The management of Gun, one of Scotlands best known rock bands, have been in touch with us with an interest in bringing the band to Shetland.

Gun were quite big in the late 80's and early 90's with their first 3 albums, Taking on The World, Gallus and Swagger mainstays in the albums chart.

The Glasgow-based band are probably best known for their version of Cameo's Word Up!, which was a hit single for Gun in 1994. The link to the video is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1xARb...

Gun split up in 1997 but reformed last year with Toby Jepson of Little Angels on vocals (replacing original singer Mark Rankin).

The band have expressed an interest in coming up next year, is there any interest amongst Beboers to see the band in Shetland?

Mallorca Lee, Bixter 21/11/0929 giorni fa

A massive thank you to everyone who came along to Bixter last night. an excellent night was had by all and it is a great credit to the young folk who came along how stress and trouble free the event went off.

Many Thanks again to Mallorca for his excellent work on the decks, he has become something of an institution in shetland and once again he provide excellent entertainment for all aswell as inspiration for the young and upcoming DJs of Shetland.

Thanks also to Derek Hendrey for use of his equipment and technical support, even on the end of the phone, and the management of baroc for the loan of the sound equipment.

Thanks also to the Bixter hall committee for their continued support and stewarding of the event.

Thanks also to all the shops and businesses across Shetland who allowed us to advertise in their windows.

There are probably people I have forgotten so I would like to particularly thank them because without them events like this just don't happen.

The real credit as always goes to the ticket buyers and gig attendees - you guys are great!

Thanks to everyone who attended for making sure the first night was a complete sell-out!!

Enormous credit to give the staff at Baroc / Golden Coach for their hard work turning a thriving restaurant into a great nightclub in the space of an hour. It really was a sight to behold and took great teamwork and organisation to pull it off.

Thanks also to Derek Hendry for all his hard graft through the week installing lights and setting up the sound system on the night.

Overall the night proved to be a huge success, there was a good atmosphere in the place and not a single spot of bother.

Mallorca played a great set despite a few technical problems and remarked that it had been the best night he had played in Shetland so far.

The next next event will be announced shortly.

KLub Revolution @ Baroc37 giorni fa

After a near-decade long hiatus, Klub Revolution returns to the Lerwick club scene to promote regular music nights at Baroc Nightclub.

The first night starts on Friday 20th November with special guest, and one of Scotlands leading DJ's, Mallorca Lee, coming up to spin the tunes for the opening night.

Mallorca Lee was the frontman and MC in 2 of Scotland's leading live dance acts, Ultrasonic and Public Domain. He is now one of Scotland's best known DJ's, and has regular nights around the country, as well as residencies in London and Northern Ireland. His debut solo album, entitled MLXL, wil be out later this year.

Klub Revolution started as an alternative club night in 2000, operating out of the Shetland Country Music Club's former premises at North Road every Friday night.

The regular club nights came to an end in 2001, when the premises were sold to the group which opened the Somewhar Else nightclub and bar, however the Klub Revolution name kept going by promoting bands and DJ's from the mainland throughout Shetland.

The nights in the old Country Club proved a huge success and provided a platform for bands such as Suppository Business, Revolver and Junk Deluxe to make a name for themselves. It also embraced the thriving local DJ scene at the time.

Baroc has been dormant as a nightclub since earlier this year, when the Golden Coach moved in to operate their Chinese restaurant from the premises.

Regular club nights will begin again on Saturday nights in December, while the night on Friday 20th November will serve as a taster for things to come.

Doors will open at 11pm and the club will be open until 2am.

The layout has been changed so that the larger area downstairs will serve as the dancefloor, with DJ's performing there instead of the booth upstairs.

The former dancefloor upstairs will be used as a seated "chill-out" area with the music being piped in at a more moderate volume. There is also potential to beam pictures from downstairs onto big screens in this area or have a second DJ playing there.

New lights have been installed including state of the art scanners and lasers, with projections being used to add to the atmosphere of the club.

Tickets for Malloca Lee's gig at Klub Revolution on Friday 20th November are onsale now from Baroc/Golden Coach at the reduced price of only £5, otherwise admission will be £8 at the door.

We look forward to seeing as many folk there as possible!!

Klub Revolution. The Alternative.
