It's hard to believe that just five months ago, Britney Spears shocked the world by holing up inside her home with her youngest son Jayden James while the authorities attempted to return the one-year-old child to the custody of his father, Kevin Federline.

But on May 26, it was not only a completely different scene but a different Britney who snuggled and played with her sons Sean Preston,2, and Jayden,21 months, as the little family rang in the Memorial Day holiday at her Studio City, Calif., home.

"Sean Preston wouldn't let go of Britney," an eyewitness tells OK!. "He didn't want to leave her side. Every time she tried to put him down, he would clinch himself closer to her." At one point, the toddler hit his hand, and ran to his mother for comfort. "Sean started crying, and then he was resting his head on Britney's shoulder."

Friends say Britney has finally accepted the help she needs to get better, taking her court-mandated parenting classes seriously and even reading self-help books — most recently Jack Canfield's Key to Living the Law of Attraction: A Simple Guide to Creating the Life of Your Dreams.

Pals of the singer say it's this commitment to recovery that is finally allowing Britney to become the mother she always meant to be.

"Her biggest regret is losing her boys, and now's the time to put that right," a source tells OK!. Her efforts seem to be working. On May 6, she was finally awarded more time during her visitation--a boost from 9 hours a week to 27.

Britney Recording Sixth Studio Album 8th May 2008
A report in "The Sun" states that Britney is recording her sixth studio album for release near Christmas this year, up against a high profile comeback from Whitney Houston, and now Bloodshy has confirmed to fans on MySpace that she is, indeed, working on a new studio album, hence her singing lessons and regular visits to the recording studio each day. A source told "The Sun," the demos are 'impressive' and that 'Britney has been on fire in the studio of late. She is determined to make a triumphant comeback.'

"Radar" To Be Fourth Single From "Blackout" 7th May 2008
"Radar" will be the fourth single from Britney's fifth album, "Blackout," hitting stores in July 2008, with a video to precede it in June; it is as yet unknown if Britney will appear in person or if the video will be an animated sequel to "Break The Ice." The song was recorded in late 2006, and The Clutch, who co-wrote the song with Bloodshy & Avant, said, "Honestly, I know me personally, I’ve wanted to work with Britney Spears forever to be honest. So honestly, I don’t think for any of us it was hard. I think we all wanted to work with Britney and we were motivated to give her something that was great that was going to help her project become a great project to come back with. We went in and sat down to create a record for the Britney Spears that we know and love."

Court Hearing: Britney To Receive Increased Visitation 6th May 2008
For the first time since October, Britney Spears arrived in court regarding her on-going custody battle with ex-husband, Kevin Federline, resulting in an increase in the amount of visitation she can have with her two children, Jayden James and Sean Preston. According to reports, Britney left the court with her parents and attorney, smiling and happy, with Federline's lawyer, Mark Vincent Kaplan, once again talking to the press, saying, Kevin's "goal is his children will have the benefit of two parents participating actively in their lives; we are pleased with the progress that seems to be occurring. I think the children are doing really great, and that is the key question." Allan Parachini, a representative for Jamie & Lynne Spears, said, "We are so pleased with Britney's progress and we are very appreciative of the courts recognition of this progress. There was a modification of the pre-existing custody order. There will be a progress report on 15th July, and another court hearing sometime in August."

Fabolous Gives Britney Spears' Musical Comeback A Helping Hand
Hip-hop star Fabolous is helping Britney Spears get her pop career back on track - he's recorded a song for her forthcoming album. The Trade It All rapper was recently called into the studio to record his part of the song, but admits he was a little disappointed when he found out Spears wasn't going to be attending the session herself.

He tells MTV.com, "I didn't get to kick it with (Spears), but the people from her record label was on top of that..."

And after all her personal troubles at the start of 2008, Fabolous hopes she will soon be back to her best: "I don't know what condition Britney is in right now. Hopefully - more power to her - she'll get in a better space and position. Somebody needs to sit her down, let her know what the deal is."

Spears has since returned to work for the first time since her mental breakdowns in January - on Monday she was spotted at Hollywood's Alleycat Recording Studio, the same day her cameo appearance on How I Met Your Mother aired on CBS to glowing reviews.

Source: Star pulse

audience understood from the get-go that Britney Spears’s cameo role on Monday night’s How I Met Your Mother was more about damage control than acting.

Her challenge was clear: Demonstrate that, even though she seems in recent months to have been traveling through life on the roaring, ragged edge of a tornado, she could still stop and stand still long enough to perform on camera, be as naturally charming as the role permitted, and let the audience conclude: “Well, she SEEMS all right. She seems like Britney.”

And she did all that in the space of a few mild comic moments. At least she balanced out that weird MTV awards appearance last fall where she looked like a Bond girl who’d come out of a coma.

Her part on the CBS sitcom wasn’t as cartoonishly flamboyant as her 2006 appearance on Will & Grace, as Amber-Louise, the Southern conservative co-host of a gay talk show. This time she played Abby, a humdrum receptionist in the office of a dermatologist.

In fact, the very first shot of the half-hour was of Britney at her receptionist’s desk, staring off like some girl in a Vermeer painting, or perhaps more precisely like Scarlett Johansson in a movie about Vermeer.

Frankly, I would have made the entire half-hour an ingenious stunt: Everything was happening IN THE HEAD of this sad, dreamy girl. But that was not the plot: Ted (Josh Radnor), undergoing a series of laser treatments to remove a tattoo, had a crush on the dermatologist doing the zapping (Scrubs’s Sarah Chalke), but the doctor kept resisting his efforts at flirtation.

The receptionist, meanwhile, developed a crush on Ted.

The script didn’t make much of this potential triangle. Britney mostly smiled with a sort of likable, hopeful pathos (except for one brief moment, when she handed the doctor a file with a bluntness that seemed inexplicably hostile).

Well, what’s wrong with likable, hopeful pathos? Plenty of celebrities would kill for even that.

But her best scene came at the very end: Abby, letting herself be seduced by the ridiculously rakish Barney (Neil Patrick Harris), unexpectedly and enthusiastically upped the ante. It was a sort of fantasy validation: This loser secretary, who tried to find herself reading self-help books, was transformed into a fun girl with thoughts only of uncomplicatedly naughty good times.

As she bolted from the office with Harris, it was as if Britney were rushing out to meet her former self. – Tom Gliatto

Britney Spears on "How I Met Your Mother"

A guest appearance by Britney Spears on Monday gave the CBS sitcom "How I Met Your Mother" its highest rating ever.

"Mother" spiked to a series high 4.5 preliminary rating among adults 18-49, even as the rest of the CBS comedy lineup fell from last week's record-setting return to original episodes.

Critics were relatively impressed. "Britney the Trainwreck showed how she can still be Britney the Performer," wrote the Associated Press. "Spears proved she can act every bit as well as she can sing," wrote the New York Daily News.

The second week of strong "Mother" ratings (10.6 million, 4.5/12) assures the one-time bubble comedy will be renewed for the fall. "Mother" was the fourth-highest-rated show of the evening, and CBS won the night (averaging 12.5 million, 4.4/11).

At 10 p.m., "CSI: Miami" was the first major broadcast network drama to return with post-strike original episodes. "Miami" easily won the 10 p.m. hour and outperformed its previous season average by 7% (15.8 million, 4.8/12).

CBS' other comedies dropped slightly from their post-strike returns last week, however. "Big Bang" was down 6% (8.6 million, 3.4/10), "Two and a Half Men" was the highest-rated show of the night but also fell 6% (14.2 million, 5.1/13), and "The New Adventures of Old Christine" dropped 12% (9.9 million, 3.8/9).

ABC was second with the second week of "Dancing With the Stars" falling off 11% and "The Bachelor" dropping a steeper 16% to place last in the 10 p.m. hour, matching its series low amid the increased competition from "Miami."

Fox and NBC tied for third. NBC aired "My Dad Is Better Than Your Dad," dropping to a new all-time low and going below the line for a major broadcast network series (7.1 million, 1.2/3). NBC then aired "Deal or No Deal" (7.1 million, 3.0/7) and "Medium" (8.8 million, 3.0/8) . Fox had a repeat and "New Amsterdam" (6.3 million, 2.0/5).

The CW had a repeat and "Girlicious" (1.5 million, 0.8/2)

Britney was back to work at Alley Cat Recording Studio today (we spotted her there last year before she headed out on her House of Blues tour) -- what is the Queen B doing there???

Come on, Brit, we're dying to know! Are you preparing for an upcoming performance? For another single? For another album?

And how'd Brit unwind after a hard day at work? Dinner at one of her favorite restaurants, Dominic's.

X17online was there exclusively as Brit entered with her bodyguard and assistant. Our source inside the restaurant tells us Britney enjoyed shrimp cocktail and red wine. She was sitting with her assistant at the table and at one point during the meal, someone came to the table and brought a stack of papers to Brit. Another script, perhaps?!

Cheers to getting back to work, Brit!

Will Britney be able to get back into the spotlight and get healthy at the same time?

Britney Spears’ second release from the psych ward was a gold mine for the paparazzi.

Between tabloids, her recording career and her life in general, the revenue generated from all things Britney brought in up to $120 million in the past year. But now that Britney is staying home, is the business of Britney in a recession?

"Since her father has her under his control, we certainly haven't seen the number of photos that we used to see coming in of Britney," X-17 co-owner Brandy Navarre told Access Hollywood. "The subject of the photo is just not as interesting as it once was, so the prices do go down."

X-17 saw a 10 percent increase in overall profits with the help of exclusive photos like bald Britney, which made them a half-million dollars.

Now, with the pop star’s recent cleaned-up behavior, the amount of Britney pictures are way down – from more than 1,000 a day to a couple hundred, forcing the photo agency to change focus.

"It’s a different game now," Navarre explained. "It's a different challenge. We're moving on to other celebrities like Brad [Pitt] and Angelina [Jolie and] Jamie Lynn Spears. We’ve moved on to Britney’s sister."

Britney Spears Has 'Great Comic Timing,' Say The Stars Of 'How I Met Your Mother'
Alyson Hannigan and Jason Segel tell TV Guide that the pop star impressed them as a 'spazzy' receptionist with a crush on Ted.
When you first see Britney Spears, she'll be a nerd, but just wait — as her episode of "How I Met Your Mother" goes on, she'll gradually become more like the sex symbol we used to know and love. At least, as much as a dermatologist's receptionist can be.

In the episode, called "Ten Sessions," Ted Mosby (Josh Radnor) wants to get an embarrassing butterfly tattoo removed, and he wants to see if his dermatologist, Dr. Stella Zinman (played by "Scrubs" star Sarah Chalke), will fall for him in the process — but he hooks Spears' character Abby instead, without realizing it. Abby starts off being mousy, wearing glasses and cardigans, but she transforms herself to win over Ted.

"She has a total spazzy crush on Ted," show co-creator Craig Thomas told TV Guide.

As Ted's sessions continue, so do Abby's attempts to get his attention with sexier hairdos and clothing, and frequent nervous laughter. In a video clip from the episode, Ted asks to see the doctor.

"I'll let her know," Abby responds but continues to stare longingly at him, without picking up the phone.

"Telepathically?" he asks.

"That's funny!" she laughs awkwardly. "Ha! That's funny, smart and great!"

By his next appointment, Abby is reading the book, "The Power of Me," that he had brought with him during his last session. She notices he's starting to grow a mustache, and comments, "Love the 'stache! You look like a young Tom Selleck, only a million times handsomer." Without taking her eyes off him, she calls her boss and says, "Dr. Zinman, Magnum's here to see you." After a beat, she tells Ted, "Just kidding."

"[Spears] was so funny, and she already had her character down pat," Alyson Hannigan, who plays Lily on the show, told TV Guide. "I had no idea she had such great comic timing."

Perhaps the pop star hasn't forgotten what she learned mixing sketch comedy with song and dance on "The Mickey Mouse Club." Jason Segel, who plays Marshall on the show, told TV Guide that Spears contributed to the episode's dialogue with a few improvised lines that were "really good."

"She came up with stuff that had everyone laughing," Segel said. "She's definitely a comedian."

So, with such approval from the cast, could Spears be back for another appearance? After all, the promo for the episode shows her in a conversation with Barney (Neil Patrick Harris), which seems to reveal that she might have moved on to Ted's friend, since she asks him, "Can we have sex and then go shopping?"

"The episode ends on a funny note that I won't give away," Thomas said. "But it definitely leaves it open for her to come back."

TROUBLED BRITNEY SPEARS’ family are to force her to quit LA and return to Louisiana.

Her dad JAMIE SPEARS, who was recently granted control of her affairs, plans to take her back to the family home away from “bad influences”.

He will file a court request to get Britney, 26, away from the clubs, drugs — and cheating ex-lover ADNAN GHALIB.

A Spears family source said: “Britney has been feeling lonely and isolated since her dad has taken control of her life.

“He hopes to take her back to Louisiana where she will be surrounded by her family. Jamie also hopes it will give her the chance to mend her troubled relationship with her mum and her more recent rift with her pregnant sister.

“And he hopes to keep her away from the negative LA scene and people who’ve been using her.”

In recent weeks the star has made a good recovery. She has remained off drugs and has been working on her next music video.

But her affairs will still be run by her dad and she is unable to see former manager SAM LUFTI who has been issued with a restraining order.

Britney still faces a driving without a licence charge in LA after being nabbed last August.

Britney is back and with a vengeance!

The once and future Princess of Pop is regrouping, reprioritizing and getting her life and career back on track.

Spears is also keeping busy with new projects and focusing on the future.

A source close to Britney reveals exclusively to PerezHilton.com that she is going to open her own dance studio."

"It will be right near Millennium [her favorite dance studio in the Valley," says our source. "And she plans to call it The Basement."

Spears has recently been teaching classes to children at Millennium, and opening her own dance studio is the natural evolution from that.

Good for her! We wish Britney all the best.

It was a chaotic Monday for Britney Spears. She showed up late to her court custody hearing (hey, at least she showed!), saw the paparazzi crush and turned right back around, getting back into her car and driving off for a day of shopping, praying and, well, more driving.

Now the pop star has lost both custody and visitation rights with her precious sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James and, as an insider reveals only in the new issue of OK!, friends fear she may seek to heal her loneliness by having another child — this time with her married paparazzo boyfriend, Adnan Ghalib!

Britney was photographed checking out a pregnancy test at a Rite Aid Monday afternoon. She and Adnan shopped for the test at the pharmacy, following her disappearance from court that day. While at the Rite Aid, the pair also filled out a prescription.

"Britney hates when things are taken from her," a family member of Kevin Federline tells OK!. "The court's taken Preston and Jayden away, so she'll just have another kid to take their place. That's the way she thinks."

And this year was no exception. In total the three categories attracted a staggering total of 949,800 votes.

Britney Spears was hardly out of the headlines last year for issues relating to her private life, and she's in the limelight again this week after earning top spot in hellomagazine.com's Most Attractive Woman poll with 29 per cent of the vote. The 26-year-old singer, who clearly impressed fans with the trim new figure she unveiled last year, beat off competition from fellow songbird Delta Goodrem, who came a close second with 26 per cent.

Over 110,000 votes were cast in the Most Attractive Woman poll, which had Britney leading the field in a long list of beauties including third place winner Spice Girl Mel C, and shipping heiress Athina Onassis. And in a ranking dominated by pop singers, last year's winner Angelina Jolie headed up the list of representatives from the world of acting - coming in fourth with nine per cent of the vote.
KENTWOOD, La. - Half the Kentwood Historical and Cultural Arts Museum is dedicated to an exhibit honouring local men and women who served in the U.S. armed forces. The rest is Britney.

You can see Britney Spears' awards, the jacket she wore on "The All New Mickey Mouse Club," painstakingly crafted re-creations of her childhood bedroom and the stage she performed on in an HBO concert special.

Signs of enduring love in Kentwood, population 2,200, for a hometown girl turned good - and lately, not so good.

"I cry every time I see another story about her on television," said Pam Wright, 44, who works at a convenience store along Kentwood's main drag, U.S. Highway 51. "I think she needs to come home and we'll get her right again. Everybody here loves her. We believe in her."

As the 26-year-old singer's meltdown morphs through broken marriages, hospitalization, her two sons removed from her custody and bizarre behaviour, residents of Kentwood stand by their marquee native.

"The media should leave her alone," said store clerk Becky Gill, 35. "Everybody has problems, she's not the only one. But she's the one gets her problems on television. She's the one under constant scrutiny."

Amid its abandoned buildings and a dying dairy industry, Kentwood is known for Kentwood Springs - a Gulf Coast brand of bottled water - and for Spears. She grew up in a ranch-style house near town where her father, Jamie, still lives.

Driving into the town about 145 kilometres north of New Orleans, you can't miss the hot-pink sign that welcomes visitors to "The home of Britney Spears."....
Britney Spears has a new accessory to go with her pink wig: a British accent.

In the last several weeks, Spears, 26, has been videotaped numerous times trading her Louisiana twang for U.K. inflections.

"She had the English accent thing going the whole time" while shopping at Kitson last Thursday, according to a source. "It didn't stop."

Even when angry, the accent appears. On an L.A. shopping trip to Macy's on Jan. 13, she screamed at the paparazzi, "Get out of my G------ face!" – in a British accent.

So is it all in fun or has she flipped her pink wig?

"When someone has dissociative identity disorder" – formally known as multiple personality disorder – "each identity is split off from the other," says L.A. psychologist Renee A. Cohen, who is not treating Spears. "Each would have its own name, memories, behavioral traits and emotional characteristics."

Cohen says the critical question is: "When Britney uses the British accent, or appears to take on another identity, does she know she's Britney Spears?"

"Otherwise, she could simply be behaving this way for attention, for sympathy, or any other reason," adds Cohen. "It's foolish to attempt to diagnose her without a formal evaluation."

One possible influence could be Spears's maternal grandmother, Lillian Bridges, who was originally from England.

Also, Spears's new beau, photographer Adnan Ghalib, grew up in Birmingham, England.

According to paparazzi who trail the singer around the clock, one thing is for sure: the pink wig means something's changing.

"When she puts on the pink wig, you just know something crazy is about to happen," said one paparazzo.

Britney Spears is responsible for the publication of the “personal” photos of her and her kids that have found their way into the pages of OK! Magazine for two weeks running. The photos, which are beautiful, were rumored to have been sold to the mag by photographer Dani Brubaker, but a source familiar with Spears’ negotiations says that is not true.

“That’s absolutely made up, there is no lawsuit,” said the source. “In fact, Britney loves all of this. Look how gorgeous she looks.”

The source went on to say that this is at least one case where Spears should be given credit for playing the public well. “She’s a savvy fox. The week she loses her kids, these pictures that were taken months ago suddenly show up. It’s brilliant. She knew what was going to happen (with that custody hearing) and how she’d fight back.”

One person who is furious over the photos is Sam Lutfi, the most recent castoff from Spears’ island. “He’s been trying to sell pictures of Britney he took himself,” said one source who has fielded calls from Lutfi. “He’s furious that he’s been cut out of her life, which is why he calls and passes along ‘information’ every chance he gets.”

Most recently, Lutfi approached news outlets saying that Spears was not pregnant, despite photos of Spears perusing pregnancy tests at a Studio City, Calif., Rite Aid. “He doesn’t know if she’s pregnant. He hasn’t talked to her in ages. The only person who would know is Britney.”Britney Spears will host a party, The Scandinavian Style Mansion, at a private residence in Beverly Hills on Feb. 16, PEOPLE has learned.

Britney last hosted the event – at which Scandinavian brands are showcased – on Dec. 1. At that party, she was presented with a birthday cake and bumped into her one-time BFF Paris Hilton.

"Britney has said 'yes,' to hosting it," Claus Hjelmbak, the Danish businessman who founded the event, tells PEOPLE. "I am beyond excited because the experience she gave everyone in December was amazing. She absolutely made my event."

Hjelmbak, who was at Spears's side when she and Sam Lutfi went on an early morning shopping spree Jan. 17 at Kitson in L.A., told PEOPLE of the outing: "I know people will say it's weird she was shopping at 2 a.m., but [Kitson] said you guys can always come when you want. I just called the owner and said can we come over and they said 'sure.'"

Hjelmbak also has kind words for Lutfi, saying, "He's the most down-to-earth, easy-going guy. He doesn't have a bad bone in his body." As for Adnan Ghalib, he said, "I don't know him."

As for online reports claiming Spears has multiple personalities, Hjelmbak, who first met Britney in 2006, says, "I have only seen one person and that's the Britney I first met and seen every time. She's a very sweet person."

Source: People Sources are now painting a very disturbing picture of Britney Spears, or whoever she happens to be at any given moment.

We're told the whole British accent thing -- well, it's more than an accent. Britney has multiple personalities, including, as people in her life call it, "the British girl." We're told when Spears loses the British personality, she has absolutely no idea what she did during the time she assumed that personality.

Sources say Brit has a number of other identities, where she becomes "the weepy girl, the diva, the incoherent girl," and on and on.

Sources say Britney had become the British girl the day she didn't show for her deposition and has no recollection of it.

suspect the same thing that keeps us watching Michael Jackson, or Paris Hilton, or O.J. Simpson.

We like to see train wrecks. Or what we think will be train wrecks.

We like to see people on edge. And hopefully, going over the edge.

Britney, of course, is in a sad league of her own.

But the theme is remarkably similar. People who had it all seemingly losing it all, and we've got a front row seat to their unwinding.

To their SUV arriving at a fateful courthouse, or their SUV taking them from a courthouse.

Maybe there's something about the powerful looking pathetic. Some secret delight in seeing Hillary Clinton allegedly unraveling.

Or four years earlier Howard Dean definitely unraveling.

I guess in an overly rehearsed and programmed world, it is refreshing to see what image-makers hope we do not.

Very human, very vulnerable, and sometimes, just very nutty.

Psychologists say we're seeing more people losing it today. Maybe because there are a lot more pressures today. And a lot more media today.

So I guess that means, no, you're definitely not going crazy. Stars are going crazy.

The difference this time, there are helicopters and cameras everywhere to make sure you don't miss a single shot.

Commissioner Scott M. Gordon ruled that Britney's visitation privileges will remain suspended till the next hearing scheduled on February 19.

The ruling came after an eventful day during which the court heard testimony from witnesses of Britney's meltdown Thursday night, January 3 that included two LAPD officers, Britney's parenting coach Lisa Hacker and bodyguard Loni Jones.

Earlier in the day Britney drove up to the courthouse with picked-of-the-street beau Adnan Ghalib to testify personally, as she was earnestly advised by her lawyers to do, but drove away without entering.

She was later seen entering the Little Brown Church in Van Nuys, Calif. where, witnesses tell OK! magazine, the custody challenged mama had another minor meltdown.

According to x17online, she left a note for the prayer box reading "God Bless Me."

The troubled pop-star next drove with Adnan to Gaucho Grill on Ventura Blvd. where the couple and Britney's manager Sam Lutfi enjoyed a meal.

A witness at the restaurant told OK!, "She had cried all of her makeup off."

"She needed help walking and standing," the witness added.

Britney drove back to her home at The Summit around 3:45pm PT and did not attempt to return to the court.

Apparently, Britney Spears is not completely lacking in maternal instincts after all.

Amid much frenzy, the troubled pop star finally showed up at the Los Angeles County Courthouse around 1:30 pm Monday, ostensibly to fight for the right to see her boys.

However, Spears pal Sam Lutfi told E! News via text message that the throngs of paparazzi awaiting the singer's arrival made it impossible for her to enter the building, as there was "no way to get her out of the car safely." Spears' entourage, including current boyfriend Adnan Ghalib, circled three times before giving up.

As the morning session of the custody hearing wound down with no sign of Spears, multiple sources told E! News that she was weighing the possibility of showing up for the afternoon session. Her lawyer, Sorrell Trope, even phoned the pop star from the courthouse, imploring her to come.

Instead, Lutfi told E! News he took Spears to church and then to get some lunch. The group dined at a Gaucho Grill restaurant near her Studio City home. In the meantime, the hearing resumed without her..... In a chaotic scene, Britney Spears arrived at her child-custody hearing Monday – but left the courthouse after paparazzi surrounded her.

"I'm scared. I want to get in the car. I'm going in the car," she said after stepping out of the car as photographers crowded around her.

Spears, 26, then got back in the car. Police tried to coax her out, but she slammed her back against the seat and shouted, "No!"

Spears's car eventually drove off, and she didn't make it to the afternoon session of the hearing.

The troubled pop singer stayed home during the hearing's morning session, which ex-husband Kevin Federline, 29, attended.

Spears was not legally required to go, and she originally had "no plans" to do so, according to a source. But another source said her legal team "strongly advised" her to attend, and by the lunch break her lawyer said he was "hopeful" she'd show in the afternoon.

About 1:15 p.m., her car arrived at the courthouse. In a confusing sequence of events, the car at one point pulled into the garage, and at another point Spears got out for a few seconds, when she said she was scared and got back in. The car also was seen driving around the block, and at least once it pulled up to the curb, was met by photographers, and drove away.
Kevin Federline arrived at Los Angeles Superior Court's Stanley Mosk Building Monday morning for the latest round in his ongoing custody fight with ex-wife Britney Spears.

Shortly after 9 a.m. (the hearing was scheduled to begin at 9:30), Federline appeared, wearing a blue pinstripe suit and looking confident and upbeat.

As the hearing time passed, Spears, 26, remained at home. A source said she had "no plans" to attend the session. Another source said she had been "strongly advised" by her legal team to attend the hearing, adding that the singer was told that "her attendance is important."

The court gathering is expected to focus on Spears's four-hour Jan. 3 standoff with police, firefighters and paramedics at her Studio City home. Events that evening resulted with Spears being hospitalized at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

Federline, 29, currently retains sole legal and physical custody of the couple's two sons, Preston, 2, and Jayden, 1. Spears was stripped of all visitation rights following her hospitalization.

Also at issue Monday is whether the court will extend its ban on Spears's visitation. Federline's lawyer, Mark Vincent Kaplan, told PEOPLE that it's possible Spears might not see her children until April, when the ex-couple's custody trial begins. (Federline has requested primary physical custody.)

Over the weekend, Spears continued to be seen with paparazzo Adnan Ghalib, 35. Among their stops were a Mercedes dealership and a department store, where Spears reportedly shouted a profanity at a bystander who attempted to take her photo.

If magic man Criss Angel had his way, Britney Spears‘ 2007 VMAs Performance would have turned out much, much, much differently.

The L.A. Times recently spoke with the 40-year-old magician to hear his original ideas for Britney’s VMAs performance. Here’s what he said:

“With Britney I presented concepts to create, within her performance, illusions that would happen in the open. You would see Britney and then she would split into two Britneys and then four Britneys with no boxes or covers. It would just be a visual effect using no screens. People in the past have used the art of magic in music performances but mostly in a cheesy way. Magic has not kept up with popular culture and technology.

“Other things I wanted to do with her was to literally transform her into birds and then for her to reappear in the audience. I also thought of having her levitate over the audience. It was going to be really visual moments that were all epic tableaux that were beautiful, artistic, elegant and, most important, unique — things MTV hasn’t seen in music. I wanted to captivate people in the moment. That was the essence of what I wanted to do with the Britney performance, because I think the performance she did with the snake was a highlight of her career and I wanted to trump that and I thought we had it.”

So, what happened?

“Britney is really strong with her own ideas. And what I had planned wasn’t an easy thing to do and would have required a lot of rehearsals. Ultimately, I told her I needed 100% commitment or I wasn’t going to be able to do this. I told her that, ‘You have to feel comfortable.’ So, we explored it and she decided it wasn’t for her, and I completely understand.”

Sounds like it would have been an unforgettable performance to see Britney split herself into four. Not that her actual performance wasn’t unforgettable to begin with! If only Britney gave it her all…What do you find most interesting about today’s entertainment world? It seems more celebrity-driven.

Well, I don’t think it is. There’s just more paparazzi. And there are more newspapers and more magazines and more cable channels. It’s just more exposure. We had a radio. Now you have 14,000 cable channels. You know, people are running around like chickens trying to suck all the strength out of the huge stars. It’s really too much. And they’re too tough on the young people. They take pictures of the children or follow the star to the park. They have way stepped over the bounds. They have to give them a life; give them a chance to enjoy their lives. And then the stars will share theirs with them. That’s what we did.

Maybe it wasn’t so obsessive 20, 30 years ago?

We just didn’t have that many paparazzi. We had only 100 in the front yard, instead of 200. I had plenty of press. Like Brad and Jennifer and Angelina, we had me and Eddie and Elizabeth Taylor. And so that was a big scandal, but we tried to let them take pictures of us and give them statements, and we did the best we could with trying to include them. So, that’s what you have to do. But when they run into your car…I mean, they are really after Britney for some reason more than anybody. I think they should get over themselves and leave her alone. It’s too much. It’s just embarrassing. And it’s not her fault. I mean, it was, but now it isn’t.

Lindsay Lohan’s dad says watching the Britney Spears drama is painfully close to home - saying he thinks the troubled star is “lost”.

Michael Lohan had to watch his own famous daughter publicly battle her demon. Now he sympathises with Spears’ parents, as well as the famous TV shrink who was slammed for trying to help the desperate popstar.

When asked about Spears, Lohan said: “I think she’s in a blank space right now. “I think she really needs her family there for her, first and foremost. I believe she needs God in her life.

Lynne Spears

Despite reports that Britney Spears and her mom, Lynne, are regularly feuding, PageSix.com has learned that the ladies are in touch -- through Brit's lawyers!

Michael Flanagan, Brit's attorney in her driving without a license case, tells PageSix.com exclusively, "I talk quite frequently with Britney's mom, and her manager Sam Lutfi." Though Flanagan can't reveal the details of those talks, he says they cover updates on the case's progress. He adds, "Lynne is a great lady and loves her daughter dearly."

Meanwhile, well-placed sources close to Brit's custody lawyer, Anne Kiley, say that she is in touch with Lynne as well. Although the mother and daughter's relationsip is far from ideal, "There is a lot of love between Britney and her mom, and they have a very complex relationship."

Sources tell "The Insider" that the gates surrounding BRITNEY SPEARS' community are besieged with cops, camera crews and even a helicopter hovering overhead.

Police officers are busy moving cars in an effort to control the media coverage that has been swelling ever since Britney returned home from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center earlier today.

Britney Spears was already packing to leave Cedars-Sinai hospital in Los Angeles on Saturday morning when she got a visit from a family friend — psychologist and television personality Dr. Phil McGraw.

McGraw (a.k.a. Dr. Phil) was at the hospital at the behest of the singer's family members, a rep for his television show confirmed to MTV News. The therapist visited with Spears for about an hour in her hospital room, with family members present, before accompanying her as she left the premises. Spears had already arranged her release from Cedars-Sinai before his arrival, though a spokesperson for the hospital declined to discuss the circumstances, citing patient confidentiality.

"Unfortunately, I can't," said Cedars-Sinai spokesperson Simi Singer, explaining that even a patient's admission or release from the hospital is considered privileged information. "In certain situations, patients don't even get registered under their own names, though I'm not saying that's what happened here."

Dr. Phil released the following statement to ETonline Saturday: "My meeting with Britney and some of her family members this morning in her room at Cedars leaves me convinced more than ever that she is in dire need of both medical and psychological intervention. She was released moments before my arrival and was packing when I entered the room. We visited for about an hour before I walked with her to her car. I am very concerned for her."

Spears had been admitted against her will early Friday morning with a "5150" hold — under which an individual may be held for observation against their will for 72 hours — but doctors evidently believe she no longer presents a danger to herself or others. The admission followed a child-custody dispute Thursday evening, in which she barricaded herself inside a room of her home with one of her children; at the time she was legally obligated to hand off her sons to her ex-husband, Kevin Federline.

Reports have speculated that it was either the court-appointed monitor or Spears' former assistant, Alli Sims, who called the police after trying unsuccessfully to get the singer out of the room, but Sims told Usmagazine.com that she wasn't at the scene. "I absolutely was not there," she said. "And even if I was there, I would not have banged down the door with a hammer. That's not my style. I would have knocked!"

Sims, Spears associate Sam Lufti, and several Spears family members were spotted by photographers and videographers making visits to see the singer at Cedars-Sinai before she was released Saturday morning. When asked how Spears was doing, Lufti told E! News, "She is doing a lot better than Thursday night."

On Friday, while Spears was hospitalized, she temporarily lost visitation rights to see her two young sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James, with Federline temporarily gaining sole legal and physical custody of the children. The matter is to be discussed at a hearing in family court on January 14.

The TV doc who paid a visit to Britney Spears on Saturday morning, just before she was released from the hospital, has just given this exclusive statement to Entertainment Tonight:

“My meeting with Britney and some family members this morning in her room at Cedars leaves me convinced more than ever that she is in dire need of both medical and psychological intervention. She was released moments before my arrival and was packing when I entered the room. We visited for about an hour before I walked with her to her car. I am very concerned for her.”

A father’s nightmare took a turn for the worst. After keeping watch of his daughter at Cedars-Sinai hospital, Britney Spears’s dad Jamie Spears broke into tears shortly after her discharge Saturday morning.

“Jamie was really upset,” a source tells PEOPLE, “He was in tears. When he got to the house and realized the situation there, it broke him down.”

He and his eldest daughter have had a rocky relationship, but with his ex-wife Lynne and youngest daughter Jamie-Lynn traveling back home to Louisiana, he was the sole Spears family member on scene during her mental evaluation. “[Jamie] thought he understood what was going on,” the source adds, but now, “He doesn’t know what to do. Everyone is trying to figure out the best thing to do, but who knows what that is now.”

Spears was able to accept visitors during her stay, and Dr. Phil McGraw – whom Jamie considers “a god,” the source says – advised her father while at the hospital. He told Spears that his daughter’s release was “one of the worst decisions that could have been made.”

Also, X17 caught up with Jamie Spears today and asked him how his daughter is doing and about the events that have transpired over the past 48 hours and today, with Britney leaving the hospital and he had only one comment for us: “Go Tigers!”

After a little more than 24 hours at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, E! News has confirmed that Britney Spears has been released from the hospital, despite previous reports that she was to be held under a minimum three-day lockdown.

Shortly after her admittance via ambulance just after midnight Thursday, the singer was placed on a “5150 hold,” meaning medical workers had determined she posed a danger either to herself or others. As a result, she was to be held for 72 hours, during which time she was to undergo a battery of physical and psychological tests.

However, medical officials have the authority to lift the hold at any time during a patient’s stay, should they be determined to no longer pose a threat. Spears’ early release indicates she was granted the medical and psychological all-clear.

According to The Insider, Spears made her exit from Cedars-Sinai early Saturday morning via an underground tunnel at the facility. The show also reports that none other than Dr. Phil McGraw was on hand to escort the singer off the premises.

Spears is reportedly now back at her Studio City home.

News of her release comes in the wake of confirmation from Spears pal Sam Lutfi that the 26-year-old was doing much better than she had been during the precipitating hours-long custody standoff.

“She is doing a lot better than Thursday night, she’s reached out to her mom and Jamie Lynn and they’ve been in constant contact…they have shown wonderful support,” Lufti told E! News’ Jason Kennedy exclusively Friday night, adding that Spears would not be at the hospital for any longer than the hold required of her.

It’s unclear if any of Spears’ supportive family members were on hand for her release early Saturday.

Father Jamie Spears is the only official family member to be caught by paparazzi entering Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, which he did early Friday morning, along with Lutfi.

While Kevin Federline was also present at the hospital when his 26-year-old ex-wife was first being admitted for a battery of physical and psychological tests, Lutfi made clear that Federline was only there to check on his children, Sean Preston and Jayden James, the latter of whom was also briefly checked out by doctors—as is standard for children in the wake of such a traumatic experience—before given the medical okay.

He was not, as has been reported, there to visit Spears. When asked if the 29-year-old father had seen or spoken to the singer since Thursday night’s incident, Lutfi gave E! News a quite adamant, “No!”

As for what specifically went down Thursday night, Lutfi offered no new specifics on the standoff that culminated in Spears locking herself in a room with one-year-old son Jayden and ended with the “Gimme More” singer being transported via ambulance to Cedars-Sinai.

However, he did say that he believed the media and legal circus that resulted from the evening was mishandled but that he did not begrudge the LAPD for following protocal, saying the officers remained at the Studio City home for so long because they “wanted to make sure they were following proper procedure and abiding by the court documents.”

Still, he said he wished “that the whole situation was handled better.”
I’ve been hearing from a reliable source for almost a year now that some of Britney Spears’ family members believe she has bipolar disorder. They don’t think it’s drugs. They don’t feel she has a drinking problem.

In plain and simple language, they believe the former pop princess has a mental illness.

If, in fact, Ms. Spears has a bipolar illness, isn’t it time for the haters to back off? I’m talking about those who post comments on blogs that go so far as to wish her dead.

Making fun of Spears for a bad song, a poor performance or maybe even a not-so-in-shape body, I can handle. But the venom that’s been spewed in the last 24 hours alone is unreal.

Why so much hate? My armchair theory is, it’s jealousy. No one is jealous of her downfall, but surely they may be envious of all she’s achieved in her very young life. She wasn’t even an adult when she became one of the world’s biggest pop sensations. And she got very, very rich along the way.

Fast-forward to today. Spears is in a hospital, locked down for her own good. No one knows for sure what exactly went down last night at her house, but I don’t care how famous you are, being strapped into a gurney and thrown into an ambulance as paparazzi and news helicopters hover overheard to catch every minute detail cannot be fun in any way.

While her particular situation may be unique, Spears is not exactly alone. According to the National Institutes of Mental Health, bipolar disorder affects 5.7 million American adults. The median age of onset for the illness is 25. Spears just turned 26 Dec. 1.

“The symptoms of bipolar disorder are basically extreme highs and lows,” says Los Angeles-based psychotherapist Stacy Kaiser. “It’s a very undertreated disorder. Most people end up medicating themselves with drugs or alcohol.”

I was talking to a friend earlier who said of Spears’ messy life, “She asked for it.” Would you say the same thing about someone with cancer?

No one in their right mind asks to have bipolar disorder. No one in their right mind asks for their children to be taken away from them. No one in their right mind asks to be called trash by overzealous bloggers.

I am not saying Spears’ behavior should be condoned or supported. Of course not. Not only has she apparently put her own life at risk, she’s appeared to have endangered her children’s safety and well-being.

But with the right medical care and supervision, there’s no reason Spears can’t get back on her own two feet. Up to 80 percent of those treated generally show an improvement in their symptoms within four to six weeks of beginning medication, psychotherapy, and/or attending support groups, according to NIMH.

She could be a mom to those kids. She can be a wife again someday. And yes, I really do believe she can fill stadiums and concert halls like she once did not so long ago.

“There are a lot of people with bipolar disorder that function in the world like normal people,” Kaiser says.

Still, as the hours have gone by today, I’ve noticed a shift. Comments posted on blogs seem to be more sympathetic. People, I hope, are slowly coming to realize she isn’t just a spoiled brat dancing on table tops. Spears is a sick woman who needs help.

My heart goes out to her. It really does.

Remember, she’s just like us.
Dr. Phil Speaks Out About Hospital Visit With Britney

Posted On 05 Jan 2008 by Ali 0 Comments

After spending an hour with Britney Spears this morning, Dr. Phil has made his diagnosis.

"My meeting with Britney and some family members this morning in her room at Cedars leaves me convinced more than ever that she is in dire need of both medical and psychological intervention," he said in a statement to Entertainment Tonight and The Insider.

"She was released moments before my arrival and was packing when I entered the room," the doctor adds. "We visited for about an hour before I walked with her to her car. I am very concerned for her."

After going on a short drive earlier today, Spears is back at her Beverly Hills home.

Dr. Phil will share more details from his chat with the "Gimme More" singer on his daytime show next week.

Back home, Britney Spears spent the early part of Saturday with dad Jamie after being released from Cedars-Sinai hospital.

Spears's mom Lynne, who yesterday called for prayers for the embattled singer, remains in their hometown of Kentwood, La.

Spears left the Los Angeles medical facility Saturday via an underground tunnel and was accompanied by TV therapist Dr. Phil, according to etonline.com, who first reported the news.

A Cedars-Sinai spokesperson declined to comment, but Dr. Phil released a statement to ET saying: "My meeting with Britney and some family members this morning in her room at Cedars leaves me convinced more than ever that she is in dire need of both medical and psychological intervention.

"She was released moments before my arrival and was packing when I entered the room. We visited for about an hour before I walked with her to her car."

Spears had been committed early Friday morning under California's "5150 Hold," in which Spears was deemed a danger to herself and could be held for 72 hours. Patients however can be released early if doctors determine they are no longer a threat to themselves.

"The 5150 legality is very loose," says Dr. Nathan Kuemmerle, a West Hollywood psychiatrist. "The 72 hours are not firm. All it requires is an ER psychiatrist to release the patient. ... If Britney isn't suicidal or homicidal, she doesn't need to be hospitalized." Former Spears manager Larry Rudolph, in an interview promoting his E! reality show "Sunset Tan," told FOX News that the pop diva he helped discover will once again be on top of the music scene.

"She's probably the most dynamic and exciting performer that's hit the music scene since Madonna in the mid-'80s, Rudolph said.

Like Madonna, Spears has had her share of controversy, especially in 2007 when she shaved her head, became part of the so-called "bimbo summit" including herself, Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan and lost primary custody of her children, at least temporarily, to ex-husband Kevin Federline.

Thursday night, she was admitted to Cedars-Sinai for what one source close to Spears is calling a "complete psychotic meltdown."

Rudolph most recently worked with Spears last summer on her latest CD, "Blackout," which kicked off to an inauspicious start with Spears' wobbly performance at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards, but then quickly rose to the top of the Billboard charts, surprising industry insiders.

"I was working with her when she was recording and eager to hear rest of it and was really happy it's doing well," he said.

"The reality is she's here for a long time," says Rudolph, who also worked with Spears' one-time boyfriend Justin Timberlake. "Right now you're seeing what you're seeing, but I know this girl has an enormous talent and she's smart and she'll get it right and get right back on track and she'll do amazingly well," he said.

Right now it's hard to see the forest through the trees, however.

Spears faces up to a year of probation if convicted in a misdemeanor case of driving without a valid license, has been ordered by the court to have her children's visits supervised and has to adhere to court-appointed drug testing.

But Rudolph thinks all of this will pass.

"I think that Britney Spears is going to be a force to be reckoned with again and she's going to be out there in a big, big way, playing arenas and stadiums in the near future."

America does love a good comeback, and although 2008 has started on a down note for Spears, here's hoping Rudolph is right, not only for her career, but also for her children.

Friday following her 72-hour lockdown for a mental evaluation.

Kevin Federline is "awarded sole legal custody and sole physical custody of the minor children," court Commissioner Scott Gordon said in a written ruling after an emergency hearing.

Gordon said Spears's "visitation with the minor children is suspended pending further order of the court."

The order is in effect until Jan. 14.

After the 40-minute hearing, Federline's attorney Mark Vincent Kaplan said: "There are no winners here."

He said he was "not happy about any of the events that have happened."

Police responded to Spears's house on Thursday night after she refused to turn over the boys to Federline's bodyguard after a visitation day. Kaplan arrived at the house "to bring a document ... that identified the existing court order" about custody, he earlier told the Associated Press.

"I was up at the guard gate where (she) lives," he told AP. "I did not go in" to the home.

On Friday, Kaplan and Spears's attorney met privately with the judge in his chambers, then returned in the afternoon for a closed hearing.

Spears, meanwhile, is not facing any criminal charges – for now.

"The LAPD is not planning to file any charges against Ms. Spears at this time," Officer April Harding tells PEOPLE. "The investigation is ongoing."

Britney Spears' cousin and former assistant Alli Sims was not involved with rescuing the singer during her breakdown last night.

PageSix.com reported Sims used "brute force to pry the singer out of the bathroom where she had barricaded herself with son Jayden James late last night."

But Sims tells Usmagazine.com: "I absolutely was not there. And even if I was there I would not have banged down the door with a hammer, that's not my style. I would have knocked!"

Attorneys for Britney Spears and Kevin Federline met in an emergency closed-door session Friday following the pop singer's 72-hour lockdown for a mental evaluation. Federline's lawyer, Mark Vincent Kaplan, wants the judge to suspend the pop singer's visitation rights in the ex-couple's custody dispute.

After the 40-minute hearing, Kaplan declined to comment on what was decided, but said: "There are no winners here." He said he was "not happy about any of the events that have happened."

The court is expected to make the judge's decision public by the end of the day on Monday. Kaplan and Spears' attorney met privately with the judge in his chambers, then returned in the afternoon for a closed hearing.

Confirmed: Britney Has Been Released From Hospital

January 5th, 2008 by Danny

Britney Released From Hospital?

January 5th, 2008 by Danny
After being rushed to the hospital Thursday night and spending two nights there, Britney Spears has left the building. Both Entertainment Tonight and The Insider are confirming that the mother of two left Saturday morning via an underground tunnel. A source told the television shows that there was no reason to keep her hospitalized any longer though at first it was reported she will stay for 72 hours.

But before she was released, Britney had an unexpected visitor. Dr. Phil was seen visiting the out of control singer.

Rumour: Britney Throws A Fit At Hospital

January 5th, 2008 by Danny
We are hearing from multiple sources that Britney Spears is throwing a fit on the 7th floor of Cedars Sinai. She is demanding to leave, screaming at the staff, will not lay or sit still, we’re told.

From all indications she is being held on a 5150, which means she is a danger to herself and others. Typically people in that situation can be held for 72 hours against their will.

UPDATE- We have also been told she has pulled her IV out and is generally out of control.

If this is true, I’m really glad. At least she’s not “acting normal” to g et out within 72 hours. Hopefully this leads them to keeping her for longer, and her realising she has a problem.

What Exactly Is Britney Going Through At Hospital?

January 5th, 2008 by Danny
Isolation, psychological evaluations and unfamiliar surroundings: that’s what life is like for Britney Spears while she continues her 72-hour mental lockdown at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in L.A.

Here’s what experts tell PEOPLE about Spears’s lockdown conditions – and what may happen to her and her children following her Thursday night meltdown.

How is she being treated in the hospital?
Committed under California’s “5150 Hold” – in which Spears was deemed a danger to herself and/or others – she is not permitted to leave Cedars-Sinai “under any circumstances” for at least 72 hours, says Dr. Stacy Kaiser, an L.A.-based psychotherapist.
“She will be isolated, and all her behavior will be monitored,” says Kaiser. “They’ll make sure she doesn’t have any drugs on her. They will closely watch everything she puts in her mouth. If they’re giving her medication, they will make sure she takes it.” It is unlikely she is being restrained, “but if she is being difficult and argumentative, they could sedate her and strap her down,” says Kaiser, noting that the 5150 is so extreme because it strips a patient of nearly all autonomy.

“Britney has lost the opportunity to make decisions for herself,” she says. “The law is in charge of her. It’s very rare.”

What happens when her 72 hours are up?
“If they find you are still at risk to yourself or others, they can keep you longer,” says Kaiser.

Defense attorney Jim Epstein of Los Angeles adds that if the patient has attempted or threatened physical harm to themselves or others during the confinement period, he or she can be held for additional treatment, up to 180 days.

Still, most “will play ball enough to get out of the hospital,” says Dr. Diana Kirschner, a New York City psychologist.

How does her hospitalization affect her custody rights?
Already stripped of all custody and visitation until at least Jan. 14, she is unlikely to lose visitation rights permanently because “it’s not usually considered in the best interests of the children,” says Lynn Soodik, a certified family law specialist and practicing family law attorney in Los Angeles.

Still, her visitation could be severely curtailed. “She’s getting to the point of: Who’s going to allow her to be alone with her children?” says Soodik. “The factors weighing most heavily against her are the (Thursday) confrontation in front of her children and possible use of an illegal substance.”

How are Sean, 2, and Jayden, 1, holding up?
“A 1-year-old child is very attached to his parents,” says Kaiser. “If his mother is panicked, he is panicked. (Sean) can probably articulate a little bit more and understand a little bit more, so he’s probably more afraid. This is a giant drop in the pool, and all the ripples will follow.”

What can Kevin do to minimize the effects of the situation?
“He needs to be stable and he needs to keep other people as constants in their life,” says Kaiser. “Those kids need as much stability in their lives as they can get right now in order to minimize the effects of what their mom is doing.”

Britney Loses Visitation Rights

January 5th, 2008 by Danny
Britney Spears lost her child-visitation rights Friday following her 72-hour lockdown for a mental evaluation.

Kevin Federline is “awarded sole legal custody and sole physical custody of the minor children,” court Commissioner Scott Gordon said in a written ruling after an emergency hearing.

Gordon said Spears’s “visitation with the minor children is suspended pending further order of the court.”

The order is in effect until Jan. 14.

After the 40-minute hearing, Federline’s attorney Mark Vincent Kaplan said: “There are no winners here.”

He said he was “not happy about any of the events that have happened.”

Police responded to Spears’s house on Thursday night after she refused to turn over the boys to Federline’s bodyguard after a visitation day. Kaplan arrived at the house “to bring a document … that identified the existing court order” about custody, he earlier told the Associated Press.

“I was up at the guard gate where (she) lives,” he told AP. “I did not go in” to the home.

On Friday, Kaplan and Spears’s attorney met privately with the judge in his chambers, then returned in the afternoon for a closed hearing.

Spears, meanwhile, is not facing any criminal charges – for now.

“The LAPD is not planning to file any charges against Ms. Spears at this time,” Officer April Harding tells PEOPLE. “The investigation is ongoing.”

Officials Confirm That Britney Wasn’t Under The Influence

January 5th, 2008 by Danny
Although police initially suspected Britney Spears was “under the influence of an unknown substance” during a nearly three-hour standoff with police Thursday night, authorities have since determined Spears was clean and sober.

According to Los Angeles police Officer Ana Aguirre, there was no evidence the pop star had been drinking or doing drugs during the Jan. 3 incident.

“Our understanding is that was not the case,” she said.

“There was a time where she was within the residence and wasn’t available to be speaking to the officers, apparently,” added Aguirre. “There was no threat to the children.”

Aguirre confirmed both Spears’ children were turned over to her ex-husband Kevin Federline and the pop star was taken to the hospital.

“We’re not aware of any type of injuries that she sustained” and she was not combative with authorities, Aguirre said.

Spears is currently at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where she is reportedly on a 72-hour lockdown for mental evaluation.

The troubled singer’s father, Jamie, reportedly has been at the hospital, by his daughter’s side.

Larry Rudolph Thinks Britney Can Still Bounce Back

January 5th, 2008 by Danny
Although Britney Spears is laid up in the “5150″ ward at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, at least one person believes the former pop diva can still make a comeback.

Former Spears manager Larry Rudolph, in an interview promoting his E! reality show “Sunset Tan,” told FOX News that the pop diva he helped discover will once again be on top of the music scene.

“She’s probably the most dynamic and exciting performer that’s hit the music scene since Madonna in the mid-’80s, Rudolph said.

Like Madonna, Spears has had her share of controversy, especially in 2007 when she shaved her head, became part of the so-called “bimbo summit” including herself, Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan and lost primary custody of her children, at least temporarily, to ex-husband Kevin Federline.

Thursday night, she was admitted to Cedars-Sinai for what one source close to Spears is calling a “complete psychotic meltdown.”

Rudolph most recently worked with Spears last summer on her latest CD, “Blackout,” which kicked off to an inauspicious start with Spears’ wobbly performance at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards, but then quickly rose to the top of the Billboard charts, surprising industry insiders.

“I was working with her when she was recording and eager to hear rest of it and was really happy it’s doing well,” he said.

“The reality is she’s here for a long time,” says Rudolph, who also worked with Spears’ one-time boyfriend Justin Timberlake. “Right now you’re seeing what you’re seeing, but I know this girl has an enormous talent and she’s smart and she’ll get it right and get right back on track and she’ll do amazingly well,” he said.

Right now it’s hard to see the forest through the trees, however.

Spears faces up to a year of probation if convicted in a misdemeanor case of driving without a valid license, has been ordered by the court to have her children’s visits supervised and has to adhere to court-appointed drug testing.

But Rudolph thinks all of this will pass.

“I think that Britney Spears is going to be a force to be reckoned with again and she’s going to be out there in a big, big way, playing arenas and stadiums in the near future.”

America does love a good comeback, and although 2008 has started on a down note for Spears, here’s hoping Rudolph is right, not only for her career, but also for her children.
