Been Quiet!hace 147 días

Mayfield Drive have been quiet so far this year.

2008 was a blast and a push for constant gigs wherever possible, we raised funds and begun building our own private recording studio.

This little blog is to let you all know what we are planning for 2009, all be-it half way through the year!

SO FAR:
---------------------------------------

STUDIO:
The studio project is ongoing, Boab and his father have been adding structural foundations for the 18ft or so extension. The walls have all been properly insulated, the roof completed. We have a full new set of wiring which just needs to be hooked up to a fuse box (getting a pro to do that part).

We see the studio building progressing over the next few months with a few dependencies still in the works.

NEW MEMBER?
Having been a 3 piece band all this time we decided to expand our sound and influences by trialling a new member. A second guitarist Neil was with the band for a few weeks and indeed added a diversity to the sound. We worked on many songs and had some great jams but in the end decided that we would remain 3.

NEW SONGS
We have been writing some new songs recently, some of which are very much "outside of the box" for Mayfield Drive. We are very excited about these tracks and can't wait to finish them off and show you all how our tunes are maturing and evolving :)

UPCOMING
------------------------------------

GIGS, GIGS, GIGS and.. GIGS
We have done few gigs in 2009, hiding in our rehearsal space consentrating on writing, recording and learning new tracks.. Its time to get back out and fill the calendar.

Over the next few months we will be announcing shows as regularly as we can arrange them. These will be in Glasgow and in Edinburgh as well as the surrounding and local areas like Bathgate, Motherwell and so forth.

We can't wait to see you all at the shows and we even have a wee surprise for you, so come along :D

-----------------------------------

Thats pretty much it although we would like to give Mark, our bassist some luv as he's been very unwell recently (don't worry, its not flu of the swine nature) - so drop him a message on his own profile - with some luv! http://www.bebo.com/Profile.jsp?Memb...

and wish him better :)

.. See you all soon.

its not the secret (super duper cool) one ive been making noise about, but it'll do for now.

Bassist Wantedhace 273 días

Mayfield Drive have been a three piece band, mostly from creation - our previous attempts to add/replace members have not been successful but we are in the mood to try again.

Mark is now going to play rhythm guitar, which adds several new dynamic angles to our sound - we love being a three piece but with the added guitar our songs can be improved vastly, along with giving us more creative freedom where needed.

for this reason, we are actively recruiting a bass guitarist. They arn't as easy as you'd think to find but I (Ryan) am spamming forums and band personals from every corner of internet!

we will be holding auditions around the 22nd of this month (hopefully) and very soon we'll be back on track with gigging / recording.

If you know anyone, please my pass my details or email address: rmathieson@Gmail.com.
Or send me a bebo message with their details - which ever is easier for you.

thanks for continued support and the best following a band could ask for!

King of the Bands final result...hace 430 días

Well its been an interesting few weeks for us three during the king of the bands competition.

We have met and played alongside a bunch of great guys and girls who in our opinion should have all won a slice of the "winning" pie. Bands throughout all of the heats that have caught our attention and made us say to each other - "Fuck me, they are good!" or "What a great, original song".

But in true cyberdine style, Boab became self-aware on September 25th, 22:35 GMT (not PMT).

I personally thought that the results were crazy, with no disrespect meant to any of the participants. I wish congratulations to all the groups taking part in the final o Hamilton King of the Bands. It was great fun sharing a stage with all of the artists.

One particular band had an excellent cover of Massive Attack's "Teardrop". Another band were consistantly entertaining and as tight as two coats of paint - in my humble and honest opinion, deserved to win the grand prize (and i was genuinely shocked to find them 4th!!! WTF?. Another band managed to pinch another group's audience! But then it turned into a Ryder Cup chimp's party...which wasnt nice. But then again a rowdy audience is one thing, a wasted frontman is another...

Like I say all good fun...

Many many thanks to everyone who came to support us for the final. You truly dont know how much it meant to me, to hear you all chanting for us inbetween songs. Without you guys - whats the point?

PS Mayfield Drive came in third, which made me a very happy man.

However the prizes were pish

***** August Update *****hace 474 días

August has been a fanstastic and busy month for the band, Having only 3 gigs this month seems little but tightly schedualed together, this has kept the band on our toes.

We have had some fantastic support from some of our fans!

Saturday - 9th of August
~ The Ark - Edinburgh Fringe Special ~

This was an exciting gig for the band as we were being recorded by a proffesional camera crew, with a chance that our material can be published to fringe coverage on BBC and ITV as well as a hi quality audio and video recording on DVD provided to the band.

The band met up early on saturday, had a fantastic Jam and set off to the gig.

Fate of course was not on our side, we had some technical issues with the Bass guitar which presented a prominant crackle through the PA which the sound guy did an excellent job of cancelling out (following the first song).

Bobbys guitar had some heat induced tuning issues which to my amazement he kept on top of the whole set, theres a jaw dropping sence of AWE to watch him tune his strings, while playing notes on the other strings, while keeping the timing and melody together AND singing the song note for note!

The drummer threw the band off once or twice with some minor errors but of course, Mark and Bobby kept on top of it as always!!

while these technical issues feel catastrophic on stage, the crowd and loving fans assure us that our performance was well recieved and we are keene to hear the set on the DVD when it comes through.

Snips of the DVD will be posted once we have it!

Tuesday - 12th of August
~ WhistleBinkies band showcase - Edinburgh Fringe~

Another gig in the midle of the fantastic edinburgh festivil, the band were buzzing with excitement to be playing a new and un explored venue! A virgin stage with unknown expectations of the crowd had us baiting breath to get there and get playing. A deal with the organisors is that in the showcase, if you prove yourself worthy you are given the oppertunity to perform a Saturday night!

Of course, no night goes perfect, coupled with lack of communication from the event orginisors and the insane layout of edinburgh streets; tension was high as we tried relentlessly to find our way to the venue on time for our soundcheck.

After accepting that we were 35 minutes late for the soundcheck, it became a desperate challenge to simply get their for our slot! Moments of gloom hit the band while batteling the clock and fighting through the crowded streets of edinburgh the band finally arrived at the venue.

A sense of tention and stress glowing from our eyes as we carried our gear into the venue had us considerably concerned about how we would perform. being so close to canceling the whole night had us annoyed and frustrated.

This story ends with a happy ending as all feeling of stress and tention floated from the band almost the instant we hit the stage! - The band rocked hard, playing some funky covers to keep the crowd intertained and blissfully boasting our own music with complete and uninhibited confidence in ourselfs and each other.

We played a relitivly short 30 minute set but we could have played on for days, the crowd wouldnt have minded either.

WhistleBinkies cherry was popped in the proper Mayfield Drive style, having an absolute blast on stage, communicating and joking with the crowd, interacting with each other and loving every moment. A fantastic performance to be proud of and we look forward to being invited back for the saturday gig (if they let us of course!, haha)

~ Recording ~

As we have mentioned before, the band is activly recording our material, We have (well BOAB has) recently purchased some incredible new microphones and new cables. We are very close to having finished one track although during mastering we noticed a few snags and will be re-recording some parts of the song (maybe all of it) - We can't wait to get this material out to you all and will be continuing the recording process over the next coming months.

~14.08.08 - SEMI FINALS ~

The band had a fantastic night in the first heat, bringing some of our closest friends to cheer us on we managed to secure us a place in the Semi Finals. Mayfield Drive has never entered a competition before and this is an interesting and diffrent kind of scenario for us.

We are looking forward to the semi finals and as you can imagine, we have asperations of getting into the FINAL.

Tommorow night will decide that and we hope to see you there!

ITS MARKS BIRTHDAY TODAY - WISH HIM HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

 ***

~ Upcoming Weeks ~

The band will be concentrating on releasing our new material, writing and completing our new songs, releasing the new web site, securing sponsorships and rehersing our hearts out.

No gigs are booked following the KING OF THE BANDS tomorrow night and we are holding off booking dates until (probably) October!

Once we have all of this done, we will explode with activities, we will be handing out press packs, print outs, Tshirts.. We will book every venue under the sun, we will be marketing our new website, distributing our CD to (Whoever the hell will listen) - we will be working with other bands and contacts we have been making.

and we have a few suprises in store for you all so watch out for this.

*************************

Keep tuned for more updates and thank you for all you guys support.

We would like to explicitly thank Emma (Ryans Better Half) and Racheal (Boabs Better half) for all their commitment, sacrafices and help with everything.

They have helped out organising gigs, selling tickets - they have; on NUMEROUS occasions been designated drivers and have supported the band in every way. This is not a "sucking up" comment. there is a very genuin and open sense of appreciation for everything they have done.

THanks Ladies!!
