Spring Updatehace 437 días

Hey all! What's up? Thought i'd give you guys a quick update from us...

Not much has been happening except we've been doing some time in the studio recording new songs ('Ruth' + 'Thermohaline') + acoustic tracks. We've got Chucky (Sixlip + Broken Hill Records) engineering this puppy for us + so far so good. We've tracked drums, most of the guitars (Yes Reg + Matt are playing on the tracks) + Malisa is recording Bass tomorrow.

No word on what we're going to do them when they're done but there will probably be another release of some kind.

We're pretty keen to start afresh once it's done though; We want to have that feeling of starting over. I've been working hard on putting material together + it's getting there... Slowly.

Anyways we've got some vids on You Tube from the farewell show so go check them out. We'll keep you up to date from the studio, etc. Aaron leaves for the US tomorrow so look after him you american folk! L8rs...

We Remise! We Discontinue! (Goodbye Reg + Matt!!!)hace 468 días

If you missed out the events of last night we at MVF HQ lost our voices, hurt ourselves, bled everywhere, + hung out with friends to mark the departure of Reg + Matt from Mona Vale Falls.

We'd like to thank Sixlip, The Blackwood Affair, One Left Standing (Who filled in for Beneath The Silence. Get well soon Sophia!), Velocity Scene + everyone who made the show happen. It was great to see familiar faces once again, go check out these bands now!

If you weren't there you missed:
- Aaron + Matt bleeding all over their instruments... Again.
- The jungle gym theatrics + spin kicks... Again.
- The guest vocalists (Thanks James + Josh!)
- "Pass the parcel/microphone"
- The overwhelming sing alongs! (Especially during EXIT + PANIC)

If anyone's got photos or video of the show please let us know! We'd love to make you famous on our page...

Thanks to everyone who has come to a MVF show, helped us out, played alongside us, or even said hello to us! You guys have made this chapter of Mona Vale Falls what it is and we couldn't have experienced such things without your support... We love you guys!!!

Reg + Matt have been an integral part of MVF history (Reg as an original member + Matt since the end of 2006) and we the remaining of MVF wish them all the best with future endeavours!!! (As Matt would say) We're going to miss you guys...

Also congratulations to Matt + his partner Michal on their engagement!

Anyways we have new things in the pipeline for you guys but in the meantime it is with a hint of sadness + a lot of uncertainty that we begin our change... Keep your eyes here for more! L8rs.

The Ending Begins (+ Streetwise Like You Crazy Scarlet)hace 481 días

Hey folks! Who else has been addicted to the Olympics? I missed it yesterday + NZ won 5 medals... Go figure.

Anyways this weekend we broke our hibernation with some live shows. I think it was a long time coming + we were a tad rusty...

Thanks to PRIMAL CHRISTCHURCH for looking after us. We love floor shows! Reg threw in a Spin Kick + i got to test my monkey skills too. Thanks Chucky for doing sound for us at the last minute!

Thanks to STREETWISE SCARLET + LIKE YOU CRAZY! for taking us out on their South Island shows. We have never laughed so hard to any stage banter until then, Streetwise gave you your $10 worth right there. I guess we're too serious of a band to be able to do that... Or maybe it's the fact that i'm not all that funny. GO BUY THE STREETWISE SCARLET ALBUM NOW!!!

The Dux was fun times, their lighting rig was perfect for swinging. Dunedin was fun times too, i managed to climb the speaker stack + managed to fall off it too... + yes there was another Spin Kick. Thanks PETE and STEPH for accom and good times! We love you kids!

For all you folks that didn't make it here's the top 5 highlights:
01) VELVET BURGER - Go buy the GONEBURGER... Yum! (+ yes they have a vege burger too, Malisa tried it)
02) The Maori guy playing songs outside the venue in Dunedin - You had to be there.
03) The lady in the BMW that pulled the fingers at us twice on the drive home from Dunedin - You made overtaking that much more satisfying + funny!
04) All of us owning the toilet in a service station in Oamaru - Aaron close the door!
05) Streetwise Scarlet telling us how their gear got stolen - You should ask them about it sometime.

So we've decided to do a final all-ages show as Reg + Matt's farewell show. The details are coming very soon so be sure to check our page for more info! Also check out their other projects, it's in our top friends list.

Anyways the Olympics are calling me + again i will neglect sleep to do so! L8rs...

Hibernation: Where All That You Know About Us Is About To Changehace 494 días

Hey Folks! I thought it was about time to update you guys with the latest from us and you guys have been pretty good with the rumours... I think you're going to need to sit down for this one.

We regret to tell you all that our guitarists Matt and Reg have left the band due to personal reasons. There was no bad blood between any of us and we're all still on good terms, the guys have just decided to move onto other things...

Needless to say the rest of us are pretty gutted and in all honesty this hibernation period was partly the catalyst for their departure, not saying that if we didn't have a break we'd still be a band but we definitely needed the break to clear our heads so it would have happened regardless.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us over the last year and a half with this line-up!!! We've met a lot of people and created so many memories that you guys helped to create but don't give up on us just yet!!!

Aaron, Malisa, and I are in the process of sorting out our future... What that is and what it will look like is uncertain. We've still been writing songs, in fact this was the catalyst to get me writing again. Funny how things work out huh...

So that's it. Feel free to ask us any questions or whatever, thank you again for all your support during all of this! Oh yeah i almost forgot... Reg didn't want his last show to be with him sitting down playing with a bung foot so we're going to go out with a bang!

We've got some shows coming up very soon @ Christchurch Primal and with Streetwise Scarlet in Christchurch and Dunedin (R18) . Check out the shows part of our page for all the details... We're thinking about doing a final All Ages show in close proximity so if you want it then let us know! We're also going to record our new songs too for archive purposes...

Anyways we hope to see you folks soon! To be continued... L8rs!

Nothing Lasts Forever... hace 559 días

Current mood: Tired But Not Quite Sleepy Yet

Hey all! If you've got some time go check out the new song by The Almost, Aaron says it's good so go check it out. My pick would be The Ting Tings... Again check it out and then make up your own mind.

Anyways if you didn't read our last blog tomorrow night's show at the Detour Basement is going to be our last show for a while. We're taking some time out to relax, sus out future plans and then start writing. Whether the songs are for a future release is yet to be decided... Also how long we're taking a break for hasn't been made definite either. We've been playing the same set for almost a year and a half now, i think we all agree it's time for a change.

Come along to the show and hang out with us, we're on at about 9pm. You'll be in for an interesting night that's for sure, i guess you'll understand when you see Reg... Don't ask. Give Duncan a huge hug as he's leaving our shores once he's finished playing with The Red Corner... Go buy their album!

Lastly a huge HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! to our good friends Mandy, Michelle and Josh (of Velocity Scene fame). If you want us to wish you a happy birthday then just let us know when your birthday is... Yup.

Have fun folks! See you tomorrow night... Or not. L8rs!

Oops!!! Our Shows List Is Being Dumb...Tonights Acoustic Show Isnt Happening...please read hace 563 días

Current mood: rotten tired

Hey kids,

I've been going to bed at like 2 or 3am for the last 2 weeks and getting up at 7:30 for work, I dont know how much longer i can keep this up...if you havent done so already I very highly suggest you jump onto www.myspace.com/showbread or www.showbread.net and investigate their brand new concept albums 'Anorexia Nervosa'! It's not what you think at 1st glance at all, I won't give away too much so go and take a look! I've been waiting for this concept for about 8 months now and it has definately delivered!

Aaaanyway,
Our shows list shows that the 'Mona Vale Acoustic Evening' Is happening tonight in Christchurch new zealand...sadly this show has been put off for a couple months! It has been deleted from our profile but for some reason it's still been showing up on our My Space page.

We're super sorry to anyone who was planning on coming along!
We do still want to do the show in the near future (we just havent had enough time to organise it and make it something which meets up to quality control standards) but keep your eyes peeled and it'll hopefully be relisted soon!

But if you wanna see us at all in the next month or so you shoujld make sure you come along to the Underground show on may 31st for the Red Corner Ep release show. This will be our last show for a month as we're taking june off for some much needed time to rest and get the creative juices flowing for some new material.

See you next saturday kids!
much wintery love,

After Tour Blues* hace 577 días

Hello hello hello

Well. We are back home after a fantastic time away! Stepping outside of the Chch Airport took my breath away...i wasnt expecting it to be so cold! Go the South Island weather aye...oosh...

Anyways.
Our stay in Tauranga/Mt Maunganui was amazing. After Primal we had the pleasure of hanging out with Tim, Christian (check out his clothing label-CRUMB) and Kern at BK which is where Aaron vowed to never touch...or look at...another burger again. Well. On tour at least. I think he kept to his word.
Thank you heaps to Josh Speeden who was lovely enough to feed and drive Reg and Matty around the Bay on Friday. You have educated us in the way of Dumpster Diving which inspired us to actually do it in order to find some carpet for the drums. Photos should be up soon. It didnt smell the best but we got what we wanted plus Mark having fun with the big cardboard poles. Yup.
And the show was a success. Well...a success in a way that we all got to play at least. Noise control paid a visit to the ol' Greerton Hall and ordered us to shut down which meant we and Trigger Theory were almost unable to play but thanks to the negotiation skills of Chubbs and Justin the soundie...we were able to go on...for 4 songs at least. And that ended with Aaron cracking his cymbal. And im sure i didnt help by smashing my bass on it. My bass is ok though? Go figure. Thanks Fender, you rule! Ha.
So the BIGGEST thank you to Tales (congrats on winning the heats of Primal BOTB!), Fletcher (esp for providing amps and such!) and Trigger Theory (for travelling and also only playing 4 songs...).
Aaron stayed true to his word...we bypassed the Burger King after the show and opted for supermarket food and head back to 27b to watch Summer Heights High. We highly recommend that you watch it sometime...

So goodbye Tauranga and hello Auckland...eventually. After cafe food...arguing with the waitress about Fairtrade coffee...and stopping off in Paeroa to well...yeah...get our pics taken with the L&P bottle.
Auckland to me was interesting but then again, i didnt know what to expect. We had quite a few peeps show up which was nice and it was good to see our old friends Kingston and Falter. They both played extremely well. And yaye for Trigger Theory for being able to play a full set, woot! Once again...we were only able to play 4 songs again , this time because of time restrictions (we needed to be out of the venue after a certain time) and the power cutting out TWICE at the beginning of Falter's set didnt help either! Time restrictions or not...Mark was able to pull off a cartwheel during our set amongst the throwing and climbing that he normally does. Did anybody notice the rip in his pants when he did it? hahaha.
And thank you heaps to False Start for playing this show with us, we hope to see you down our ways soon :D

Relaxing days are always a goody so Edge City Church, Vege Cafe, JB hi-fi, Real Groovy and others were the places spent on the Sunday. I got to eat BBQ Pork! But really it was tofu with bbq flavouring ha. Thanks Dave, Shirana, Benny and Joe for taking us to Vege Cafe. Just as well all our mums live elsewhere huh :P And sorry Pete Wood for not being able to catchup with you!

So funtimes we had away and we look forward to returning sometime in the not so distant future. Just a HUGE list of thank you's for everyone who helped us out!!-

Chubbs for having us play at Primal BOTB and for your endless amount of funny stories, Justin for doing our sound-youre awesome!, Keri for helping out on the door, Josh Speeds for your incredible hospitality! Christian, Skeet and Natedogg at 27b for having Matty and Reg, Lyndall, KT and Liz for having Mark, Aaron and i, Tales! Fletcher! (Come down soon! we'd love to have you!), Maree and Hannah for the general help out, Sewa and the McElwain family for having us ALL stay in Aucks, Ben and Matt for the PA and sound-woot! Kingston and Falter-love you guys! False Start, Dave B, Shirana, Benny (again ha) and Joe for hanging out with us and introducing us to the world of vegetarianism! hehe. And Trigger Theory. We are stoked to have been able to share this mini tour with you and will hope to see you down this way soon! You guys rule!! but the HUGEST thanks has to go to Iain Stanmore who helped us more than we expected...for helping Aaron and i organise and promote the tour, for teching and driving our gear around, making signs, coming to Tauranga from Aucks etc etc! You're amazing!!!!!!

But yes. Thank you thank you thank you to EVERYONE who came to our shows and had fun. Love you all.

Aaaaaaand back to reality it is. Off to work i go! Got to earn the money somehow! ha.

luff and stuff...

Aaron’s Snare Drum Stolen After Last Night’s Tauranga Show... hace 577 días

hey kids,

After the madness of last nights show guesting at Tauranga battle of the bands someone grabbed my snare drum from the stage and took off with it...hmmm...i dont think I'm mad, it's only stuff, but I'd quite like it back cause I doubt insurance will cover it and I just don't have the $$$ to buy a new one, plus I have 2 more shows this weekend and 4 more this month.

Here's the deets:

Pearl Signature Series 'Ticco Torres'
14x6.5" aluminium free floating.
Its a matt silver colour, and for those of you who know about snares the thing whic makes it most distinct is this snare has matt wilver die cast hoops rather than shiny.

http://s100.photobucket.com/albums/m..." target="_blank">..http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m..." border="0" alt="Photobucket">

If you see anything of this description come up on trademe or ebay etc please let me know.

aaaaaand...if youre the dude who took it, if you give it back today I'll give you a high 5 and buy you the fast food of your choice...otherwise you better need the money more than me.

much love,
Aaron

Tauranga Has A Police Station?!?!?!? hace 581 días

Current mood: Hungry And Badly Wanting A Milo!!!

Hey all, Mark here killing time in Tauranga. Everyone say hello to Lyndall, Katie, Lizzie and Christian... We're staying with these guys, big ups to them.

Anyways the last couple of days have been pretty sweet. We've killed lots of time in Real Groovy Auckland and eating at places we don't have in Christchurch with some new and old friends. We picked Matt and Reg from the airport yesterday and drove straight to Tauranga making many stops along the way to ask for directions... Sweet. When we finally got there (No thanks to Malisa's geography skills) we had enough time to get ready before we hit the stage.

Playing was pretty sweet, we had a revised set and for a crowd that didn't know our songs we got a positive response. One downside though was after our usual displacement of instruments at the end of the set someone took off with Aaron's snare... Lame! It has his blood all over it so we should be able to do some dna testing to determine if it's his snare... Yup.

Anyways that's pretty much it so far. We've got a show tonight with Trigger Theory, Fletcher and Tales which should be a whole lot of fun. Come along if you live in or close to Tauranga... Hopefully Aaron's snare will show up, if anyone has some info about it then let us know asap!!!! We're off to get some breakfast and it's almost lunchtime... And the annual water week continues. L8rs!

PS - Does anyone know where the Tauranga Police Station is?
