Blood Ban Campaign Update811 días hace

The USI LGBT Campaign, strongly believes that the blanket, and lifetime, ban on blood donations from gay and bisexual men should be removed. We believe that discriminating against a group of
society based on a stereotype is wrong. Furthermore, the policy of the IBTS further pushes the idea that HIV/AIDS is a ‘gay disease’. The current criteria for blood donations centres around perceived risk of an entire group.

The USI LGBT Campaign is pushing for a system to be implemented based on actual risk. The LGBT community is very diverse and different people live in very different ways. It is wrong to assume that everyone is automatically high-risk and therefore wrong to automatically ban every gay and bisexual man from giving blood.

Other countries, including EU countries subject to the same European legislation as the UK, have already lifted the ban on donations from gay and bisexual men citing epidemiological evidence and discrimination as the primary reasons for this change in policy.

Its time for a change in Ireland!!!

Our campaign will be launched this November, make sure your Students Union gets involved

I don't understand why they are saying that gay and bisexual men are not allowed to donate...They screen everyones blood for HIV/AIDS it doesn't matter if your GLBT or straight anyone can catch it...Theres already enough crap to go against the Gay and Bisexual communities as it is...I think certin questions shouldn't be asked in the questionare when going to donate.....In the Australian questionare is states "have you had male to male sex" and "Have you had sex with someone that may be bisexual and could be infected with HIV/AIDS"...... I don't understand why they would give a s*it when the blood is going to be screened anyway.........................
