Valentino Rossi produced one of the greatest Moto GP laps of all time to take a dominant pole position for the Chinese Grand Prix - blowing his rivals into the weeds in the process.

The 28-year-old Italian lapped the Shanghai circuit in 1:58.424 on his Yamaha - half a second under Dani Pedrosa's qualifying lap record of 2006 - which was enough to give him his 38th pole.
