| King Tuts? Owned for the night. | 307 dagen geleden | |||
| A massive thank you to everyone who piled into King Tuts to see the HEADLINE show! What a night! The bar's empty.I sat with Karima Francis and crew drinking my Tennents.We had all just soundchecked and had a scran and this was now the amazing build up to the show.I'm sure I'd had a few more drinks than what I said I had but it was calming for the nerves. I'm just doddling about.In and out of the dressing room,fixing my clothes,checking the hair,making sure everything is perfect.I wander back down to the bar to see a busload of people piling in.Theres an atmosphere tonight that I've never felt before,something that said it would be special. I mingle for a while and go to watch the other two acts.Adriana played first.She was very good and mellow.Her songs rung out across the room.Then Karima Francis performed with her unique and sort of crazy voice and majestic guitar.She was magic.By the time she'd finished though I had to rush to the dressing room and quickly make everything perfect.I sat at the fire exit puffing on a Windsor Blue.I've just changed into my clothes and I'm starting to feel the pressure of perfroming.Tommy my manager and Shaun my "roadie" have both psyched me up.It's time. I'm waiting to go on.Graham (the King Tuts guy) switches off the house lights.I straddle onto the stage to a great cheer.I put the guitar around me and burst into Caught Between the Earth and Sky.Theres foot stomping,clapping, and cheering all the way through it.I'm loving every second of it and so are they. I feel like I've stormed through most of my set because of the adrenaline rush and then comes the most nerveracking part.New songs.I decided to try out "Trying Too" and "Out To Sea".They go down much better than I'd imagined and theres even people trying to sing along with them.But now it's time for Tuts to shut.I'm already 10 minutes over my set time so I finish with Caroline...Wow.You can't imagine how good it is hearing people sing your songs back at you so loud for the first time,and when the songs finished and I leave the stage they still wont let me go.I had to do an encore.A cover because I'd ran out of songs. What a night.Everything just fitted together.The crowd,the headline spot (which is pretty ace for an 18 year old solo artist) and the bus back where the new chant was created! "DO DO DO DO! DAVID BATEMAN!" Mental. Thanks to everyone who came.Heres to many more! P&L Dxx | ||||

| NEW SONG LYRICS. | 332 dagen geleden | |||
| Stand in the rain.Coz we both turned our backs. Hit by a train,but I'm so off the tracks. Won't let you cry coz that would make it feel so real Don't want to fight coz its just not how I feel. I don't mean it I'm lyin,I'm sorry for trying too. I don't mean it I'm lyin,I'm sorry for trying too. I'd run all the deserts,Just to find you the rain. I'll cry all my tears.Just to see you again. Crawl through the dirt but it would make me feel so clean. I could find the words but will you know what I mean? I don't mean it I'm lyin,I'm sorry for trying too. I don't mean it I'm lyin,I'm sorry for trying too. The suns shinin through,and the smile's coming back. The lights burn back on,and I'm running these tracks. I don't mean it I'm lyin,I'm sorry for trying too. I don't mean it I'm lyin,I'm sorry for trying too. I'm so sorry for lyin,don't mean that I'm trying to. -------------------------------------------------- This is my "Hallelujah".It's a beautiful song about someone I've hurt recently and I just want this to hopefully express what I can't say. Happy New Year Dx | ||||

| Preston and Edinburgh with The Complete Stone Roses | 348 dagen geleden | |||
| Well it's long overdue that I write a blog about my time in Preston and Edinburgh with the Complete Stone Roses. It's been over 2 weeks since I went out on the road with them and to date it's definetley been one of the best experiences I've ever had. Friday morning and I'm told to meet the tour manager in Croy just outside Cumbernauld.I leave a good bit early and end up being an hour ahead of schedule.So Pedro driving the Mercedes Sprinter splitter van picks me up at the train station where we head through to Westfield to get Andy Connors,the John Squire of the group.Theres loads of gear to stick in the van including his big fucker of an amp that takes two to carry. So we're on our way to Peter Lamb (Completes Manager and founder of Pet Lamb Records) house.I'm getting all excited about my weekend.My first gig outside Scotland and my biggest EVER.The rest of the lads arrive about half an hour later and we head down to the burger van to get a good munch.You can't beat a snack bar on a cold Friday morning. So we get the van and we're on our way.It was pretty ace.An XBox,DVD,Telly,and iPod dock in this £34,000 vehicle.We sit,chat,,listen to music,have a laugh and play scabby queen while stuck in traffic.Their rules are great,basically who ever wins gets to knuckle rap the loser. So after 4 hours of sitting in the back of a van we arrive at the 53 Club.It's a pretty big venue with 2 rooms.One that holds 400 and the other 1400.The rider is more or less half gone before we even soundcheck.We've gorged ourselves on Grolsch,JD and Coke,Dairy Milk Buttons and Walkers Salt and Vinegar crisps. So I get a call for my soundcheck and everything goes to plan.A few quick strums and I'm offstage again. Me and the lads headed into town to get something to eat.They fancy chinese.I don't but I give in so we end up wandering around the town looking for food and end up going to some dear as fuck restaurant just outside the sheltered market place.We leave just as we're asked by the waiter if we'd like to order. We ended up at this all you can eat buffet about 10 minutes walk from the venue.It's £5.90 a head before 6:30pm and we gorge it down with 2 minutes to spare before the price goes to £7.00.I try and get away with a Stella put on my bill as I tell them I had a Cola but Andy is being asked by the waitress to pay for the beer he never had so my little scheme fell to pieces. We wander around for a little while and next thing we know I'm already meant to be onstage.We rush up towards the venue and I get onto the stage at the back of 8. It's a good set.Not amazing but pretty darn good.Crowd were alright themselves too if not a little underwhelming. So the Roses attack the stage with the thumping bassline to I Wanna Be Adored.400 people singing their heart out isn't too shabby.Blistering through their set they come offstage and the place is cleared out and it's hometime for us. We're more or less all blotto on the tourbus.Theres no toilet so we end up pissing in disused water bottles and getting even more drunk.By the time we're home we've went through a good few bottles and are absolutley pissed.I get a taxi home from Cumbernauld at 2:30am with Magoo and Nelly and tell them I'll see them tomorrow. Next day comes and I'm arriving at the Corn Exchange in Edinburgh.It seems so strange when it's empty.Like a big aircraft hangar or something.I have a wander round for a bit and put up a couple of posters then I meet Gordon Sedgewick.One of the best soundmen I've ever worked with.He shows me to the dressing room where it's kitted with fridges,telly,and booze.I start drinking before the lads even arrive. So it's building up.The Roses have been in for a couple of hours and we've been fed.Now it's time to soundcheck. The Completes go on and do their version of One Love and everythings fine.I ask if I can pick up a guitar and jam with them.So there I am.Holding Andys Epiphone Gibson Les in my hands playing This is The One.It's a bit slow and out of time but I think I've pulled it off.I was nervous as well in a big empty hall so imagine what It's going to be like when its full of people. Showtime. I run onstage just 2 seconds before I'm due to go on.I sort out my setlist,my drinks for onstage and my guitars then the lights shut down...My hearts thumping.As I wander onto the stage the crowd cheer pretty loudly!It's a great feeling and I can't keep myself from smiling. I tell the crowd how pleased I am to be in Edinburgh and rip them wide open with a storming When The Lights are Out. YES!They loved it.I can see plenty of familiar faces in the crowd too which is really keeping me going.I keep saying things into the mike like "Thank you" or "you lot are fucking brilliant" or "Is everyone MAD FERRIT?!" but I'm not embarrased.I'm having the time of my life.I see a pint pot flying towards me and I don't flinch.It misses.Thank god there was nothing in it but still,it means they are having a good time and if they didn't like me they're liable to piss in it. Storming through my set I feel like I've got them eating out the palm of my hand.Theres no way to describe that feeling.Like you're really achieving something and your hearing people clapping and banging barriers along with you. So I leave the stage.Gear and everything still there.I come back from a quick ciggy and clear it away and there are people trying to shake my hand all over the place and telling me they really enjoyed it.I couldn't be happier. As I leave the building I have loads of people following me asking where they can find my music or webpages and see me again. It's been a brilliant weekend for me.I hope I get to play many many more with the lads. Thank you so much to Magoo,Nelly,Andy and little Luis and a special thanks to Peter Lamb for another AMAZING opportunity. Keep it real lads.I hope you realize I will never ever forget these gigs. Till next time Dx | ||||

| Chris Helme gig | 629 dagen geleden | |||
| Was rather ace tonight.Chris was a really good bloke with really good tunes.I asked him to sign my 7" Love Is the Law single only for him to say "I've not saw one of these in years it must be worth a mint" and find it had been fucked in transit to Glasgow ALL the way through the middle which lead onto a story about him buying his first single (The re-release of Tears of a Clown by Smokey Robinson) which he sat on on the bus home and also fucked it. The gig was ace.It turned from a crowd of ten to a crowd of about 60 which I was rather pleased about.Unfortunatley my set was cut short and I only just managed to squeeze in a finale of Caught Between the Earth and Sky but who cares.I was supporting Chris Helme!It was a great night and I'd like to thank Chris for giving me the slot and I'd like to say to Beat Club security because I let 5 people stand in the lobby out of the rain before doors opened I was being kind hearted unlike you cunts who shoved them back out and kept them 15 minutes outside and then moaning at me saying I had no right to let them in and I wasn't head of the security department or owned the club.Well they werent doing any harm and were nowhere near the stairs to get to the venue so fuck you you arrogant wankers.I won't be hiring you bastards for any gigs. Over and out Davidx | ||||

| A nice gig review from The Den. | 670 dagen geleden | |||
| We set the place set up nice and sharp, Dave having dropped off his gear earlier in the day. The doors were opened again and a steady wee crowd came in to enjoy what the night was going to hold. It was nice to see familiar faces back again, and new faces here for the first time after hearing about the night. There was also a small gaggle of girls who professed to want David Bateman's children! (How they were going to accomplish this we neither need to know or imagine.) As the coffee and cakes came and went and time passed, there was the realisation that the first act was not about, and most likely wasn't going to be at all. So in a fluster of activity some more coffees were done and the house band (made up of the staff and the host of the night) assumed the stage and gave a wee thirty minute set of their own material and some much loved covers. This was mainly to pass some time and make the night worth coming to (as in not to short, not that David isn't alone enough, he is more than enough, but more about that later) and to let Mr Bateman mingle amongst the crowd tell anecdotes and some rather hilarious stories about the start of his new found career. But alas more coffee and hot chocolate called, and the time Mr Bateman needed to perform, so we buggered off stage and gave it to a pro. Dave came on, and instantly it was evident that the small quotes you hear about his charm and stage presence are true… more than true. So using the set list he made up four minutes ago from an order pad, he set about entertaining the crowd with half of his debut E.P. Photograph (with such songs as Photograph and Caroline) and also mixed the set up a bit with some old time good favourite covers like the Beatles and some covers from small local bands like Vivamelodica. He was well received and rightfully so. His voice from when he was younger and playing away has come on leaps and bounds and is worth the envy of many, and his guitar playing skills have just solidified themselves to make him a stead fast and strong player. With a sound that's bright and airy and speaks of the joy and heart ache that his lyrics put forward, his songs are all honest and from the heart and usually from his own experiences and not something abstract. With plenty time left to chew on after his planned set had finished he pulled two more songs out of the bag, including a notable cover of Here Comes the Sun by the Beatles, and left the crowd happy and most certainly wanting more from the night. | ||||

| Hi all. How are things? Tonights gig was great (despite the lack of my weary voice in parts) but I'm afraid its my last live date till the end of January/beggining of February.I have to take some time off to do a few things.Apart from being under instructions from my GP to rest my voice for a few of weeks I need to take time out of the gigging circuit to concentrate on writing new material,finding a good recording studio and practising with a full band for my new mini album that will be released in the summer hopefully.So sorry for those of you who wanted to come and see me in the near future but you can catch me in January in Falkirk and in Glasgow on the first of February if you're able.I'll be taking time off afterwards then too to record material (old and new) with a couple of members of the Complete Stone Roses so it should be pretty good when the finished product is ready.Trust me.I won't let you down.This stuff will blow your mind.Of course there will be an odd one off gig throughout the year but for now I have to love and leave.That said I'll be back throughout the summer period. Thanks for all your support again in 2007.It's been a wonderful year what with all the massive gigs and even alot of the smaller ones.I don't know what I'd do if I didn't have you lot.To friends old and new thank you so much : ) So have a very Merry Christmas and a great New Year and message me if you feel like it.It's always nice hear from people. Much love and wishes. Davidx | ||||

| Falkirk Herald review | 700 dagen geleden | |||
| BATEMAN IS BACK IN THE PICTURE TEENAGE tunesmith David Bateman is spreading his musical message to all corners of the globe thanks to the worldwide web. The 17-year-old singer songwriter from Head of Muir, Denny, has just released his debut EP 'Photograph' for download on I Tunes and Metallica's best friends Napster. The Herald met up with the excited young performer at BTW, just minutes before he was due to attend a dental appointment. And, no, it wasn't at 2.30. "These are the first songs I have ever released like this," said David. "I wouldn't have put them out if I wasn't proud of them. Hopefully they won't just be listened to by people in Scotland, but by people all over the world. "I've been trying for months to find out how I go about getting my songs on I Tunes, but this songwriting and performing is definitely what I want to do. "If you don't try then you don't get anywhere." As well as the title track, the new EP includes 'Because of You' and live versions of 'A Meaning to the Mess' and 'Caroline' – as fine an introduction to the Bateman sound as you could ever want. Apart from a gig in the first floor of Glasgow's Barrowlands that was "a bit of a downer", David has been keeping a bit of a low profile in recent months, working on his EP and temporarily dropping off the live music scene radar. That's about to change, however, with a string of gigs coming up in Glasgow and Stirling in the next few months. He also has a Christmas engagement with Alloa-based covers band Poles Apart, who he still plays guitar with. "I'll be with them at the switch on of Alloa Christmas lights," said David. "I enjoy the spotlight when I'm on my own, but I know if I left the band I would miss it." David has supported The Draytones in Stirling's Fubar and played Edinburgh's Liquid Rooms this year and his talents have stimulated interest from one John Dawkins, the man who discovered current chart darlings The Enemy. The Bateman bus rolls into Glasgow's Liquid Ship on September 25 and The Rio Cafe on October 10. He will be stopping off closer to home in Stirling at Dr Gormans on September 30, The Arches on October 27 and the Tolbooth on December 21. | ||||

| "The highlight of the weekend for me was, without a doubt, the band mentoring session on Friday night. Not only because I found new skills as a camera woman, but because I was introduced to the sensational young talent of David Bateman. The teenage singer/songwriter is already very professional, and has some fabulous songs. David has a really down to earth attitude, and I really hope he makes it big. You can't fault him on anything. He's got the looks, the voice, the attitude. I can imagine him supporting legends in the near future"-Jill,BBC Scotland Thanks very much Jill : ) Davidx | ||||
