So this idea is kinda stolen from Taking Chase but I thought I'd just sum up the first full year of Cole Appleyard over a short blog now that it's almost over and in the process say thanks to those who have helped us out over the course! We essentially spent January to early May writing and rehearsing in a bid to be ready for our first gig - The Bon Scott Tribute Day @ Kirrie Town Hall. Being part of such a belting day was a great way for us to start gigging plus we got to play with Taking Chase and Sonnet65 amongst others! Cheers to DD8 Music for that one. Late May saw the onslaught of the State of Affairs/Cole Appleyard Scottish tour as we hit Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen and Dundee playing with My Own Religion, The Hijacks, Tragical History Tour and James Keegans over the course - good times! Cheers to SOA for the banter, to all who booked us, and to Andy for letting us crash at his in Glasgow to party for Kieran's 21st at the QMU! June was pretty quiet with only the Dundee leg of the tour plus a show with The Kevins at Drouthies to speak of, but things started to pick up again over the summer months with July featuring gigs at Kirrimuir Guide Hall, The Westport Bar, Drouthies again, a packed out gig at Cafe Drummonds in Aberdeen (the highlight of the month), shortly followed by a trip to Glasgow to play at Campus East. In amongst this we also recorded 4 tracks with Robin Sutherland which are up on this page. August was the month Cole Appleyard hit England, firing straight down from a show at Drouthie Neebors to The Shed in Leicester where we played with the wonderful Make It Better Later, followed by a drunken night in Northampton, an empty Purple Turtle in Camden, two fantastic days in Brighton, an amazing Living Bar in Brixton with Todger, who managed to blow everyone away, and a packed Hertford Marquee with Overthrow and JB and The Gang, who ended their set by playing 500 Miles featuring a bit of Appleyard! When we got back up another gig in Drouthies was headlined by The Xcerts with SOA and The Boy Orchestra also playing - not a bad way to end the summer! September had us up in Aberdeen again, this time with Hearts Under Fire, The Don Ramos Players and Tragical History Tour @ the Tunnels and was also the first time we played Fat Sams in Dundee, providing the main support to Failsafe. October had another debut for us, this time at the Doghouse for the Oxjam Littlest Festival. A great night for a great cause! We were also back down in Edinburgh w/ Taking Chase and The Hijacks @ Bannermans and in Fatties w/ Make Model and The Xcerts (who simply blew everyone away!) and played a cheeky wee halloween gig at Satchmos with Chiaro. November only saw us get stupidly drunk at the Megabowl, but December brought the year to a nice close, playing Drouthies in the Dundee Uni Battle of the Bands, (literally) hitting Satchmos for the Hijacks record release show w/ State of Affairs, The Hijacks, Contra + Tragical History Tour, stopping off at the Guide Hall in Kirrie to play with Sonnet65 and State of Affairs and hitting the Westport Bar with Chiaro and Xander Duffy before winding the year up supporting Drive By Argument @ Fatties again! Special thank yous should really go to State of Affairs, Andy Hyslop, Davey and Morven, Emily, Ewen, Meg and Nelson, Taking Chase, The Hijacks and DD8 Music. Plus of course those who I must've forgotten who have helped us out by driving us, letting us stay with them, or, most importantly, by coming to see us! Good times! See you in 2008! | |||
