| Escape Into The Park introducing.........Bionic!! | 199 dni temu | ||
Escape Into The Park strives to improve year and year and after the immense amount of requests to get Bionic involved with the festival we thought this year it just had to be done. Now widely recognised as Wales' most popular Hardstyle event, it's reputation continues to grow. Here I sat down with one of Bionic's promoters and one half of Cally & Juice.....Cally. EITP - Tell us when and how your brand came about………. CALLY - Well Bionic is almost 9 years old so the when is quite easy to answer. As for the how, I used to run the hard dance department at Catapult 100% Vinyl, Brian M used to come in and buy tunes from me. He told me he was thinking of starting up his own event and a few people had told him it would be a good idea to get me involved as I had a lot of contacts and experience in the industry and was also DJing at the time. Back then there were a lot of politics in Cardiff and although myself and Mr Juice were gigging every weekend, Cardiff was one of the places we couldn’t get gigs because of these politics, so I was keen to start up this venture with Brian, which then meant we could play in my local area on a regular basis. EITP - What would you say is your favourite memory from over the years? CALLY - There have been so many. Many of the places I dreamed of DJing years ago have since become a reality. I think my favourite memory though is from playing at Swansea’s Escape Into The Park Festival in 2007. Every year it is our favourite date in the diary. Playing to so many of your home crowd is really an emotional experience. The Welsh crowd has to be the most frenzied and up for it crowd in the world and when you’re from Wales and you know so many of the people in the crowd, the atmosphere reaches fever pitch! Every year it gets better and last year was amazing but ’07 is the one for me that sticks in my head as the arena was at capacity from start to finish...and we were only playing the second hour! EITP - What about your worst? CALLY - Luckily there’s not many of these. I think I’d have to say the worst was playing at a festival at Coopers Field in Cardiff. As it was run in association with the council they couldn’t break their own rules on fly-posting, so the event was hardly promoted. The turn-out was awful and when we went on to play there were just 4 people in our arena. Rather than get all high and mighty though and storm off though, we played our asses off to the 4 people who were there and got plenty of cheering from them at the end, ha-ha. I think they appreciated the fact that whether it was 4 or 4,000 in that arena we still gave 110%. EITP - If you were to assemble your dream line up, who would be in it? CALLY - Good question, hmm...ok this would probably change if you asked me again but I’ll say The Prodigy (headlining), Headhunterz, Showtek, Activator, Technoboy, Pendulum live and us of course, lol. EITP - What would be the most important thing you have learnt from being a promoter? CALLY - Let people see that their ticket money has been well spent, in other words don’t skimp on production etc, and never ever cancel DJs to save some money (as many promoters do). In the history of Bionic only a handful of acts have ever not been able to make it and every time we replace them with someone of equal standing. When people come to our events they know they can expect what’s on the flyer, and more. EITP - Tell us a funny story that has happened at one of your events…….. CALLY - I guess one of the funniest I can think of off the top of my head is when our host (MC) Shocker was about to introduce the next DJ, The Prophet. He began “ladies and gentlemen, one of hardstyle’s finest DJ’s, all the way from...” he then paused and realised he didn’t know where he was from, so he quickly turned to face him, saw his t-shirt, and spectacularly saved himself by saying “...Scantraxx Records!”. It was hilarious. Luckily the brand on his t-shirt was his own record label or it could’ve been quite embarrassing! EITP - What is the all time anthem from your events? The one track that always gets the best reception. CALLY - I don’t think there’s one track from the whole time we’ve been running our event that has been ‘the’ anthem, but over time certain tracks emerge as one of the anthems of the event for a few months before being replaced by the next big anthem. I’d say this year one of the tracks that has had the most airplay is Showtek’s Apologise, which is a cheeky hardstyle remix of Timbaland and One Republic’s massive chart topping track by the same name. The breakdown normally gets everyone singing with it, and when that happens you know it’s a big anthem! Couple of quick fire questions for you……. EITP - Favourite tune to work to? CALLY - Currently anything from the ‘Invaders Must Die’ album by the Prodigy. EITP - Best film ever? CALLY - Can’t pick one but love The Game, LOTR Trilogy, the original SW trilogy, Hot Fuzz and V for Vendetta. EITP - Favourite chill out tune? CALLY - Don’t have a favourite but Jason Mraz and James Morrison are pretty cool for that vibe EITP - Have you got any pets? CALLY - No. EITP - What about pet hates? CALLY - People who talk to you while you’re DJing, people who can’t drive. EITP - All time legend/idol? CALLY - Eminem. EITP - Most over-used quote? CALLY - I’ll get it done now. EITP - Finally, describe your brand in 5 words………. It’s all about the atmosphere the excitement, being groundbreaking, the production and most importantly, the music! click this link for the line up... http://www.escapefestival.com | |||
