| What's Going On?! | 481 giorni fa | |||
| Afternoon Everybody How are things with you? It does seem like ages ago since we last spoke...so catching up... Last week I featured some new artists for you to check out and then Friday I ventured out into the Surrey sticks (aka the countryside) for my own spotlight. Eventually finding my way around Surrey University's campus, Andy Vale presented his 'Perfumed Garden Gnome Show' of Ladies, Ladies, Ladies, hmmmm-hmmmm! Guests included Susie Clarke, Gemma Bowles and yours truly, LT. I was probably on air for an hour chatting and performing some new songs, 'Take A Back Seat, Andy!' and also covered James Brown's 'This Is A Man's Man's World'. So hear me belt out, get stage fright and be cheeky with plenty of raucous laughs and giggles right here http://www.gu2.co.uk/index.php/on-ai... (only available until tomorrow 15 August , 18:59 GMT)! The interview runs from 7-10pm and so you need to download each hour. To help you out I'm in the end part of 8pm and beginning of 9pm sessions. Click on the links on the website labeled as listed below, to download and stream them: * Friday 7 PM Andy Vale's Perfumed Garden Gnome Show * Friday 8 PM Andy Vale's Perfumed Garden Gnome Show * Friday 9 PM Cyclone Dance Show After Andy's show I popped down to see Miles Winter-Roberts (http://www.mileswinterroberts.com) and he was phenomenal as always. The rest of my weekend was filled with a private function, a wedding down South. Actually it was the funniest gig I've ever done so far because they had a decibel limiter...so when belting out songs whether me or the band, the power for the sound system would cut out and all you'd hear was the drums and crowd singing - hilarious but eventually I timed it so it looked like it was part of the show!!! Anyway, Sunday was my usual stint at the 15 Minute Club (http://www.myspace.com/15minuteclub) and our jam session got 3 encores, so we played on and on and on! Monday, was a day out with the band, where I dragged the boys out into Surrey Hills, with heels and all! We spent the day talking about our future. You see since performing at GuilFest 2008, I've been going through changes, making my mind up about how I go forward and what I'll be doing next. So Monday was all about that. It takes so much believing in what you do and then actually having the right people who want to work with you and that believe in you too. And finally, these are my guys and I'm their little lady! More about the band and Santa's Little Helper in weeks to come :-) But I have to tell you about the highlight of my Monday. We mosied onto The Bedford in South London, where we saw Miles Winter-Roberts play and then I did a spot performance of my new single 'Gonna Make This Right'. Not quite finished, I drove us through the scenic route of London to Piccadilly Circus where Peter Lemarr and Patrick Alan were performing at The Pigalle Club. Just in time to see Mr Lemarr give it some and then the house band play on where Patrick Alan invites singers onto the stage too (and trust me not just anyone gets invited). As I'd done my virgin debut a couple of weeks ago and proved my worth, Patrick invited me back up where I sang 'You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman' with some of the best musicians - these guys have played with people I get star-struck just talking about! Anyway, Aretha Franklin I hope I made you proud, baby! My favourite part was when Patrick and I ended the song in an answer and question form - he's brilliant, so it's an honour sharing his stage and singing with him. So the rest of the week has been preparation and my lovelies, I know I'm being pretty secretive-ish about what's in store, but the clues are all in my latest emails and saved in my blogs (http://blog.myspace.com/lisatheuniss... now just catch me and the guys perform over the next few weeks whilst we unravel our magic carpet ride... | Hello, Hello! Last night I did my first review of upcoming artists on Delta Radio...ladies and gents let's take a walk on the wild side... Miles Winter Roberts My favourite artist at the moment. Miles emulates passion, raw emotions and that overall good factor that is so infectious that you just have to swing your hips and get into that whole Spanish vibe. His website is the coolest: http://www.mileswinterroberts.com and ladies, his voice is so sexy, it runs through your veins begging you for more, more, more - no, I'm not joking!!! Gents, not leaving you out here, but you should be jealous, impressed and in awe of this incredible and captivating performer. Originally raised in Ibiza and spent years in Hamburg, Eastern Europe and the Rivieras, but now actually a Guildford guy. Having performed for George Clooney on his yacht, at Ronnie Scotts, The Under Score: NYC and a zillion other hotspots. So where can you see Miles in action? Tomorrow night (8th August, from 8pm onwards) at The Compasses Inn in Gomshall, Surrey, UK. http://www.thecompassesinn.co.uk/liv.... I'll be there after my radio interview with Andy Vale, to shake my shimmy, so get your skates on, you'll be breathless with all the excitement. Rietta Austin Next up is my Aussie-lischious friend, Rietta. I mentioned her in my previous email out and highly recommend you catch her live. The most phenomenal voice that would most probably wipe the stage that Leona Lewis stands on. Oh yes, Rietta is that good. Check out http://www.riettaaustin.com for more, more, more... Jeremy Christopher If I was presenting singer-songwriter of the year, I'd fight for Jeremy to win hands down. I'm so impressed with his stuff, that I managed to convince him to write with me...watch this space, you heard all about him here. Have a listen at http://www.myspace.com/jeremychristo..., gorgeous music touching your soul. Kelly Pepper This excellent pop act has a fab single pricking up ears called 'Miracle Man'...go to http://www.myspace.com/pepperedmusic - she's hot, baby! Liam Madison You will be drawn into his performance without thinking about it. Liam's from up north and will go anywhere and everywhere to play. He is passionate, writes fantastics pop songs, with a bit of a rock edge. Wanna hear more? http://www.myspace.com/liammadison! Sherry Davis A couple of week's ago whilst hosting the 15 Minute Club, I was soundchecking and not having seen or heard Sherry before, I was sold from the first notes - and that was just the sound check...go to http://www.myspace.com/sherrysherrydavis and find out why! So, besides my own music career, I'm part of the 15 Minute Club: http://www.myspace.com/15minuteclub where we showcase original music every Sunday evening. So far in London we have two venues, The Living Room in Islington and Prohibition Bar and Restaurant in St Katherine's Dock. It's run by Rae Hall (a phenomenal dance act just signed to Defected Records and working with Sandy Riviera - http://www.myspace.com/raegunhq) and Laurence Hobbs (an amazing songwriter and producer that runs Major Music and Blue Room Productions - http://www.myspace.com/blueroommusicltd). As we are all performers, we also get in on the scene and play at these nights and then at the end we get all the musicians booked that night to have a bit of a jam and fun. The nights always rock, so you should c'mon on down... Keith Woodhouse seemd to like what I did (even though I nattered on forever!) so I'll be back on 10th September to feature some new upcoming artists on Delta Radio. Tomorrow, tomorrow... I'll be on Andy Vale’s Perfumed Garden Gnome Show on GU2 Radio 1350AM from 7:00-10:00pm (Friday, 8th August 200 . It's ladies night, so Andy will be featuring Susie Clarke, Miss Earth National Finalist Gemma Bowles and I. To contact the studio and shake your pom-poms of support call up 01483 681350 or email: studio@gu2.co.uk. If you're not around catch the show later from http://www.gu2.co.uk where you can listen back - Andy posts all his past recordings there. And if you haven't listened to his show yet, get on it because he is going the be the world's next big DJ, world domination and all that, aha oh yeah!!!HerNews OMG, okay I've been nominated as Best Female Solo Artist for the Guildford Brits Awards! Winners are announced on 3rd September at Fahrenheit 55, where the prestigious event will be held...shaking my pom-poms, yeeehaaa! I can't wait... Finally... Last night I had the honour of watching Peter Lemarr from The Drifters perform at Fahrenheit 55. Byron Johnston, promotes the Strangers on a Train nights (showcasing original music). He is also one of the most brilliant flamenco/classical style guitarists to hit the planet, and I'm also writing with him (check him out at http://www.myspace.com/themusicofbyron). Anyway, not digressing too much, Peter was just 'WOW' and he asked if anyone in the audience could do a number he wasn't 100% on, so I stepped up to the opportunity of singing Me and 'Mr' Jones, sharing the stage, harmonies and a wonderful sensation playing with an artist that I'm inspired by. It's these moments that mean so very much. So ladies and gents, tell your friends, family and kittens to check out Lisa Theunissen and tell HerStory, this is just the beginning and you're right here with me. Ciao for now...more, more, more later LT XX Lisa Theunissen http://wwwlisatheunissen.com | ||||

| Play that funky music... | 497 giorni fa | |||
| Wow! What a week...okay, okay, so I started last Monday at Tony Moore's 'Let's Talk Music' at The Bedford: http://www.new.facebook.com/pages/TH.... The topic was management, so of course I asked the panel what it takes to bridge the gap to find a manager. The answer was simple 'you need a believer, someone that falls in love with your music and you as an artist, so that they drive it harder than you with the right intention - it's a little like marriage' and Robert Hart from Bad Company very kindly told me to 'hang in kiddo' and dedicated 'Angel' to me. It was such a fantastic night of passionate people in the music industry strutting their stuff and talking shop! The next one's on publishing at the end of the month - if you're an artist, then definitely don't miss it! A bit later on, I got to play four songs and for those there they got to hear my new single...hhmmmm, well those not there will have to wait a while longer for me to reveal anymore... Wednesday rolled on and after a seven-hour band rehearsal, I headlined my favourite Guildford spot, Fahrenheit 55: http://www.fahrenheit55.co.uk. Thanks to everyone that popped in to check it out, you were a great crowd! Thursday, I was pitching 'Take A Back Seat, Boy!' to potential sponsors at the British Motor Show, which was a whole lotta VaVaVoom! Yeah, well as an independent artist that is not yet a household name, there's plenty of marketing and promotional things I can work on directly with brands. So if you wanna see the demographics, be involved and have some ideas we could roll out, then please drop me an email: sounds@lisatheunissen.com. Saturday was a very special day as my two friends tied the knot and I had the priviledge of playing for them. So I wrote them a song as a gesture of thanks! That will be the second single release off my new album...watch this space! As well as that, my band got everyone on the dancefloor, and there was a very cute eight year old drummer that came on stage and jammed with us. He was soo good, I nearly replaced my drummer on the spot! Ahh, then summery Sunday I got to big up some amazing artists at the 15 Minute Club: http://www.myspace.com/15minuteclub, what talent! Next week Wednesday, I'll be reviewing them on Delta Radio, when Keith Woodhouse interviews The Levellers. So, I'll introduce some upcoming funklicious acts you should seriously check out :-) Yesterday, was a typical 'Manic Monday' and was definitely a ditzy day for me! Okay, okay - you might as well know that all I wanna do is sing, write and play...so when Patrick Alan from The Drifters wanted to know if I could sing...oh Lord, did he know! Last night, Mark Lundquist (agent for The Commitments, Gypsy Kings, etc) took me to The Pigalle Club - and you should have seen the acts there - woah, like hello! Anyway, after thinking it was my turn not just once but twice and being wrong both times standing on stage (oopsie-daisy) third time lucky I was called up...Yes and Patrick told me off for being such a naughty girl, so what did I do...errr sing Etta James' 'I Just Wanna Make Love To You'! Yeah, yeah, listen, I had the last train to catch...that's the real reason I was so keen to perform!!! Anyway, I'm going to try and MISbehave a bit more this week, hahaha! As the time has finally come for my band to support Never the Bride: http://www.neverthebride.com. It is always, and I mean ALWAYS, a brilliant night with Nikki, Been and the Boys and they'll have surprise guests that will rock your socks off - so get down on it with us...you will not be able to do anything else other than 'Woohoo, yeah Baby'! Come out to play at the Bull's Head in Barnes, London (http://www.thebullshead.com) on Thursday, 31 July at 8pm sharp and shake your pom-poms, we'd love to see you... | Hi there The Week That Was And Going Forward Wednesday evening was such a laugh in the Delta Radio studio with Mr Keith Woodhouse and Dielle (a singer-songwriter reviewing bands). Well, besides when I adjusted the microphone and he nearly went deaf! After the mischievous moment I performed two very acoustic and almost A Capella versions of 'Sweep Me Off My Feet' and 'HerStory'...and then Dielle and I decided to take over the show, nattering on about 'how do you write a song' theories - as you do! If you missed it, you're very naughty, but may be in luck as I might have a copy of it soon :-) And whilst typing to you, Keith just called and asked me to come back on 6th August to review some artists which I promote at the 15 Minute Club http://www.myspace.com/15minuteclub :-) Next week I'll be headlining at Fahrenheit 55 on Wednesday, 23rd July 2008 from 8:30pm onwards for an acoustic set of heartfelt soul. (Milk House Gate, off the High Street, Guildford, Surrey, GU1 3EZ - http://www.fahrenheit55.co.uk) Also on Monday night (21st July), pop into The Bedford where you may just see me perform at the Let's Talk Business evening hosted by Tony Moore... Map: http://www.thebedford.com Webcast Live: http://www.whereitsat.tv/bblive.html Some more festivals and radio sessions have been added, so check out the shows (some of the timings are still be confirmed - but I'll keep you posted). | Hi there It's been a couple of weeks on the road performing at Festivals and we've been very blessed with the sunshine streaming down and wonderful people we've met along the way. To check out what we got up to, here's a few links with photo's and reviews: FaceBook Events: GuilFest 2008: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?ei...; Aylesbury Festival 2008: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?ei...; Weekender Rocks: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?ei.... MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/lisatheunissen Whilst we've been out, there have been a couple of reviews released I'd like to share with you... Soulful Answers to Life's Ups and Downs Charlotte Talbot reviews HerStory, the debut album by Lisa Theunissen Woking Review Newspaper, 5 July 2008 Singer-Songwriter and keyboard player Lisa Theunissen is a class act. Her album, HerStory, which she describes as 'like eating chocolate in a smoky blues bar at midnight', is full of country twang and soul. South African-born Theunissen (pronounced Tennyson) uses the album to track life's ups and downs, with songs about love, life and keeping going, no matter what. The catchy title song, HerStory, is an upbeat track with a funky rhythm that will get audiences dancing, as will the empowering high tempo sing-along 'Take A Back Seat, Boy!'. The smooth 'If Only' and soulful 'Times' definitely show off Lisa's velvety vocals to their full potential. Her lyrics are heartfelt, her sound is full of rhythm and her voice is silky-smooth - a grittier and more soulful Norah Jones. Although most of the tunes on this 11 album album are much slower and thought-provoking, it still has the makings of being a great summer record, providing the soundtrack to any chilled-out evening. Purchase HerStory from iTunes, Amazon, CDBaby.com, HerStore at http://www.lisatheunissen.com and from Ben's Collectors Records Shop in Guildford, United Kingdom. Lisa's Soulful Showcase at the Fox and Pelican, Grayshott, Tuesday 1 July Live Gig Review by Vic Cracknell, Published in Petersfield Post, 9 July 2008 Last Tuesday's showcase included a feature set from GuilFest 2008 performer singer-songwriter Lisa Theunissen. Having not seen here play "live" before I wondered whether she could replicate the impressive sound on her debut album 'HerStory'. I was not disappointed. A soulful voice with plenty of range and accompanying herself on the piano, she had the audience entranced from the start. Originally from South Africa, she has a style and sound most reminiscent of American soul performer Alicia Keys. Highlight songs included 'Moving On' and the cheeky 'Take a Back Seat, Boy!' and were performed with verve and confidence. It was clear she was enjoying herself and shines at live performance. The Week Ahead Tomorrow evening I'll will be in studio with Keith Woodhouse from 7pm-8pm. Promises of chats, giggles and a couple of songs...so please tune in and listen at 97.1 FM, 101.6 FM, 101.8 FM or 102 FM or http://www.deltaradio.co.uk. Then you can catch HerShow where I'll be headlining at Fahrenheit 55 on Wednesday, 23rd July 2008 from 8:30pm onwards. It's a great little acoustic venue, so pop in for some heartfelt soul.
