| So i didnt stick to it word for word, but heres pretty much it! It’s amazing how much one place can change in just one year. In fact we’ve seen almost a complete rebirth of the unit this year. We’ve seen the relocation from Omaka to Woodbourne, the arrival of two officers and the departure of some. As someone who’s been around the place for a meager five years, it’s been a quick, quiet and efficient rebuild with the help of the foundations laid out. And these sorts of things don’t just happen on there own either... It takes a few groups of dedicated people to run things, and I think it’s fair that I highlight them out to everyone here today. As modest as this lot are, they defiantly deserve any recognition that can be given so here we go The first bunch are our officers, despite he strife we put them through, they still decide to throw on a uniform and dedicate not just a night with us by hours more of there own time planning things like camps, flying days and shoots. Id like everyone to show their appreciation for PLTOFF Jeremy Lamb, SQNLDR Kim Wilemse and the boss SQNLDR Peter Carter. The Second group is some people who work very quietly in the background, so quietly that we hardly ever hear them let alone see them. Yet their job is just as crucial as any other man or woman. And that’s the job of the support committee. Their job is defiantly worth more than a box of chocolates! So could we please show our appreciation for Treasurer Peter Sanguine, Secretary Robin Katting and Chairman Wayne Tupe. The last lot is these guys standing at the back of the room. Funnily enough a Cadet Unit never seems to work very well without cadets... In saying that, those sons, daughters, wards, friends and relations are the ones who make the 27 Sqn, 27 Sqn. They are the present and the future of this thriving unit. And its has been an honor to have known worked with the lot of you. Make sure you go and apply for every course that comes your way. The thing I’m really up here to talk about today however is something that came with the unit when we got here. As soon as I saw it, I knew I was going to have to make a big song and dance about it… So here it is [display toilet seat] I considered making it into a monthly prize for the NCO who made the biggest fool of themselves or something similar. But that would’ve been far too easy. So I sat down and thought to myself: Now what are the positive qualities of a toilet seat? The list is quite extensive so here’s a few. A toilet needs to be robust and strong-willed. To be looked upon with regard, a toilet seat needs to be tidy. It needs to be able to do its job and do it well every time. A toilet seat never discriminates against race, religion, sex, age or colour. The seat under the right conditions can be rather cold and uncomfortable. Also, it can be warm too. It’s quite hard to break a toilet seat. In fact they are designed that way. You always always always notice when the toilet seat is missing. And despite all the above, there is always something funny about a toilet seat. Now once the list appeared, I realized something. A lot of these qualities are qualities we look for in our NCOs. It was about now I realized how little our CPLs and now our LACs are recognized at prize giving… So with that Id like to announce the inaugural winner of the Toilet Seat Award for overall dedication and Endeavour seen in a JNR NCO to CPL Katting. And just as finishing interest, here’s a few snippets from a blog I found on a British air cadets website entitled: You Know you’ve been in ATC too long when 1. You walk in step with people in front of you. 15. You find polishing shoes relaxing. 21. You correct people on the pronunciation of 'Corps'. 33. You automatically look up to the sky if you hear a plane... 38. You'd rather iron your uniform than do that homework. 52. You've seen Top Gun... more than three times. 53. You’ve called your friends by their last names 54. You automatically think ATC when you see the number 27 56. You know what 'monkey marching' is... and physically CAN'T do it. 62. You've got enough left over bits of ration packs to make a new one! And enough wind/waterproof matches to start a bonfire! 80. You have a dedicated 'Cadets' or 'ATC' folder on your computer. 81. Said ATC folder has many sub-folders... And finally... 100. You can't leave and you don't know why... Thanx everybody, Its been a blast! | |||
