASE GET IN TOUCH VIA MYSPACE AND WE WILL ARRANGE A REFUND.
