UCAN IN PROGRESS!!!763 Tage her

UCAN is proud to announce that theUCAN CANCER CARE CENTRE, on Ward 44 at the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, is officially open!! It is the first of its kind in Scotland and is being made possible by a partnership between NHS Grampian, the UCAN charity, local business leaders, and those who generously donate to UCAN.
The centre offers a friendly, welcoming environment for patients and relatives, with opportunities for browsing educational material, visiting accredited websites, or simply relaxing over a cup of coffee with others in a similar position. There is also a private area for discussion with medical staff and specialist nurses.
This is incredible news for UCAN patients; significantly empowering anyone affected by Urological Cancer!!

Also UCAN is making significant progress with its unique ON-LINE FORUM —accessed via our website www.ucanhelp.org.uk. “Newly diagnosed patients will thereby benefit from the experience of those who have already undergone a similar journey of care”. It allows for personal discussions, the sharing of concerns and suggestions, and great peer support.

HOW YOU ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE! UCAN relies completely on support from generous people as yourselves, without which the above progressions would not be made possible. With each donation we are one step further to tackling cancer!!

KEEP YOUR PLUMS RIPE!!!!772 Tage her

Getting acquainted with your equipment could save your life.

TESTICULAR
SELF-EXAMINATION – KEEP YOUR PLUMS RIPE!!

Check your testicles once a month. Its best to check when your testicles are warm and hanging loosely, and the skin of the scrotum is soft.

 Hold the scrotum in the palm of your hand and notice the size and weight of each testicle. Examine each testicle in turn. Using both hands, roll the testicle between the fingers and thumbs. The testicles should feel smooth.

Look for any lumps, hard areas or swellings. Remember that it is normal to have one testicle handing lower that the other.

 Notice that there is a small lump at the top and back of the testicles – the epididymis, where the sperm is stored - this is NORMAL. Learn to recognise these normal lumps so that you can detect NEW abnormal lumps.

 Check both testicles carefully. Other possible signs include dull ache in the groin or abdomen, heaviness in the scrotum, or pain in the testicle itself.

KEEP YOUR
PLUMS RIPE!

Testicular cancer responds particularly well to treatment if caught early, over 9 in 10 patients are cured. Remember that anything unusual in the testicles is not necessarily a sign of cancer. However, visit your G.P straight away about anything that is unusual.
