Daring Feet is ch-ch-ch-changing!!!!92 Tage her

The format of Daring Feet is changing this Autumn! It will still be on every Wednesday but this term it will be an 8 week performance course leading to a performance in The Waterside Theatre in December!

Ayesha Mailey will be teaching the classes and helping students create an original dance piece in 8 weeks...so this means members have to commit to the full term.

And instead of weekly payments, we are asking for one fee to pay for the full term- only £25 for 8 weeks!! Bargain!

You will still get the same quality experience, learn new dance and performance skills such as composition, improvisation and choreography. But this time, your friends and family will be able to see all your hard work at the performance in the theatre on Thursday 3rd December.

We would love to see new members come along as some of our wonderful dancers have left for university.

If you are interested in joining in, contact info@echoechodance.com or phone the office on +44(0)28 7134 2266.

Looking forward to it!!

Making Moves for 16- 18 year olds!382 Tage her

Making Moves: Choose a Direction

Are you aged 16 or over?

Do you have a passion for performing?

Are you already involved in physical theatre, drama or dance?

Have you ever thought of a career in the performing arts but are unsure of what to expect?

Making Moves could be for you!

Echo Echo Dance Theatre Company in partnership with the University of Ulster is offering you the unique opportunity to work intensively with professional dancers to improve your movement skills and performance technique.

Whether you wish to pursue dance into Higher Education or develop your skills through experience, Making Moves will open your eyes to the professional process of performers, modelled on the practice of Echo Echo Dance Theatre Company.

As the leading contemporary dance company in Northern Ireland, Echo Echo has a strong link with the University of Ulster's Dance degree course at the Magee campus. Both Co-Artistic Directors of the company teach regularly on the course.

Therefore as a bonus for completing the Making Moves summer course you will receive accreditation from the University of Ulster's School of Creative Arts.

The story so far...

The first stage of this course started in November 2008 with 8 free introductory dance sessions in schools across Northern Ireland from Derry to Antrim and Belfast to Strabane. Echo Echo was overwhelmed by the interest from secondary schools. The company hopes to maintain any new links created with them.

The introductory sessions lasted approx one hour and 30 minutes and were taught by Echo Echo Co-Artistic Director, Steve Batts and full time ensemble member, Ayesha Mailey. They were supported by Echo Echo's currrent placement students who are semi-professional dancers and dancers in training.

The sessions involved warming up exercises, aspects of choreography- how it's created and how to follow it and some more creative elements and improvisation before cooling down to finish.

It is hoped that participants enjoyed their experience of dance and movement and will be inspired to pursue it. However, there is no obligation to progress onto the Easter and Summer courses.

What's next?

Summer course: Monday 3rd - Friday 21st August - 10am to 6pm - Costs £50

There will be a performance on Thursday 20th August in The Waterside Theatre, Derry- Londonderry.

The course will take place in the Echo Echo Dance Studio, Waterside Theatre and The Foyle Arts Building at the University of Ulster's Magee Campus.

Echo Echo tutors will teach on both Making Moves courses as well as invited artists from Europe in order to provide an exciting and unique opportunity to learn from various talented and creative artists.

How to get involved...

If you are interested in participating in Making Moves Summer course- you must fill in an ‘expression of interest' form and return it to Echo Echo. The form is very basic, containing your contact details, school information and a paragraph about why you want to participate. You can get help from your teacher/parent if you need to.

The Expression of Interest form is designed to help Echo Echo decide on participants should there be more people interested than spaces available on the courses. On the Summer course, preference will be given to those who attended the Easter course.

** Download the Expression of Interest Form from the Echo Echo website www.echoechodance.com **

Making Moves : Choose a Direction

Watch BBC One on Sunday 23rd November at 5.40pm to see a short feature on Echo Echo's upcoming Youth Dance Development Course - featuring Daring Feet members!

The producer of the BBC Lifeline programme came to the Echo Echo Dance Studio last week to film Daring Feet and interview Steve and others. The programme will be repeated on the following Monday night and Wednesday lunch time.

Hopefully the clip will highlight youth dance in Northern Ireland and help raise the profile of the Youth Dance Development Course that Echo Echo will be running in partnership with the University of Ulster.

The first stage of this course is underway with introductory dance sessions due to be held at secondary schools across the province in late November. Then there will be a week long course at Easter and a three week intensive course in summer 2009.

The course, called Making Moves is aimed at 16- 18 year olds with a passion for performing, whether it's physical theatre, drama or dance. The course will be an insight into the professional world of performers, modelled on the practice of Echo Echo Dance Theatre Company.

Participants of the summer course will receive accreditation from the University of Ulster to use if they decide to pursue the Performing Arts into Higher Education.

Full details of Making Moves will be released shortly. In the meantime, if you are interested in this course or want to find out more email info@echoechodance.com and you can be added to the mailing list.

Do you dare?…Exciting and creative outlet for teens with Daring Feet Summer School

Echo Echo Dance Theatre Company’s youth dance company, Daring Feet will be running a summer intensive for ages 13-20 years from Monday 11th to Friday 15th August.

As part of Echo Echo’s summer programme, this one-week course for teenagers- current members and those new to the company – is an opportunity to learn about dance, movement and performance from talented and experienced professionals.

The Daring Feet summer intensive begins on Monday 11th until Friday 15th August from 2pm- 5pm in Echo Echo’s dance studio in the Waterside Theatre and only costs £25 for the full week.

Each three-hour session will help participants improve their performance skills, work on some choreography, improvisation and technique. Participants can also find out more about how a dance company works and what careers are available in the dance sector.

It is a fantastic chance to have some fun with friends or to deepen your dance training if you are thinking about a career in performing arts. Also, if those who take part fall in love with dance they can join in for Daring Feet’s weekly classes in the autumn term.

Daring Feet meets regularly during term time for training in contemporary forms of dance and performance. The current group will be performing at a Health Promotion Agency and Sport NI conference addressing the promotion of physical activity in young people on Wednesday 25th June in Ballymena.
