| Sway signs to Akon’s Kon Live label After months of rumours and speculation, Sway has now officially signed to Akon’s Kon Live label. The multi-album deal applies worldwide with the exception of Europe and the UK where Sway retains his celebrated independence and will continue to release through his own Dcypha Productions outlet. Sway is the first European artist to be signed by five time Grammy nominee Akon and joins the star’s Kon Live and Konvict Muzik roster of talent alongside the highly successful T-Pain, famed for his collaborations with Kanye West and Lil Wayne, singer songwriter Colby O’Donis and Canadian rapper Kardinal Offishall who recently celebrated a Billboard Hot 100 top 10 with Dangerous. The Signature LP release date change In related news the release of Sway’s new album, The Signature LP, has now been moved back to 6th October. The delay is due to the late addition of Silver & Gold – a collaborative track with Akon that marks the start of Sway’s endeavours with Kon Live and Akon and which was initially held back until contracts were finalised. | taken from The Signature LP, out early Sept Saturday Night Hustle radiates from the speakers like gleaming city lights on a hot summer night. Illuminating the track with his ever-witty wordplay, fantastic flow and crystal clear vocal, Sway demonstrates why he’s rightly celebrated as one of the best in Britain. Fellow North Londoner Lemar steps up for a honey-coated hook where he ticks off each day of the week and the end result is an upbeat, car-stereo-bothering belter that’s catchy enough to cause a foot tapping pandemic. Produced by Shux – a long running Sway collaborator who’s also worked with Lupe Fiasco, Lily Allen and others – Saturday Night Hustle samples, rewires and revamps Alexander O’Neil and Charelle’s classic 80’s duet Saturday Love into a highly- polished piece of 2008 hip-pop. Listeners should be aware that it’s not just Sway’s nocturnal mid-weekend hustle that’s seen him reach this point, but rather his 7 day a week Jay-Z-like determination, endeavour and energy. Having set up his own record label in 2005 the talented yet then unknown rapper and producer unleashed a pair of electrifying mixtape releases. Acting as a showcase of his undeniable skills and abilities, the recordings heralded the arrival of an exciting British artist and set the scene for Sway’s highly acclaimed, Mercury-nominated 2006 debut album, This Is My Demo. Since the album’s release Sway has travelled and toured extensively, increasingly making his presence felt Stateside by winning America’s prestigious public-voted B.E.T. Award for Best UK Artist ahead of Dizzee Rascal and Kano, and in establishing strong links with Akon’s Konvict Music family. Throughout this remarkable journey Sway has opted to remain unsigned and independent using his own Dcypha label as the outlet for his creativity.
