Niamh McCourt, Jaséon Robinson, Conor O'Neil and Scott Walker make up Princess Alaska, a Derry based alternative punk/rock band.

Formed in March this year, the guys have moved fast in writing their own material and finding and playing as many gigs as possible. They started out with the name Princess A La Ska but as the novelty wore off, they decided a more serious approach was required. Princess Alaska was born.

We recently qualified for the BT Sounds Like Summer competition in Strabane which is a big deal for us right now and if we did win, it would mean so much because music is what we all want to do and it would be a great boost for us.

"We are continuing to grow as a band and have a lot of fresh new material. Hopefully this time next year we will be quite well known in Derry and possibly the rest of Northern Ireland."

Good luck to the Princess Alaska team in this year's contest.

i just wanted dey give everyone whos interested a wee quick update about what Princess are actually up to at the minute.

right....... let me think.......well first off we're still writing as usual, we've got another song recorded and it should be up on the bebo and myspace soon, so look out for it! umm...i think were calling it 'thought you had it' or at least that was the best i could come up with when jaseon gave me like 5mins dey think of a name!! haha. also we've now got a song up for free download on the NI chart, so check it out its 'i do it right', so EVERYONE DOWNLOAD IT!!! and get everyone you know to do the same thing! the link is:
