"Raising awairness on this pregnancy condition"

Updatehace 311 días

Been so long since I updated this and so much has happened. I am walking (albeit still with alot of pain and not as far as I used to) and for that I am more than thankful. My little Antony was born by c-section on the 21st May 2008 at 37 wks and was taken to the neonatal unit as his apgas score dropped - he was having probems controling his temperature, they hadnt even weighed him yet. The next two days were tough there was the conflict between trying to move about so my wound would heal but not cause more pain than needed to my pelvis. All I wanted to do was sit with my baby boy. He was 7lb 2oz, a good weight for 37wks but he looked so poorly in the incubator. All was well though he competed a course of anti biotics and was returned to me on the ward. The next day I was itching to get home (had been in for 2weeks prior to the birth) and thankfully was allowed to. I missed my family so much. Life is wonderful with the wee man and Sarah has recently been given the all clear for her kidney problems she was on long term anti biotics for which was a huge relief. I am back at college two nights a week doing my PDA (cassroom assistant) as my physio told me to forget nursing as it seems when I was in labour with Sarah my tail bone got broken (I now feel like I am sitting on a tennis ball - its agony) and have also been diagnosed with Hypermobility syndrome which apparently is the reason for my ME and other health problems and why it was never picked up on before no one knows. I am waiting to see an orthopeadic surgeon to see if surgery will help my tail bone and my knee and if there is any other help I can get (I stil have to use my crutches on bad days). Within myself though I have not been happier I have the most amazing husband and three most beautiful children and my outlook to life is totaly different I can now see that I am a survivor not just of my health but also of things that have gone before and I have so much to be thankful for. Every day is a blessing and everyday I can walk is a bonus. OK so I need to use my crutches the odd day (prob more than I do) and I need to stay in bed and rest more than I woud like but to see the smiles on my kiddies faces and hear them laugh makes my life compete.

Pain Clinichace 614 días

Thats me had my first appointment at the pain clinic and I love my doc!
My GP had said no to expect much with being pregnant but to go to "keep me on their books" as it turned out it went very very well. He has given me my own TENS machine to use as much or as little as I need and its mine now too. Just need to figure out how to use it so it works best. Its really small so I can wear it out for appointments and stuff (when my pain is really bad). He has also recomended an early section (was having one anyway) and one the baby arrives I am to have an MRI scan and be reffered to the surgical team for treatment. All in all it was a result as when I was living in Ayr had asked about using TENS for pain relief I even didnt mind having to fork out for one but got a load hums and haws so am really hoping it makes a difference.
Nevt appointment is Friday with my consultant. I am a wee bit anxous about that as my lovely Dr O has retired so this is a new consultant but am sure it will all be ok and I should be getting the date for my section. It will be a bit easier knowing I have an endpoint to work to I just hope that she decides that the physio and GP advice of a section at 3wks is too soon I would rather 35 or 36wks. Just need to wait and see now

Sorry not been on but been away to Centre Parcs for a wee break (it was the only thing keeping me out of hospital the past few weeks too) and it was great. My hubby hired me a wee moblitity scooter that was actually quite comfie to get about and the staff were fantastic I cannot praise them enough nothing was too much regarding helping me and they managed it all without being patronising too - well done centre parcs! I even managed into the pool which was sheer bliss having my bump supported. The rest of the family had a great time too and I actually managed to sleep while I was there too (the bed was sooo comfie) recomend it to anyone.
Anyway the rest has also given me loads of campaigning ideas too so will keep you all posted. Hope you are all coping and keeping well. Linds xxx

Welcome to the SPD/DSP support grouphace 639 días

Hi there I am a sufferer from this condition and am hoping that this group will provide a place for fellow sufferers and our friends and families to come and share experiences, tips, advice, and ideas. I hope that we can raise awareness of this awful condition and the affect that it has on our and our families lives. Feel free to add your story, pics, comments and polls to the space as thats what it is for. Abouve all I never want an SPD sufferer to feel that they are alone with no one to talk to about how they are feeling and nowhere to share their worries so hopefully this group can help.
