Well I've been in Fort McMurray almost 3 months and just started my 3rd job on Monday. The guy I was steaming for was a bit dodgy with the pay and I didn't want to get into trouble...especially seeing as I'm going to apply for Canadian residency. So...Last week I started the job hunt all over again. Tuesday morning I went for an interview at Golosky Trucking Company and also faxed my resume to Cross Contracting. Tuesday afternoon Golosky called me and offered me the job...and an hour later Cross called me offering me heaps more money and better shifts...without ever having met me and without me having any experience driving Haul Trucks. Oh the beauty of living in Fort McMurray.....siiigghh...Wednesday morning I called the guy from Golosky to let him know I won't be taking the job...and Wednesday afternoon he called me up and invited me to dinner on Friday. Definitely the nicest guy I've met in a long long loooooooooong time...but I'll be leaving it at that So Mon, Tues and Wed this week I was in training...Thursday we were on lightning alert for most of the day, so I only got to do one load all by myself. And not just any load...we had to back up a ramp only slightly wider than the truck, with the main slurry pipe on one side and a drop on the other side. Oh, did I mention we had to back up around a bend too?!!!! I had so much adrenalin in my system it was unreal. Was pretty stoked with myself when it was all said and done though. Friday we turned up to work and everything was under water thanks to the storm the night before, so we got sent home unfortunately (still get paid for 3 hours). Oh, I should mention that this is a union job, so they pay us ridiculous amounts of money, time and a half after 8 hours a day (we work 11.5 hrs a day) and time and a half on the weekends!!! I still can't believe my luck!!! I like to think I deserve it though. Today is Saturday and unfortunately everything is still soaked, so we got sent home again which really sucks, especially seeing as it's a time and half day, and next weekend we have off (because of our 11 on, 3 off shift). Next weekend Chris and I are going to Edmonton for a bit of shopping. It'll be the first time I've been outside Fort Mac in the 3 months I've been here, so I'm really looking forward to it. So hopefully I'll be pretty well off after working here for a few months...if we ever get to work that is!!! Yes, I'm just slightly sour Should get my 2nd working holiday visa in about a month, so I'm stoked!!! Umm...really haven't been up to much else here. Went rollerblading the other day and ended up with huge blisters on the arches of my feet. Oh what an exciting life I lead...it's so much like Fernie....NOOOOTTT | |||
